Willie Anderson

This article was on MSN today regarding having a Dream Team football team for the Olympics similar to the Basketball Team.

Willie Anderson was selected as one of the starting tackles for this team. However no one else from our beloved Bengals was listed as a starter or a reserve.

Hines Ward was selected as one of the two back-ups at WR. I think Chad is a better player than Ward.

never happen. its an american sport, not a world sport.

Not unless NFL Europe starts growing by leaps and bounds. Honestly I don't ever see it becoming popular enough worldwide to become an Olympic sport. If it does, that's when I'll start watching the Olympics. I've recently tried watching the games, and found myself bored outa my skull! :(

I'll be sure to tell all the kiwis and Aussies that play to stop playing right away and please disband their national teams and the leagues at the local level....You guys really need to stop believing the press so much.

NFL Europe has a great deal of support at local levels in Europe....The reason it isn't making money is that they are playing US talent and running it at a pro level....Should have started smaller. But it has done wonders for the game in Germany, and Spain...The Uk hasn't really embraced it....But saying that we all know that we have a few UK fans here and hell I know a huge football fan that's British....

You'd be surprised at the level of support that the NFL get's.

But Really, football as a olympic sport is just crazy...Hell there are a lot of calls for team sports to be done away with in the olympics...But there are a lot of team sports that don't have a huge following worldwide but are in the olympics....Handball? (man those chicks play hard) Water Polo? Field Hockey? Lame!

Gridiron was massive in the UK in the 80's and early 90's!!

Interest in the UK has waned somewhat since the demise of the London Monarchs, which obviously has a knock effect with the media and the "publicising" of the game overall.

The Scottish Claymores are still competing however (Scotland 1, England 0 !!)

I think the Olympics (yawn, yawn) should only have amatuer competitors, therefore a team from the NFL would be eligible in my book. It does however open it up for all you keen and athletic footie fans to get out of your armchairs and get padded up to represent your nations!

..... there'd still be a lack of oppostion though.

I've enjoyed the Olympics so far, there have been events which have been boring, and sometimes the qualifying meets are hard to watch, but there have been many close races and exciting finishes. The US has done extremely well, and if we dominate in the track and field events we could reach our 100 medal goal.

Plus, who doesn't like watching someone like Amanda Beard!! :D

Football as an Olympic sport, can't see it happening unless the qualifying matches were held long before and the teams played 2 matches during the 2 week games to determine medal standings. Even then it would be difficult.

As far as pro athletes in the Olympics, I don't see a problem with it. You have to take the best athletes that your country has to offer, and in some sports they are the professionals. You send your champions, not your second best.

I have no interest in it this year. I love athletic competition but after all the stripping of medals and gymnastic controversy, there's no reason why I believe it's competitiveness at all.

It's taxing on the spirit of the game and the Olympics is nothing more than an international commericialized event. The competitive spirit died many years ago and nothing resembles what made it great originally.

Truly sad.
