NoFan
I'm very impressed with the pick up Webster for the Bengals. I do believe he is better than what they had last year. But he is a mess. He bites hard on play action, over plays the runs. Let his mouth and his anger get out of control. He caused many penalties for the Bucs. He is no Ray Lewis that for sure. Plus hes a thug.WEBSTER, NATE10/99Former Miami Hurricanes linebacker Nate Webster kept playing last season despite his arrest in October on charges of battery and false imprisonment of a former girlfriend. It's unclear whether athletic director Paul Dee or coach Butch Davis were aware of the arrest. Webster, taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 2000 NFL draft, entered a pretrial intervention program. Charges will be dismissed if he completes the program. Webster was arrested by Miami-Dade police early on Oct. 16. According to a police report, he grabbed a former girlfriend by the neck and threw her to the ground, then shoved her into the vehicle in which he was riding with a friend. A witness called police, who caught Webster fleeing in the vehicle.

bengalsfan33
I think Webster is the Bengals next "Big Thing." This kid is going to be killer and does a lot remind me of Ray Lewis. Who cares if he is a thug. He cab sure play football though...

NoFan
I'm still not sold on this year's Bengal team doing much. I did see the younger players on defense are going to be pretty in a year or so. They have a lot of speed.I'm not bitter I just don't believe the hype on Webster. Tampa Bengal
You may not know this yet but everybody from Miami is a thug or a druggie, its just how they recruit players. They don't even look at you unless you have a record first!

But he is a mess. He bites hard on play action, over plays the runs.I have to agree with this assessment. Webster didn't cover guys out the backfield well at all, and he over ran a bit on running plays. I'm sure he's going to be a fine linebacker, but he didn't really impress me last night and I focused on him a ton. Yes yes yes, I know, it's pre-season, but now is as good a time as any to analyze the team.
kybengalsfan
Had we beaten the Bucs, we would have been feeling pretty good about ourselves and saying that pre-season games DO COUNT for something. However, I don't think we can sit back and think we are without problems on both sides of the ball. The defensive secondary's inability to stop the passing, and a zero effort at pressuring the quarterback are both bad signs of things to come. Can Marvin fix it? I stopped caring about the score once the first team left the field. After that, I was watching personnel in situational downs to see how they reacted, mostly from not seeing them as much. Bucfan219
Though his post was unnecessarily negative, the guy who said that Webster bites hard on play-action is on-target. It's also true that Webster has been a bit weak dropping into coverage.Hits like a ton of bricks, though, and he's a fierce competitor! If he gets wiser with game experience there's no telling how good he can get--though in TB we had hoped that he would make it to that point by the time it came to re-sign him.Good luck Bengals, good luck Nate Webster. Gruden wanted to resign him but the Bengals offered more cash and a starting position. The Bucs then drafted LBs and picked up Ian Gold instead. "(Drafting a linebacker) was important. With Nate Webster not being here, it was very important. We went out and tried to address the depth of our linebacker corps in free agency with Jeff Gooch and Keith Burns. We took another step in the right direction with Marquis Cooper." http://tampabaybuccaneers.com/news/newsdet...spx?newsid=3779
HoosierCat
According to bengals.com today, Webster isn't practicing and Miller is getting snaps with the first team. Is Webster hurt?
ShulaSteakhouse
Webster = overrated, undersized big mouthLewis needs to get some real impact players on defense and quit trying to think he and Leslie can polish turds with numbers. Why is everyone talking about his big mouth? Maybe he was known for that in Tampa, but I haven't heard a peep out of him since he's been here other than to say he'd rather let his play do the talking...He seemed to play fairly well against Tampa Monday. I'm optimistic...

Man, I totally agree with you, Steak.Webster needs to STFU and get his head outta his ass. If he lets his playing "talk" for him, then I'll say that I was wrong about him.So far, all I've heard about is how hard Webster can hit--yet, he makes Oompa Loompas look like Sam Adams!!!Like the Bungles, I wanna see results from Nate Webster--then I'll start saying that Nate Webster is the man. I'm still going to predict that he gets run-the-f**k-over.

Don't get me wrong here--I'm sure as hell hoping I'm f**king wrong!!!I'm hoping that Nate Webster's midget ass doesn't get lifted 10-feet in the air like Da f**king Solja!!!LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!I'm loving it that the Browns are shaking their heads in disbelief at that one!!!Too f**king funny!!! Okay, please explain to me how someone can be 6 feet tall and 235 pounds and be a midget? I mean Ray lewis barely has 1 inch and less than 10 pounds on Webster...Does that make Lewis a midget? I don't remember the situation, but Webster made a tackle (and it was a nice hit) and started celebrating after the Running back (the guy he's supposed to cover) gained 7 yards. Yeah, I agree with you in general. I do have a little more patience, though, with those who get pumped up and excited while playing than those who run their mouths in interviews... I like players that get pumped too don't get me wrong, but not after giving up 7 yards on a pass play to a guy your supposed to cover. As for players saying things off the field, I'm in the belief that players are employed by their employeer and if you slam him publically, you'll get into trouble. I know I would or everyone else here would.
