chrishcovga
AP reports WR Kelley Washington, who sat out Wednesday, isn't sure he'll play in Atlanta Saturday after he turned his ankle and knee in Tuesday's scuffle with CB Terrell Roberts. But he says he'll be able to play in the preseason finale Sept. 3. OL Thatcher Szalay (wrist) is out indefinitely with a broken navicular bone. TE Reggie Kelly (thumb) won't play against his ex-Falcons teammates, but expects to play in the finale. It doesn't look like WR Peter Warrick is going to play either Saturday night after sitting out Wednesday. * Szalay had been given work with the first team, his injury probably means he's out for the season.- Looks Like Palmer will play with a lot of backups! EdwardG
This is a great opportunity for Housh, Walter, Broussard, and co. to make their case for sticking on the team.

denverbengal
what the hek is a navicular bone????????????????"The scaphoid bone (also called the navicular bone) is one of eight carpal (wrist) bones. These small bones allow complex, yet delicate movements of the hand. The carpal bones fit between the forearm and hand bones. The scaphoid sits below the thumb, and is shaped something like a kidney bean."Google rules!!!
Kirkendall
I can see this team having injury problems this season prohibiting chances for the full success we all believe. I don't remember this many doubtfuls, questionables or outs in recent pre-season memory.
MoellerWhoDey
Sounds like the Bengals are having the same injury as their counterparts in the city (the Reds.) Hopefully the Bengals can have P-Dubs return to health and the Who Deys can make a run into the playoffs. P.S. This is my first post and I am glad that I found this board on Google. I have enjoyed this board thus far and hopefully I can chat away with the likes of yourselves and see the Bengals win the Super Bowl. :player: :player: :player: Who Dey! HoosierCat
I don't think the bengals have been particularly hard hit by injuries. So far, we haven't lost any presumptive offensive or defensive starters for so much as a regular season game; many teams have already lost starters for the year. We have some people dinged up, but so does everyone (take our first opponent, the Jets: McCaerins better be the shizz, because neither Santana Moss nor Wayne Chrebet have seen the field at all this preseason). At this point, I'm not sweating the boo-boos.

The Warrick situation is the only one that has me half-way nervous at the moment.
Kirkendall
Hopefully you guys are right. The most injury plagued teams I've noticed have nagging injuries and then total bust during mid-season -- sometimes during a single game. If I was to be concerned about one aspect of this team, it's definitely the possibility of injuries because I still don't think we have the depth to cover the guys that could get hurt. I agree, we're pretty "shallow" at a lot of places. I'm marginally more comfortable with our o-line depth, even with the Szalay injury, thanks to Moore's performance in preseason. And even without Warrick, I think we'd muddle through at WR. Our RB depth is fine.On defense, it's a case of, "depth? what depth?" In the secondary, even some starters (like O'Neal) are suspect, and the only reason that I'm not more concerned about a lack of depth on the line is that the starters weren't anything to write home about last year. And at LB, they're so thin they'll likely sign some vet after the Aug. 31 cuts.

HoosierCat
Well, we were doing OK on the injury front until the Atlanta game (thanks for the jinx, chrish ). Lessee, Beckett (head injury) and Chamberlin (arm) I haven't heard any updates on this a.m. Thornton is getting an MRI done on his foot, that don't sound good. Steinbach reaggravated the elbow, unclear how seriously. Patrick Johnson broke his hand, he'll likely be out for a few weeks (if he even makes the team now, hello, Jamal Broussard!). Oh, and Kenny Watson left the game with cramps. Great, just great.

Oh, and Kenny Watson left the game with cramps. Great, just great. Hey now, As much as I would like to take credit for Voodoo, I'm afraid I just can't in this case. - But i will leave you with this old football analogy - You get hurt when you don't play hard - and that was in vintage form last night. - Somehow or another, I have to thank the football gods for Arthur Blank losing his damn mind and overcharging $ 70.00 a piece for NOSEBLEED seats that prevented me from seeing the game in person. 2 seasons ago , i had to sit there and watch us get pummeled by the Falcons 30-3 on national television with a Falcons fan from work I took to the game. - Beckett and Herring did a terrible job of identifiying passes over the middle. Schaub didn't throw a single out pattern, everything was in the middle of the field and not one safety could be found until after the completion. Sloppy uninspired play led to injuries, we should have been able to wax a team like this, Everyone including Palmer appeared to be running threw the motions. We need to see a much better effort come next sunday.

We need to see a much better effort come next sunday. I agree with the venerable maxim about getting hurt if you don't play hard. I'm not surprised that Beckett couldn't find the ball with both hands, a map and a radar antenna; he's a run-stuffing/pass-rushing safety. Which brings up the same question I mentioned in the game thread: what was up with the playcalling. I only got to listen, so I'd appreciate any insight from someone who actually saw it. They didn't appear to adjust to the blitz on offense; did Palmer go out of the shotgun at all last night? And did they blitz at all on defense? That's where Beckett should have been, not lost in coverage.Maybe Marvin and Co. just decided to show nothing but basic football, come hell or high Atlanta scores? And the players responded to the hamstrung playcalling with lackluster efforts? ("Why bother, we're playing with one hand tied behind our backs as is?") I'm not looking for excuses, the Bengals got their heads handed to them, but our offensive and defensive strategy appeared to be not just vanilla, but raw vanilla bean. schweinhart
Can players be put on PUP and IR lists for the Aug. 31 cuts?Looks like Abdullah and Weathersby? are headed for IR.P. Johnson, Richardson, and Szalay all sound like PUP material. If they can get placed now that'd leave only 4 player cuts.
