Kelley Washington

Well, after two weeks the guy alot of us thought would break out this year has done nothing. Nothing at all. Not only has Kelley only caught 1 ball for 9 yards. But he has only been thrown to twice! Despite Carson throwing to 10 different recievers in the first two weeks!

So, whats the deal here. Wait till next year? Is he healthy? Having trouble running routes?

Shoot, I didn't even raelize he'd had a catch this year. Musta been in the john during that one . I stand corrected on my post on the other thread. But as to why, like I said there, he's the No. 4 wideout right now. He has to beat out TJ to get on the field more and TJ's doing good.

Yea TJ is looking pretty good but it is early in the season still.

I suspect that we will be hearing from Kelley before it is all done and over.

The more WRs we have that are doing well the better...

Well it's only two games into it. So it's probably a little early to gripe about Kelley getting the ball. Our WR corp is one of the deepest in the league and it's a fight to get on the field. Especially with the way P-dub and TJ are playing at the moment. So unless he just has a break out game in 4WR sets, or one of the 3 ahead of him get injured  then he's gonna have a hard time getting playing time.

I honestly see your point. But one catch for two games is horrible. I don't like TJ, in fact, I think he's having one of those "flash pan deals" and "will reform to his former can't hold onto the ball and let passes slip through his hands" ways. If he turns that around this year, then great, we can trade him.

If we're going to use this season to let youngsters gain experience, then why not Wash?

Yeah, but the question how many times was Kelley thrown to? Naturally Carson is gonna have confidence in P-Dub and CJ, and it seems he has some in TJ now. Plus I can see him getting more time depending on the size of the other teams nickel back. He's pretty big for a WR and if they can get a mismatch then watch out. I would agreee with you about TJ, I'd much rather see Kelley out there instead. It's hard to start making assumptions about playing time after two games. I mean we played behind most of the games against the Jets and both 80 & 85 had big games so that's taking catchs away. As for Miami, the #2 D in the league was pretty hard for any of our recievers to get catchs. So I'm taking the let's wait and see and talk more after the bye week.

I like Washington---a lot---but maybe TJ has just simply outplayed him? Because TJ has sure as hell had some big catches in the first few games, and has been running some pretty sick routes. Back before he got hurt last year, we were all pretty high on him too. I think this is a case where Bengals have four options at WR, and it's going to take a certain type of game and coverage for Washington to register an impact right now.

Marvin is HUGE on competition, TJ may have won the 3rd job and Washington may not have it back yet.

Much as I am not a TJ fan, the guy seems to run routes well. It appears that this is the weakness in Kdub's game right now. I think he's got big catch potential, but TJ's taking the possession receiver role and doing pretty well so far. I do think Kdub will get some big chances beginning with the Pitt. game. I do not think next week is going to be much different than Miami. I think what we all feel is that TJ is okay, but inconsistent and Kdub is the future and could be the speed edge receiver to really get CJ out of constant double coverage. He definitely has the excitement potential (except for that ugly squirrel thing -- maybe that's what's keeping Marvin from getting him on the field more).

Yeah, but the question how many times was Kelley thrown to?

Here are the stats for the first two games combined, targets are how many times a reciever was thrown to, even if it was a batted down pass or a penalty.

............................Targ Rec YD TD

Houshmandzadeh....6 4 51 0

Johnson, C..............14 8 144 1

Johnson, J.................1 1 8 0

Johnson, R...............2 1 4 0

Kelly, R................... 2 2 2 0

Schobel, M...............7 4 12 0

Stewart, T................8 2 17 0

Warrick, P...............16 11 127 0

Washington, K......2 1 9 0

Watson, K................5 5 21 1

Marvin will always go with the guy who is producing, if Washington hasn't been able to prove he's the #3 receiver this year, then TJ plays. I agree that TJ is probably just having one of his "Flash in the Pan" moments and that he'll cool off and drop to 4th.

It would be nice to see the Bengals get into more 4 or 5 WR sets and get some playing time for the other WRs, but I like Carson Palmer and don't want to see him get killed, so I think we should hold off on that until we can protect the QB!!!

What mind boggles me the most is why tony stewart even plays. Look at that statline 8 thrown to, 2 catches. I didnt see him do anything all game while he was in there on sunday. I wish we would cut him. Schobel is a better receiver and kelley is a better blocker.

While I agree that that is two many targets for Stewart, it is cumulative for both of the first two games.
