HoosierCat
We need to stop babying these f**king athletes. This outburst is another example of CJ trying to be an individual in a team environment. Name that "another."Not that I agree with you interpretation. How a guy being upset with his own performance is some sort of negative example of selfishness is something that's beyond me. But just for argument's sake, name another. When has he blown off practices, or missed workout or offseason minicamps, or not reported on time, or bashed his team/coach/ownership in the media? When has he complained about not getting ball enough or being the focus of the offense? How many nights has he slept at PBS because he's been there too late studying film? What did he do after all those drops in Cleveland, whine about the rookie QB or "stay after" to get in sync with him?Any allegation that CJ isn't a team player is pure, unadulterated BS. denverbengal
From bengals.com...11/9/2004 - "I still can't believe all of this. This is absolutely just wonderful!" -- Kelly Doppes Ever heard of the phrase, "being in the right place at the right time?" That's exactly where Bengals fan Kelly Doppes was Tuesday. Kelly came to Paul Brown Stadium to purchase tickets to an upcoming Bengals game when Chad Johnson, who was tending to personal business on his day off, noticed her at the ticket window. "What seats are you purchasing?" Johnson asked. Looked up with a shocked expression at who was asking, Kelly told him the seat location. "Get her the better seats and it's on me," said Johnson, who paid for the tickets on the spot. There's just no room for that kind of behavior on this team. WhoDey93285
Chad seem sorry for his actions in the enquirer. He said "we were winning. I know better then tp behave like that. You'll never see that again." Chad's a good guy, and from the story above, he seems cool. He's just a competitor. He made a mistake. He's human. And he seems sorry. BengalNation1281
By the way, I watched the game today on fox and I was really upset with how Fox went about things today. The whole "pouts" thing was uncalled for and was child like. Fox Network was more of the child today than Chad was. There is no room to put that crap on the air.Yeah, that really does seem extreme. Very unprofessional. Look at who the announcers were! Kenny Albert and Brian Baldinger are both raging tools. I had to sit through their "expert" analysis during the Chiefs/Panthers game earlier this year, and they are probably the worst announcers in football. They were doing it to be funny, but it still couldn't trump the humor from the crap coming out of their mouths.BN1281
WHO DEY AGAIN?
Look at who the announcers were! Kenny Albert and Brian Baldinger are both raging tools. That's good stuff! I think we might have a few of them on this board as well. Didn't they win this week? No matter what you saw you have NO idea what Chad said or was thinking. It did look bad but I'm giving him the benefit of doubt. He deserves that. For what it's worth I think Chad learned something.
ackley1
I'll just say this:f**k Chad and his damned ego. There's 51 other guys on this damned team.Chad, TO, Keyshawn, Randy Moss, etc. They are all a bunch of f**king individual primmadonnas just trying to get on SportsCenter. And Chad's the worst one of the bunch--HE'S PLAYED FOR A LOSING TEAM FOR HIS ENTIRE CAREER!!!!!!! (Although short career). It's all about ME ME ME. Gimme Gimme Gimme. WHaaaaa!!! Whaaaa!!!! Whaaaaa!!!! If they wanna be individualistic prick primmadonnas, then I have a game that they can play--THE NB--f**king A.That's right--GO PLAY f**king BASKETBALL. THAT'S MORE OF AN INDIVIDUAL EFFORT. KOBE AND SHAQ PROVED THAT YOU DON'T NEED A TEAM EFFORT. THE LAKERS WERE A BUNCH OF INDIVIDUALS LAST YEAR AND STILL MADE THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP.Someone needs to put a foo-foo in these athletes' mouths and tell them that FOOTBALL IS A TEAM SPORT. YOU NEED ALL 11 PLAYERS ON THE FIELD DOING WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL. TO is a lot worse than Chad. Chad does talk about himself a lot but he doesn't complain about the team much. At least not yet. :player:

WorldBFree
Right now, it looks like CJ is walking the fine line between being an allaround hardworking good guy NFL star (his late nights watching game tape are a good example) and an attention seeking glorywhore. Hopefully, he realizes that all the great ones are part of the first category. Even with great numbers, players like Michael Irvin, Keyshawn and TO are never going to have the legacy of guys like Largent, Rice, and Harrison because people can't identify with them. I hope he doesnt explode like dillon. He will if we 1.)he doesn't get his catches or 2.)continue to lose . If we can aviod 1 or 2 then he should be a happy camper, if not I hope we can get more than a 2nd rounder for him. I was extremely disappointed in how Chad conducted himself on sidelines, appearantly his teammates didn't mind , so why should I care. I just think that his attitude will hurt the team and he needs to set a better example of how a leader should carry himself. Marvin did say one of the main reasons he brought some players here would be to show the younger guys how to be professionals, this is what he was refering to. That is a losing attitude that Chad is displaying and Marvin will either change the attitude or the player(see Corey Dillon), that is only way we are going win around here. jditty47
wtf are you guys smoking. dillon has the passion chad did for his first 7 yrs of his bengal career. 1 year does NOT make a career. u guys need to look at dillon's history and not just last season. u guys have a clouded memory. Chad will not turn into dillon, he is just passionate. Im glad hes passionate. For a team like Cincinnati, u need passion. 13 years of losing....u have to have something extra to bring a team like the bengals back to respecability. U have to go above and beyond, and thats why i love chad.

Uh dude. That stuff with Dillon was years ago. He bitched and moaned almost from day one. Plus don't forget that he had a history even before he got drafted. Last year was typical. If he was so passionate about winning why did he not try to help instead he tried to do just the opposite and the team was winning and getting national attention. BengalNation1281
Here's the difference:Corey Dillon: Dissatisfied from early on, gave up on the organization, didn't care about the team, demanded to be traded when he didn't get his way, wanted the championship without having to do the work.Chad Johnson: Gives everything he has for a team that has never had a winning record in the time that he has been there, never complains about the losing, cares about the team, cares about his teammates, has never demanded to be traded, wants to put in the work to help the Bengals get better.Dillon was a malcontent and a first-class b**ch; Johnson is a hard worker who gives a crap and tends to get upset from time to time. Dillon brought everybody down; Chad works to bring everybody up. the difference is night and day, and to compare Chad to Corey Dillon is horribly unfair.BN1281
skyline
Was reading the Team Notebook article on bengals.com this morning, and saw that Chad and Carson went to the MNF game in Indy together. I thought that was pretty cool that they'd make that trip, and hang out like that. Shows that whatever the media perception might have been, there arecertainly no hard feelings between the two. HoosierCat
the media will hound him to death. Now that's what I'm worried about, too. Set Chad's actions and the reasons for them aside for a moment. For the past 13 or 14 years, there's only been one story -- nationally -- about the Bengals: they suck and therefore their best players are malcontents. One 8-8 season under Lewis hasn't dispelled that impression. And now here we are again with a Bengals team struggling under the weight of injuries (and funny how that always gets pointed out to explain the bad play of teams like the Panthers, but not us, huh?), at 3-5 halfway through, and Chad boils over on the sideline after a couple blown plays. Aha, shouts the media, same old Bengals, another malcontent! The media loves the "good player stuck on a bad team" story, and they will harp on this one, I guarantee you, even if nothing ever comes of it.
