Running Backs

Chad Johnson

Recommended Posts

That would be one of the worst signings possible. Why would we spend all that money on RB when we have no need at the position? Our defense needs players, we ALREADY HAVE CHRIS PERRY. I dont think you guys realize this. Perry will be the starter next year, and he will make us forget all about rudi johnson.

I have a question.

Have we been talking to either Shawn Alexander or Edge? I mean both are top teir running back free agents and wouldn't it be nice to be talking to them already to possibly get a foot in the door if the bengals decide to not ante up with Rudi.

Coach Lewis was asked ( almost ) that same thing exactly. His response was " Shaun Alexander would unbalance our salary cap". Now this is just a guess keep in mind, but I'd take that to mean that we are not going to pursue him in free agency. I'd have to agree that a running back is not one of our needs to be addressed through free agency.

Everybody's all het up about the Rudi situation, and I'd have to agree with someone else ( can't remember who ) who said that this is negotiations .. that's all. As of now, there is no Rudi situation. Now .... it could become a situation, but I'll have to see it to believe it.

Everyone is also hyping Alexander while at the same time knocking Rudi about receiving skills. Alexanders got it and Rudi doesn't. Well ... maybe .... maybe not, but as big a Palmer fan as I am, I'd have to say that this point in Palmers career that Rudis skills as a receiver are not an issue. A big part of Palmers learning curve was checking off to his 2nd and 3rd options ( imo of course ). He just wasn't doing it very well. Now that got pretty much corrected by the end of the season, but at the outset ... it wouldn't have mattered if Rudi was a receiving machine, because Palmer wasn't going to throw it to him anyway. He was too busy staring at CJ to notice anything else.

Next season that will maybe be an issue, but supposedly that is one of ... what's that kids name again ??? You know who I mean .. anyway its supposed to be one of his strong points. We'll see I guess, but I'd feel a lot better with the Bengals single season record holder for rushing and carries in there with him. If .... big IF Perry is as advertised, it would give us the best running combo we've had since James Brooks and Ickey. Pair that up with the best receiving corps ... possibly ever, and that's a pretty good offense.

Anyway, .......... we need to go shopping in FA, but for defense not offense .... unless there's a stud center or DE out there somewhere. BA) But that's just me.

Our defense needs players

For the second consecutive year, I might add. :(

we ALREADY HAVE CHRIS PERRY. I dont think you guys realize this.

I certainly do, but I'm trying remain optimistic that he'll show up in training camp with the one thing that he didn't have all of last season. His health. <_<

Perry will be the starter next year, and he will make us forget all about rudi johnson.

Hey Pushy, while you're looking into that crystal ball you must have there in front of you, would you please e-mail me the winning powerball numbers for the next drawing? Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,

Billy "SoonToBeInsanelyRich" Broome

You're all forgetting that we also have Quincy Wilson out of WVU that could as well be starting next season for us...

All I remember is that we signed him. Wasn't it to the practice squad ??? Or was that Broussard ???

Got any info on him ?

By the way .... drive passed Morgantown frequently. Those people are a sight to behold on gameday. Every dam car ... van ... etc. you see has the flag and or the neon lights in the back windows. Obviously passionate fans.

WHAT? How many downs did Perry play last year? How can so say he will make us forget about Rudi when hasn't proven a damn thing yet? It's nice to see how everyone is already given up on Rudi.

I'm relieved you posted this Ackley. Reasonable thought gets lonely without company. B)

Hopefully Perry proves that he was worth being drafted #1. As of the moment, we are still standing by...as patiently as possible.

What he said.

We've got Perry, and I hope he pans out ( like all our picks ) ... but I'm a long way away from giving up on Rudi.

Well, I know we're still far from an agreement but I remain optimstic that we're gonna get this done. I'm sorry but I don't think Perry is going to fill Rudi's shoes. Being that I'm a Michigan fan I've always like Perry but I just don't know if he's going to be a great back in the NFL.

I'm willing to give him a couple years to prove this, but goddam it! You have to be able to stay somewhat healthy to prove anything in the NFL, and thus far that's been his biggest obstacle!

Running back is probably the most physically punishing position in football!, bar none. You have to be somewhat durable to even last a couple years. I think the average length of a RB's career in the NFL is 3 or 4 years. (Please, if I'm wrong here anyone...feel free to correct me.) That alone is proof enough for me of how tough a guy has to be to exist in this game! Look at Emitt Smith! Holy S**t! This is a poster boy for durability!

I'm a big Rudi Supporter, And I want him to be our rb for the future, but I'm not stupid either ! We cannot break the bank for him this year for so many reasons it's ridiculous.

1. There is comparable talent in Free Agency. = especially if we have to pay the same amount $6.Million/year to keep him.

2. This is about as deep a runningback class as they come for the upcoming draft. There are at least 4 with 2 others that have 1st round grades.

3. A sign and trade deal is a possibility as well. - 2 draft picks for Rudi should mean a long term replacement via the draft at a much cheaper price !

:( I dunno...dealing with unknowns is not my most favorite thing to do in this world. I always love to be pleasantly surprised though!

Quincy Wilson will make everyone forget about Chris Perry. I mean, those of us who aren't working hard to forget about him at this exact moment and have been working at it since draft day.

Sorry, that pick still infuriates me.

Why would that pick make you mad? How far can an offense go with an average RB? Lewis wanted to upgrade the position, and did.

Do you just hate Rudi Johnson, or do you just have extraordinarily bad taste and a total lack of common sense? Or do you just say the things you say to get a rise out of the rest of us?

Maybe you would be happier as a Bills fan.

I'm sure Marvin Lewis saw something in Perry or else he wouldn't have wasted a first round pick on him. And I'm positive Perry knows that people are second guessing him. I'm sure once he recovers form surgery he will bust his ass to prove his worth and maybe even come back from the injury better off than if he would have just had a normal rookie season.

I mean I've got to admit that sometimes pushy makes me laugh. Why are you even on this board, but to p*ss people off? It's really funny if you think about it. I think that maybe dontpushme and tubthumper may be the reincarnation of Barbarian, with a little more tact.

Not that this really means anything but I saw Quincy play when he was in high school at Weir. It was unreal, he averaged somewhere along the lines of 10 yds per carry. Of course I followed him with WVU too and I think could potentially be a very solid back for us.

This whole Perry/Rudi debate is deja vu all over again. Wasnt it just last yr that the message boards were debating the merits of knowing what we had in Kitna vs an "unproven" Palmer? I'll trust the coach...again.

true dat.
