AGrizzlyBaer
Bengals put 4 on IR The Bengals put just as many players on season-ending injured reserve Monday as they released in getting to the NFL’s maximum roster limit of 65. Gone for the year are backup wide receiver Patrick Johnson (hand) and backup linebacker Frank Chamberlin (arm), injured in Saturday night’s loss in Atlanta. Also gone are punter Kyle Richardson (shoulder), injured in the preseason opener, and backup linebacker Khalid Abdullah (ankle), injured in practice the first week of training camp. Released were three veterans in cornerback Alvin Porter, tight end Chad Hayes, and running back Herbert Goodman, as well as rookie free-agent safety Wendell Williams. The club officially put down cornerback Dennis Weathersby for the season, placing him on the reserve/non-football injury list. Weathersby, who suffered a serious head injury in an April car accident, had said during the minicamps he wouldn’t play this year but hoped to return in 2005. i guess with p.j. going on the ir that mean the wr will keep mann and/or bussard
ShulaSteakhouse
Mann caught a nice, long bomb for a TD last night for me in ESPN 2K5 against the Squealers to send my 2nd year Bengals team to 2-1. He was wide open and burned everybody on a PA fake to the corner.I think they should keep Mann as a result. The injuries this year are crippling the Bengals' hopes. Perry was a wasted draft pick (completely unimpressed with him) as they could've picked up someone like him in FA or later in the draft. The complete lack of any impact player added to the roster this year, combined with the multitude of mysterious and long-lasting injuries, may doom the Bengals to another sub-500 season I'm afraid. They are capable of beating anybody at home, but on the road they fold quickly. ShulaSteakhouse
Also, and please don't anyone tell me Webster was an impact addition - a back-up from another team doesn't count, nor do his 1 or 2 tackles this entire preseason - absolutely PITIFUL for a MLB.That said Hardy and Simmons have been completely AWOL this preseason as well and Hardy in particular needs to be replaced soon with someone younger, tougher and faster/hungrier. CJBestInAFC
So how long before Caleb Miller is starting? What about Hugh Douglas? He was released recently and he would be a nice addition to the Bengals, but at what price?
Kirkendall
Also, and please don't anyone tell me Webster was an impact addition - a back-up from another team doesn't count, nor do his 1 or 2 tackles this entire preseason - absolutely PITIFUL for a MLB. I completely agree about Webster. I was at the game against New England, and I specifically watched Webster on the first few series' and just didn't impress me. I'm sure he'll improve over time with tutelage from Marvin and Frasier, but as of right now, I'm not impressed with Webster.
Tampa Bengal
I've seen Webster play and he's good. I think it's just a matter of getting use to a new defense. I think he will come around in a few games. Probably sooner than later.

JPW
For the record... Nate Webster has 8 tackles in what amounts to maybe a game and a 1/2 of playing time. And maybe you should have keep an eye on him a little longer in the Pats game.He put a Smack on CD down at the goal line that was one of the best hits of the game. The Brew Man
Well, Johnson going down clears the WR position up a bit I guess, wasnt sure who would be cut.I couldnt agree more about Webster so far, he has not been impressive, the man needs to be more involved. Whether its the D-line of him just not getting there im not sure. i just hope it improves inthe reg season.....

Seriously, I can't wait to see what this place is going to be like during the regualr season. 1 good game and we're Super Bowl bound, 1 bad game and we're getting the 1st pick in the Draft.Got a bunch of manic-depressive people whose mood swings change faster than my avatars.RELAX.No one is expecting more than maybe a 1st round playoff appearance from the team this year. When we lose, and we will...sometimes badly, don't think that the whole team sucks, our FAs were no-talent leftovers, our draft picks were a waste, and that our coaches don't know what they are doing. Take it in stride and know that the next game can always be a big victory and that the team is headed in the right direction for the 1st time in over 10 years.Oh yeah, and Chris Perry can still be a good running back, he's a rookie with 3 preseason NFL games under his belt and if Rudi decides to go away next year in FA then he will be our starter...thats why he was picked. And, I know it was a joke, but if Madden can tell you something about how a player will perform then Chris Perry should definitely stick around cause I gained 1,500 yds with him sharing the carries with Rudi in my 1st year franchise! kingwilly
As far as Nate Webster is concerned, we all heard a bunch of comparisons to Ray Lewis. That is an absolute JOKE. He is OK, at best. Caleb Miller will be pushing him by game 4 for start time. Caleb can also drop back and effectively play the monster/safety position on pass plays way better than Webster could. Simmons just got scoped so now there is a real conundrum...How many LBS to keep?Let's limit the psuedo-reality ESPN/Madden game result and conclusions. There is nothing more preposterous. As far as WR go, Broussard makes it with Patrck Johnson on IR (sad), Mann may stick, but what about Zeisel and Walter. If P-Dub and Squirrel boy are dinged up, who do you roll the dice with?Hugh Douglas is washed out. No more overpaid veterans with lots of mileage and no motivation. We are not the Washington Redskins.
jditty47
walter, broussard, and mann will all make the team. Zeisel will not. Stop with the madden talk comparing it to RL. Mann in my 2nd season has a total of 1 career catches. Hes still a 64 overall and will never see the field more than 5 receiver sets, and thats only if someone is injured or tired. I was at the game, watched Webster most of the time he was in. Other than the tackle on Dillon, he didn't have another -- not even an assist.A little concerning for a guy who's the middle linebacker, isn't it?
