schweinhart
Do the Bengals sign Glen Steele or roll dice with Moore and Askew in DT rotation w/ Thornton and Powell?Steele wants to play and must be close to game shape after some camp w/ Giants and workouts w/ 49ers in late September and Panthers about 10 days ago.If not Steele or another DT, what is ML's move to fill roster spot left by Williams? kevnz
Unless there is a young guy out there that can fill the roster spot then you have to sign steele just to make sure you have enough people to play. Steele isn't the long term solution at DT, hopefully that'll be Askew if he ever get's on the field...well his ankle should be healed and he should get the chance now...The kid was projected to be a 1st or 2nd round pick next year, so hopefully he has learned a few things and can help. Damn how many more people does this team lost this year?
CTBengalsFan
I'd sign him for depth purposes, but Langston did great in the game last night.
TippCityRick
Personally I love Steele. All he seems to do is go out, get dirty, and make plays. I would have him on my team. Quality depth.
The_Next_Big_Thing
Sign him to a minimal salary so that he gets to play in the NFL and show his stuff, but let the young guys take the lead.
Tampa Bengal
The Bengals site says he is the leading canidate to be signed.http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCur...=0&news_id=2493
schweinhart
There's the Big O, too.Gibson had pre-season w/ Bills and Bucs. He worked out a few days ago for Steelers, who have lost Casey Hampton for year.Seems like Gibson backed up Williams spot on the right side last year more than Steele. Plus Gibson might be a little quicker than Steele.
kybengalsfan
Personally I love Steele. All he seems to do is go out, get dirty, and make plays. I would have him on my team. Quality depth. I like Steele also. After we re-signed him a while back, I was surprised he was let go again. Over the years he has made some good and timely tackles. I wonder if he is a cancer or just doesn't seem to fit Marvin's type.
BengalszoneBilly
He's been here twice, and shown the door an equal amount of times. He's "sour milk" guys! No matter how many times you put him back in the fridge, he ain't gonna suddenly go good on you!
BengalByTheBay
I think they will sign Steele again. He's a career back-up which is why they keep getting rid of him. It's not that he's not a productive player, it's just that he always ends up too low on the depth chart to keep. However, now that they've lost so many in front of him -- he'll come back in and do ok. Just doesn't have much upside. As for OG, I'd rather see Dillon back in stripes than him. He has to be the Bengals (if not the league) record holder in offsides and stupid person foul penalties. No thanks on OG -- talk about spoiled milk. jditty47
cant we get ahanatu or whatever his name is from miami instead? steele sucks and if we do get him, he shouldnt start.
BengalszoneBilly
cant we get ahanatu or whatever his name is from miami instead? The day Miami let him go I thought we'd jump on him like a hungry dog on a steak bone! Obviously someone who makes such decisions for Cincinnati doesn't think we're that hungry! Obviously someone who makes such decisions for Cincinnati doesn't think we're that hungry! Isn't it because he's the wrong side of 30 and a DE? I may be completely wrong, but I thought that was the case. The question is do we look to improve (ie sign someone who will start) or just add depth? Didn't someone metion Chris Hovan was available? Or is that not an option?
jditty47
you think we dont need depth at DE?
HoosierCat
I would sign Steele. Frankly, I think he'd be an upgrade over Williams. He can't get upfield, but Williams couldn't either, and he's better than Tony vs. the run, IMHO. But no, he isn't a long-term answer, and yes, this affords us an opportunity to take a longer look at Askew and Moore.
WHO DEY AGAIN?
See how the kids do this week and go from there. What's the league record for someone getting cut from the same team anyway?
UKstripes
Ok, point taken. I was referring specifically to DT though. If we're thinking of drafting a DT high, what's the difference between that and trading for an experienced guy who's not even 26 yet? Thi is all moot if I'm wrong about him being available though. HoosierCat
http://www.bengals.com/press/news.asp?iCur...=0&news_id=2494Looks like no Steele. Instead, it looks like Moore has the inside track on Tony's spot, with Askew moving up the chain for spot duty. Matthais still appears to have a problem remembering to stay low; I get the feeling they aren't comfortable with him quite yet. They also say Geathers will see more time, which I assume means Powell will spend more time at DT and less at DE.As long as they keep playing like the did Monday night, it works for me... schweinhart
Not even the Fins want to touch Steele or OG and they've lost both of their DT starters for the year.Fins did get an ex-Bengal, though: Mario Monds off the Giants PS.MLs still got a roster spot to fill AND another PS spot to fill. Barbarian
No. That's a no for me. Steele is trash.
schweinhart
Enquirer reports replacement for Williams will be 258-lb DT and another ex-Skin Greg Scott from PS. It's Carl Powell, Jr.
HoosierCat
The Enquirer said they might bring Scott up to fill Williams' roster spot. If he does play I'll bet it's in place of Powell, who's now iffy for Sunday with more knee problems. The paper also says Askew is likely to see his first significant playing time. Cross your fingers, everyone...
Jonboat
Powell injured ? Man, these injuries are killing us !! They did say they're going with LM, MA. LM had a good game Mon night & I'd like to see MA play but the knock on him this year, is he's kind of lazy in practice & I believe ML said he needs to mature & practice better so I think whether or not we see him play will depend on how he practices this week! I hope he does get it together he's supposed to have a huge upside but the last thing this D needs is a player who'll take a play off. I just hope the DEf. that showed up Sun & Mon nights will show up more often !! I think we've seen flashes of how ML wants this Def to play ( intense/ loose) we just need to have that intensity each week IMHO. GOBENGALS!!!
