Mann Added to Practice Squad

9/7/2004 - The Bengals today added fifth-round draft pick Maurice Mann to their practice squad a day after cutting him from the 53-man roster, giving them a full complement of eight. Here is the complete practice squad roster:

BENGALS PRACTICE SQUAD

Name Pos. Ht. Wt. School Exp.

Allen Augustin OLB 6-0 225 Florida St. R

Jamall Broussard WR 5-7 172 San Jose St. R

Pete Lougheed T 6-5 300 Purdue 1

Maurice Mann WR 6-2 185 Nevada R

Elton Patterson DE 6-2 271 Central Florida  2

Cliff Russell WR 5-11 193 Utah 2

Greg Scott DL 6-4 293 Hampton 2

Larry Stevens OLB 6-2 241 Michigan R

Not a bad PS. Scott & Patterson give us quick options if someone gets hurt on the d-line, Mann & Broussard flashed in the preseason.

Good crew for a practice squad.

Surprised not to see a center, though.

They need to pick one up. That's why I mentioned Fontenot in the other thread. But I don't think they'll make any moves to sign vets like him (or Gildon, if they're still interested) until after the Jets game, when they don't have to guarantee their salaries.

Center? The Bengals already have 3 on the roster (not counting specialist long snapper St Louis). Braham, Moore, and Szalay I know Szalay is on IR, but any center on the practice squad isn't exactly gonna be able to come in and start anyway cause it's a demanding position. If Braham goes down for any extended time move moore to center and then pull someone up for the guard spot....Guards are a lot easier to find than centers

Seems like Mabry was on the practice squad in 2003 and played in Europe. He got cut early though.

I just wonder who is the C if Braham and Moore are out. Can't be St. Louis.

Who else is the center if needed vs. Jets?

Well, if both of those guys are injured they are up the creek...And would be even if they had more centers signed as they would be inactive during the game and not able to play cause you don't waste an active spot on a 3rd center...hell, most teams don't have a 3rd center....

Yup, and Moore is filling in for Steinbach, who may not go Sunday. If that happens, Moore's our only center and our LG becomes (gulp) Victor Leyva.

Just to be clear, I'm not questioing why they don't have a C on the Ps; agreed, that wouldn't be any help. But they only have 9 OL on the active roster, they usually keep 10. Looks to me like they're keeping a spot open to sign a vet after Sunday. And center would make the most sense.
