Kirkendall
I keep hearing how Bengals fans know nothing about football, yada yada yada. But I don't see how any Bills have credibility when they keep slamming us for not knowing about football when McGaheeRocks says:Yeah... i keep hearing about these great defenses...Washington and Denver who both suck!!The Bengals have played 5 top-ten defense. Record against those teams? 3-2. Jets #2 Defense - Lost by a touchdown.Ravens #4 Defense - Won by 1 point.Patriots #5 Defense - Lost by a touchdown.Redskins #6 Defense - Won by a touchdown.Broncos #8 Defense - Won by 13. Both Patriots and Jets came within a touchdown, and could have tied or won the game if it wasn't for stupid mistakes. You'll understand what a good defense is after this weekend. How can you say that when YOUR defense is worse than the one's listed above? This is why you guys keep getting slammed about not knowing anything about football...The only defense you listed ranked higher than our defense is Washington.... and beating Washington is no big feat.... everyone is beating Washington...they are one of the worst teams in the league.....Guess what... New England isn't even a top 10 defense...and Denver sucks too...trust me... you guys will get a wake up call this weekend...

McGaheeRocks
keep telling yourselves that... whatever makes you guys feel better.. don't be surprised if your team struggles sunday.... i warned you.
Kirkendall
Ahhh, it's yards you're talking about. I'm talking about points against defense -- that is a more important stat. Yards against is an empty, pointless and over-rated stat. Kinda sad when you're learning football from a bunch of guys that don't know football.trust me... you guys will get a wake up call this weekend...Wanna make a wager? bengalady
Hey, this thread is about Marvin, right?
ShulaSteakhouse
He'll do whats right and we won't question him....He's done a good job, but the Bengals' aren't there yet. I am not ready to consider Marvin some sort of legendary coaching genius.Gotta finish over .500 some time soon for one, and it would be nice to see the lack of discipline each week improve, but it's not yet (penalties, crucial turnovers and more penalties). Those things more than anything else are costing them close games. As the Patriots and Steelers are proving, not making stupid mistakes and playing good defense go a long way.I also think Marvin has some weakenesses on his coaching staff that he was kind of forced to settle for and will have a hard time getting rid of (Alexander is one). HoosierCat
He's done a good job, but the Bengals' aren't there yet. I am not ready to consider Marvin some sort of legendary coaching genius. I'd say that no matter how well he had done, less than two seasons isn't enough to qualify anyone for "legendary coaching genius" status. However, right now he's arguably done a better job over his first two years than any other coach in Bengals history. Going into today's game Marvin's Bengals are 14-15. Only one Bengals coach, Bill Johnson, had a winning record after two years (18-10). The next-best is Sam Wyche's 15-17 (after that, it's Coslet at 10-22). And both Johnson and Wyche took over solid teams. The Bengals were 28-14 in the three years before Johnson, and 26-15 in the three years prior to Wyche's start. By contrast, the Bengals were a horrid 12-36 in the three seasons before Lewis.I think we're headed in the right direction.
