closing the book on some trades

Ochocinco became WR Marvin Jones

Keith Rivers became FS George Iloku

Carson became Dre Kirkpatrick plus a 2013 second rounder, in all likelihood.

Let's say that David DeCastro became Kevin Zeitler and Brandon Thompson

lost a 7th rounder for Taylor Mays. With 10 picks, 7th rounder was very unlikely to stick.

to me, Iloku will bear watching the most, because Bengals didn't really have to trade Rivers, and did not find LBer help in the draft. I can see Rey with a suspension and wondering why Rivers wasn't kept around to pick up the slack.

Sounds like Rivers didn't particularly want to be here. Perhaps felt like he wasn't valued by the organization?

Yeah that tends to happen when you are a top 10 pick, are hurt more than not, and are solid, but not stellar.

He was never a difference maker for the LB corps and regardless of training done to "get tougher" it never appeared.

Good luck in New York Keith, you are going to need it !!!

Nice summary P. This is much like 2004 when they got a good return on the Corey Dillon trade. You've gotta think the Raiders are gonna finish in the middle of the pack or lower this season so an additional pick in the top 50 is something to look forward to.

I hope they continue to pursue trades in the future.

The only reason he didn't feel valued by the organization is because he wasn't valued by the organization. He lacked the competitive nature required to play hard football. They tried to make him more competitive, but it didn't work.

he was productive. Not 1st rounder-productive, but much better than the guy that they'll bring in to replace him, whomever that may be.

the real problem with Rivers is that you can count on him to have a major injury, and Bengals certainly do need someone that they can count on to be on the field.

I'd have kept him for one more year, though. big need in the LB corps.

Actually, I applaud the team for finally starting to get rid of players that no longer want to be here.

My guess is that Rivers was butthurt that Howard came in and took his job.

Could we use someone to backup the spot ?? Sure, but if he truly didn't want to be here, move on.

Good for the team.

Rivers knew that he needed a new contract. Let him flash his skills to his next employer while producing in Cincy.

but Mikey's riding quite a streak of luck. maybe Iloku fills the enormous safety hole and it turns out to be another big victory for the Bengals.

give me Powerball numbers, Mikey

They didn't have to. They have a healthy Howard that produced better than Rivers.

I'm not saying Rivers was garbage, but when they brought in Howard, they found someone capable of giving what Rivers was capable of giving when he was healthy. Honestly though, it's neither here nor there.

Well that 7th rounder netted us more then likely Starting Strong Safety,Really don't see anyone on current roster beating him out. maybe sands

Brandon Johnson seems like an important guy to re-sign right now.

Rather Extend Howard well we continue to develop Muckleroy..

The starting safety that it netted us was Reggie Nelson. Next yr at this time we can talk about where our 7th rd pick went and hopefully point to a contribution from Taylor Mays
