Ohio University Head Coach Position

This has nothing todo with the Bengals... but I'm an Ohio Bobcats fan (can't help it, live in Athens  ). The season just ended for us with a record of 4-7. The records for the Brian Knorr in his 3 other seasons here are 1-10, 4-8, 2-10. He is something like 0-26 against teams with winning records. Last year we lost to Buffalo and ended their nation long losing streak. This year we beat UCF (who has the nations longest losing streak) by one point in overtime, thanks to their kicker missing the extra point. There is one more year left on his contract, but I cannot find a reason why we would keep this coach. There is no word yet on any announcement of an extension or firing.

Assuming he is fired... anyone know of any successful I-AA coaches or any BCS coordinators that would possibly come and fix this mess? I believe that the Gerogia Southern head coach, Mike Sewak is a possiblity. Anyone else have any possiblities?

Terry Tate...I just read that you went to OU, what do you think of the situation?

Hell, I can't help it either, I'm an OU alum!

As far as the Bobcats go, as long as the marching band is good you're cool. That was the only reason anyone went to the games anyway. I can remember 1 year -- this would have been 84-88 sometime, I dunno, there was lots of beer and "stuff" involved -- they were winless coming into the last game -- and won! Everyone was p*ssed because the screwed up a perfect record, damnit!

They need a coach? Shoot, I'm sure Dave Schula is sick of waiting tables .

Yeah, its pretty funny to see. Right at the end of halftime after the band is done, you see about 1/3 of the crowd stand up at the same time and head for the exits. I just wish the Bengals would invite the Marching 110 back to play in PBS again sometime.

I'm gonna be breakin out the "ATHENS: A DRINKING TOWN WITH A FOOTBALL PROBLEM" shirt again.

1. I want that t-shirt!

2. Re the 110, I'll never forget watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade a few years back and hearing the announcers say "The Ohio University Marching 110" and watching them do Zappa's "Dancing Fool" in front of a national TV audience!

The 110 is the best. Anyone that you tell about the 110, they don't think that any marching band can be as exciting as you tell them the 110 is. But really, everyone should witness the 110 in person. I about fall asleep when I see any other marching band. But the whole crowd stands up and cheers on the band more than the team. The 110 played at the Giants opening day this season... why can't the Bengals invite them back every year?

I was at the OU-Kentucky game this season @ Kentucky and the UK band played first then the 110 came out and it was like night and day. The whole stadium gave the 110 a standing ovation. It was funny also, after the UK game, the fans on the message board were calling for the football coaches job and the band directors job.

But this is far off topic

I always wondered why OU couldn't seem to attract quality players to our school, I mean, look at Miami, there are a lot of similarities there. (college town, etc.) I think its our recruiting honestly, that and our stadium and budget aren't as large as they should be. It's almost as if the school is content with the sucess the team has, like, Oh well, we're a drinking town, who cares about the football team anyway?

But

The disparities between quality MAC teams and s**tty ones are huge. Toledo, NIU, Marshall, Miami, and even BGSU, these are teams that can suprise a team on a given night. They helped to dispell the image of the MAC being a inferior conference (although there is good reason for that as well)

I heard at least they got rid of that god awful triple option offense they're running, so thats a start. Maybe someday we can get a passing game going, 100-150 yards too much to ask?

My last football game at Peden was a homecoming against UCF. GOod time as usual, but the one thing i remember is two UCF players going at each other....that was funny, their whole team was imploding on the sideline.

I ageree, theres no reason why we shouldn't be competing with the other top MAC school to get top recurits. I don't think we can use facilities an exuse though. Peden isn't the biggest stadium you'll find, but you have to agree it's one of the nicest stadiums you'll see. I've been to every MAC football stadium except for Ball State and Peden is much nicer than most of them.

Yes, it was so nice not to see the damn option ran every play. We're on our way to having a pretty balanced offense. We have one of the best recievers in the MAC and our redshirt freshman QB for next year is supposed to be the real deal. So, first thing we need is a decent coach.

I don't really see anyone rectifying the program though, it doesn't matter who they bring in personally.

Why would no one be able to make something out of this program? We have good players, we have the facilities...all we need is a coach that knows an ounce about football and has respect from the team. Our conference schedule for next season is very easy...we should be contending for a MAC championship.

John Cooper is a name I've heard thrown around as a possible replacement. I've heard that he recently said he would like to come to OU. If he is willing to come I believe he should be on the top of the list of possible coaches. He has a lot of connects, he's a great recruiter, a great motivator, and he would most likely get people in the stands.

Yeah, that sounds good....coming from OSU to OU would be a huge step down though, but having his name attached to this football program would be a huge boost.

But he was fired from OSU and the only job he has now is TV analyist for the Big Ten. So he wouldn't really be stepping down to come here. I don't think he's plannin on gettin a job at any other bigger school.

LOL cmon, you guys know OU is a drinking/party school.

I go to OU and could give a rats ass about our football team, it's sad we lose and we lose often, but no way this thing can be fixed in 2 years.

Just go to our club hockey games we were national champions in that.

OU aint that big of a drinking party school.

More head State is the biggest.

But, when OU played UK I went to the game. They played good. Considering they were beating one of the worst ranked college teams.

SURE, you just keep telling yourself that. It is definitely big enough to get you and whoever-you-bring-with-you obliberated. Not so big that you have to wait half and hour to get a beer from the keg. I guess your right. <_<

And turningpoint, the fact that we're a party school doesn't mean we can't have a good football team. That's like saying an academic school can't play competitive sports. But hey, if you don't mind putting up your money for a below average athletics program, fine by me.

Last time I checked, Miami was ranked ahead of OU in the Playboy party school rankings. And we know how their football team does. At least their getting something for forking over all that cash, but then again, they're all basically rich trust fund babies anyway.

I seen this thing on Sci Fi channel that said OU was haunted. At morehead, you can find a party any night of the week, get drunk as hell, see all amatuer porn star filmers there. Before the year I came there, playboy done a morehead shoot.

You never hear of the MSU football team, or any other sports team.

I don't understand. Why are we talking about a football team that could possibly be ranked on ESPN's Bottom 10 so passionately???

Sure, it's a great party school--and Halloween is legendary down at Athens, however, the football has never been any good. I thought this was a given for the poor BobCats?????

I remember one Halloween I went down there--I have one major complaint about OU--YOU BETTER KNOW SOMEONE that goes to school there--the school is small-townish--so it's kinda clickish. If you don't know someone, then forget partying there!!!

I'm just glad that the people I went with KNEW PEOPLE that went to school there. The party they threw was excellent.

;)
