Our Newest Ex-Skin

Cliff Russell. WR out of Utah. Former 3rd round choice (2002). Ain't played much (3 games, like 1 10-yard catch). Faster than lightning, tho: 4.27 40. But apparently lacks soft hands and good route-running habits. Waived by the Skins this year. ere's a nifty summation of draft reports on the guy from '02: http://www.webskins.org/dr02/russell.html

In other news, Webster went on IR (which is where they got room for Russell), Miller will definitely start Sunday, and Moore and Beckett both practiced Wednesday.

I Hope this doesn't mean that Warrick will be out for more than this game.

Me, too. But the move doesn't make a lot of sense (at least to me) unless that's the case.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If they lose Warrick for an extended period, they should do one of two things: either go to a two-TE set, or put Schobel in the slot.

hmmm....odd that we promote a WR, and if we give one the nod, why not the cut-master Broussard?

But this whole exercise begs the question.....Why not sign an extra DEFENSIVE PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!! or even an extra O-LINEMAN!!!!!!!

Man this is tedious. Why does the D and O-line get such little attention?

Ummm...they just signed Jerry Fontenot two weeks ago, and promoted Elton Patterson from the PS last week...so basically you're complaining that we didn't activate Mike Mabry...?

If anything, they seem light at LB right now. That's where I thought they would sign/promote someone, and why like JPW I'm worried it means Warrick may be gone longer than they're letting on.

Joisey, my point is that to sign a WR seems to be waste given the current issues on the squad....

I realize that the Fontenot and Patterson moves are recent (and I laud mgmt for them) but those were desperation moves to fill holes that required immediate attention. How does signing a 3rd or 4th string WR make any sense? The only reasoning I can come up with could be that Warrick does not have a problem with his shin at all, it is in fact his knee that is tweaked again..OR..Tj is nicked and K-Wash needs some competitive motivation. Like what was mentioned, where is Mann or Broussard?

What I'm complaining about is that we are thin and hurting on O-line, the D-line is under performing for the second straight year, and our LB corps is demolished, we go sign, by all accounts, a real fast guy with moderate hands who can neither return punts, kick-offs or tackle and has been cut by the Redskins and hasn't suited up in an unknown amount of time. How does this make sense?

I agree, it doesn't make a great deal of sense. To those who think it was a special teams move, well, maybe, but if a starter goes down you don't fill his hole with a guy who's job is to play on kicks. But we'll see.

As for the lines, well, who would you cut? We haven't lost anyone on either the d-line or o-line permanantly, except for Szalay, and his slot was filled by Fontenot. Vitrually all the injuries to linemen are of the nagging knee or ankle type and apparently just about everyone should be back after the bye week. The only two I haven't heard updates on lately are Andrews and Askew. So if you want some new linemen, someone is going to have to go...and frankly I don't know anyone out there sitting around waiting for a phone call who'd be better than we have now.

As for LB, I agree. Go get Gildon! Yes, I know he's not the player he was but he's definitely the best available right now, and he can help at DE, too. Hopefully, he's one of the guys they look at during the bye.

Any move is a good move if it improves the team. The position doesn't matter. It's not like a bunch of all pro's are out there to pick from.

Why pick up a player that isn't going to help the team just because he plays a position where you need help. Everyone knows we need a DT but there are none to be had. It just so happens this guy can help the team and he's a WR. My only beef is he's an ex-Redskin. I think we've reached our limit in that department.

HAIL to the ex-Redskins! Fight for old Cincy! :P

Yes the move for the WR was mystifying. I agree that it must be a special teams move. Guess we'll know on Sunday.

As for LB, they must be waiting for the bye week. They must dress all five LB's they have on the roster and LB's are generally strong on special teams. I wonder if they'll have Miller working teams as well as starting on D? Seems that may open him up to being tired in the fourth quarter.
