skyline
It's good to see Marvin getting angry about this one. I think he's typically great at being a players coach, but this is definitely a time where getting a bit more angry with them seems to be what's needed. 97 yards in penalties is definitely worth getting angry about. BengalszoneBilly
97 yards in penalties is definitely worth getting angry about. About 60 to 70 yards too many for me! The penalties were devastating in the way they just stopped drives that could have kept the momentum in the Bengals favor! Inexcusable! Kirkendall
I'm still confused on the kick-off return why a personal foul on the Steelers is negated from a holding call on the Bengals on Russell's very impressive run back. IMO, personal fouls should take presidence and only an opposing personal foul should cancel any personal foul out. (how many times have you ever read a sentence w/ 3 personal foul phrases mentioned)Perhaps the league should look at this. I'll mention it to Paul next time he comes into town. HoosierCat
I don't believe it was negated, was it? Normally a hold on a return is marched off from the spot of the foul, right? But the Bengals got the ball at the spot of the foul, IIRC, due to the Steeler penalty. So I think without it the Bengals would have been 15 yards deeper. I think the one that p*ssed me off the most was Myles' taunting penalty. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Things like holding and illegal blocks are bad enough, but I really hate these kinds of completely avoidable mental errors like taunting, illegal procedure, delay of game, unsportsmanlike conduct, that sort of stuff. WhoDey42
It's so good to see Marvin pissed off at the team. He means buisness now and hopefully that will carry over to the offseason and next season. All the players like and respect him and its good to see him not let them get away with this kind of play. He's going to do everything to win now. It's also good to hear players say that they let Marvin down. That really shows that they respect him and they don't want to disappoint him. Kirkendall
Yeap. He earned the respect early, now he can use his insanely pissed off coach card now and actually have it motivate players. The same doesn't work for Parcells anymore, perhaps respect an issue? Stay tuned to Rather's special 60-minute special.
Bengal_Smoov
It good to hear Marvin tear them a new exit hole after that pitful performance yesterday. Penalities have been hurting us all season, and yesterday they kept us from winning the game. Palmer f*cked up royally, but he can still play the "I'm a rookie" card, but not for long, that int was the worse of all his int's this year. How can we expect to beat a good team if we give over 90 yards in penalities? Btw, is John Thornton scared to make a play or what? That guy has done nothing all season except create a website. The defense has become the strength of the team now, I hope they can keep it up for the rest of the season.
jjakq27
It's time to take the training wheels off. I am glad Lewis got pissed and showed some true emotion instead of the canned-politically correct coach speak that we always get. Maybe that will get the guys fired up and they can roll Cleveland for once.
HoosierCat
Interesting couple of graphs on the holding penalties buried in the bengals.com story today...the Bengals are quite pleased with how they blocked overall and are privately livid about the three holding calls in the last 17 minutes. Wide receiver Chad Johnson got called twice (“Great blocks. There’s no way we can tell Chad not to block like that,” said one player) and the other had no violator named, but the offense had no idea Monday who it was after watching the tape. “His hands were inside on the first defender, and he runs over the second,” said Lewis of Chad’s blocks. “I got the best view of the penalty on the big screen. I honestly don’t have an answer. Calls like that come with the territory.Screwed by the officials again? Anyone who watched the game think the calls were legit? I certainly don't think we were "screwed" by the officials, but they certainly didn't help any either.I didn't get to watch the game either, but I would guess Marvin's comments are pretty reliable since he got to watch the tape over and over again. Sounds like Chad got some unfair heat for those penalties.
KYBENGALFAN
My wife, football_fan_widow (lol), almost had to be restrained from jumping out of her PBS seat when those officials repeated flagged the Bengals in the second half. What was ironic about most of the penalties were they came on offense. Heck, the offense had no excuse to be tired on Sunday. The Bengals defense was on the field for two-thirds of that game and they did a heck of a job holding the Steelers in check. So, yeah, the penalities (holding, illegal motion, etc.) upset me too, since the offense was the reason the Bengals didn't beat the Steelers. Too conservative on the play calling. the three-and-outs on offense, are inexcusable for this point in the season. Marvin needs to find a new offensive coordinator as well as a few offensive linemen and another deep threat to go along with Chad.Other than that, I was thoroughly entertained by Sunday's game. I am a Bengals season ticket holder and driving almost 600 miles roundtrip from southwestern Kentucky was well worth the trip, even though the Bengals lost. I'm not one for moral victories, but we made the Steelers fight for this W. :player:
kybengalsfan
I don't drive quite as far as you (I drive from Richmond) but I agree with your statement that the game was hard fought. I hate to hear people whine about penalties, and when coaching I have forbid my players to use them for excuses, but it appeared that the officials were Steeler's fans by the questionable calls, at critical times, against our guys. It was disheartening, to say the least.
Bobcat Bengal
Maybe that will get the guys fired up and they can roll Cleveland for once. or Maybe we might 'steam' them.
