2013 NFL Draft: By NFLDraft101

Recommended Posts

I'm still a huge fan of Barrett Jones in the 1st. This is from WalterFootball at the combine:

Alabama center Barrett Jones is the most versatile lineman in the 2013 NFL Draft given his ability to possibly play all five positions on the offensive line. Jones (6-4, 306) was an inch shorter than expected, but his arm length of 34 1/8 inches allows teams to consider him for tackle in the NFL. He was an All-American at left tackle, center and guard for the Crimson Tide. The intelligent and experienced Jones could end up being a second-day pick who causes a lot of people to wonder why he wasn't selected early in his draft class.

An All-American at LT, Center, AND Guard ??

Yeah, it would suck to use a pick on a guy like that... <_<

Sounds like a no-brainer choice to me. If there was one glaring weekness on Offense it was the middle O-line. You can never have to many big guys.

I thought this was a pretty good write up on him here:

Centers aren't usually thought of to be 1st round guys "for the most part".

Barrett also had surgery on his foot in January from what I read.

Won the Outland Trophy his Jr year at LT and then the Rimington Award last year at Center.

However, I think the concern is his strength even though his 27 reps would have tie for 3rd among centers.

Hard to say, but either way I like the kid.

The more I read about this kid the more I want him. Take the closest thing to a sure fired NFL starter in this draft with the first round pick and make the interior O-line better at both the passing and running games. Use the 2 second rounders to fill out the needs at RB and LB, then move on to BPA at almost any other position.

I think he would be a very safe pick. Worst case scenario you have a solid guard. Reminds me a bit of Steinbach. Same rep as a technician, same versatility to play anywhere on the line, same lack of ideal strength knock. I don't think he will go in the first but he won't last long in the second.

There is a some steinbach here, yes, but he is at least 10% bigger than Steinbach - 285-ish vs 310-ish

strength is a knock? he put up 27 reps on the 225 at his pro day (link below), which is at least solid....and strength is one of the few things one can improve on during one's nfl career

I agree, but remember, this is the time of year when it's all about tearing guys down and looking for any reason a guy shouldn't be drafted high. In this case it's that the guy isn't a mauler. A year of work may be able to change that, but first rounders are all about immediate impact. Personally, I think the questions about his strength are overblown, but this is what you get a month before the draft.

i am totally onboard. what`s shula`s take on this guy? he is constantly reminding us that the bengals never take interior line guys high in the draft. there was a write up the other day that the bengals have only taken an OL in the first round 13% of the time in the last 30 years.
