No CB or QB in 2005 draft

It's just a guess but I think any attempts to improve the DL in free agency will prove too expensive to consider. Thus, any impact players added to the mix will likely have to come by way of the draft, where I'd be just as happy to land a playmaking and run stuffing 290lb LDE prospect as a DT.

If the Bengals are really committed to improving their defense I think they'll find plently of help in the draft. What bothers me is the nagging thought that this team is currently more interested in building a perfect offensive beast and assumes that Marvin can improve the defense without using it's highest draft picks.

I agree, which is why I think Marvin may try to deal the No. 17 for a vet DT (and, depending on circumstances, more picks).

I'm actually OK with our current DT situation. And I think we have a stud-in-the-making in Robert Geathers, who outperformed most of the DEs taken before him.

I don't think that it's an issue of the perfect offensive beast so much as still dealing with the fallout of the pre-Marvin years. Taking a QB with the No. 1 overall two years ago was a foregone conclusion. And Corey's refusal to quit acting like a d*ck, combined with Rudi's RFA status, pretty much dictated we had to address RB early last year. And this year, the combination of uncertainty about Rudi, uncertainty about Perry, and uncertainty about Warrick could lead us back down the o-path (not to mention hamstring us in FA) especially if TJ isn't resigned.

So does this contradict Coach Lewis' philosophy of drafting the BPA?

YES!

It's a flawed philosophy anyway.

:lol::rolleyes:

I guess, as opposed to reaching for players to fill a position or need.

Yknow what?

Let's NOT go down this road again.

I concur. The bengals should just take whoever chrishcovga thinks and that's final!

Now if I could only get the Browns and Marvin to think the same way, then we're set !!

Why do I have a feeling that come the end of day 1 this April there are going to be a lot of posts like last year's: "How could they pass up [insert player's name] still on the board and then draft [insert position here]? And why did they pick [insert pick here] instead of [perceived better player at that position here]??? Mike effing Brown is still running this team! We suck!"

Except for the "We suck!" part, I'm ready! I still feel that Cincy passed on people they shouldn't have in the last draft. Yes the run defense did improve slightly, but not enough for me!

It may be smart on my part to just ignore this upcoming draft. I think it's going to chap my hide worse than last years, and that is saying something! :P

I'm thinking a foriegn vacation would be good around then. Any suggestions guys?

You and I BOTH know you're not gonna miss the draft.

That's nonsense.

You may watch it with your eyes closed, but you're not gonna miss it.
