HoosierCat
Interesting but not all that surprising. I tend to look at preseason as a test of teams' depth more than anything else, and teams that can withstand the inevitable injuries which come with a season will go far. wookie
Interesting, but some Super Bowl participants of the past have had notoriously bad preseason records. The Bills 4 consecutive Super Bowl appearances, albeit all defeats, was still an impressive feat and they had mediocre or bad preseasons each year. It was almost expected, the fans would've been uncomfortable with a good preseason thinking it would mean the opposite and the team would do nothing all season. For me, preseason is a good look at how the team is coming together as a unit, and how much depth they have. The records shouldn't mean a thing.
CTBengalsFan
if carson throws a bunch of INTs that means bad news.
wookie
3 td's to 1 pick tonight in the scrimmage. If he can do that then the Bengals will be ok, as long as they can get 100 on the ground each game as well.
chrishcovga
I think it does mean something, especially to the younger guys. - They have to see the veterans want to win those games. The desire to win has to be placed there or we'll breed the mentality to except mediocrity again. Plus If I'm a young player trying to make a team , I would want to know how winning in the NFL feels like early, and not waiting for it to happen 'till after the season starts ! If the junior players don't see the senior players excelling, what do they have to aspire to?
Barbarian
I also remember Minnesota going 4-0 during pre-season during either 2001 or 2002 and they totally sucked in the Regular Season. The only thing preseason does, is check your backups and scrub players. Coaches don't run anything that isn't very "Vanilla". They want to see who's got technique and who can hit, run, etc. It's a weed out time period for many teams. Then Ricky Williams pops in:"Er.....did somebody mention 'WEED'??? I'm game for a phatty!!!!"
The Brew Man
Interesting stats. Im not buying it though, the preseason is elevated tryouts.....
