ArmyBengal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 And the more he gets brought up, the more I keep getting feelings of a Barron/Jenkins first round...I think that's one of the more unlikely scenarios.. I don't see Jenkins going in the 1st at all and I think the Bengals are ready to go with Mays.Don't get me wrong,I don't really want either of them. What I won't overlook is the need at both positions and having the chance to get the best safety and best pure cover corner in the draft. That is something the coaches will have to figure out, but there's no denying the talent. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 but there's no denying the talent. That talent will count for nothing if Jenkins end up on any suspension. Jerome Simpson has got oodles of talent but he'll not be very productive for the Bengals or anyone else if he's watching from the stands.I'll pass on Jenkins and be happy to have some other team deal with the headaches he may bring. Claiborne, Gilmore or Kirkpatrick for me please . Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 I don't deny Simpson has "athletic ability" but he runs poor routes and has unsure hands. One flip into the endzone doesn't change any of that in his regard.Jenkins is an idiot as well, but I don't view them the same. Jenkins is the best pure cover CB in the draft. If not for his poor decisions, he would be a top 5 pick with little thought. However, I don't want him either due to his life issues. Pot charges ?? Ok, I can overlook that. 4 kids by 3 different women at that age ?? Yeah, that is just ridiculous. I don't think he stays out of trouble for a whole season, but again, there's no denying the talent. Well, unless he had twins once.I'll put up with his life crap if he can stay on the team and contribute as a starter. That does seem to be a big IF, though. Quote
derekshank Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Word is that Janoris Jenkins was fired by his agent... not the other way around.I've never even heard of such a thing. If true... that's the biggest red flag I've ever seen. Stay away. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Yeah I posted a link to them saying it was the player firing the agent and how it was handled all "professional", but that is exactly what I would be saying as well. Then again, there was a story (can't remember where) where the old agent actually confirmed that Jenkins went with another agent and that their story was correct.Either way, I would still rather they passed... Quote
Scottishbengal Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 If Janoris Jenkins ends up with a divisional rival we play his "pure cover" ability twice a year. If he ends up with another team we play against him ???? often.I think the negatives outweigh the positives when you're selecting in a game of chance ....... steer clear, move on. Quote
Stripes Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 I don't even like Jenkins as a prospect. He'd be a terrible pick, imo. Quote
cHaD711Johnson Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Jenkins would be the worst pick that we could possibly make out of anyone that I've seen mocked to us. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I never said he would be a good pick for us and have stated I don't want him in stripes. However, he is in fact the best cover corner in the draft this season and will be a gamechanger for some team if he decides to pull his head out. I just don't think that will happen. If you don't like the guy because of his decisions (I fall in that category) that's fine, but to claim he's not a good player is being foolish. That being said, I hope he goes to an NFC team... Quote
Stripes Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I don't like Jenkins's size. He is listed at 5'10" but I'm not sure I'm buying that. He looks like Tye Hill to me. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I don't like his size either. Outside his boneheaded decisions, that is my biggest concern with him. Quote
derekshank Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I don't like his size either. Outside his boneheaded decisions, that is my biggest concern with him.Jenkins measured 5'10" 193 lbs at the combine.Gilmore measured 6'0" 190 lbs at the combine. If Jenkins is too small... so is Gilmore. Jenkins actually fits the Bengals system better, as he's the best press-coverage CB in the draft (he may be small, but he is very disruptive and physical at the line - and has the athleticism to stay with even the very best WRs). That said - he's just too much of a risk. I don't want him unless he falls to the 53rd pick. Maybe not even then. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Here's the thing I have been looking over recently about Gilmore and maybe someone more in tune with him at SC could expand on. Heading into the combine and depending on where you look, still is, he was considered a 2nd round pick. He was said to have lapses in coverage and is still developing. With the line of thought being that coaches rarely change their opinion of a player based upon the combine and their pro day, how has he managed to be a player that won't get by #12 overall ??It's not to say I don't like the kid, but it's not like he was playing at the Sacramento Academy of Gardening Science and no one has seen his team play. While I like him as a player, I can't help but wonder if he has been a product of players getting hyped up prior to the draft. Not harping either way, just curious as to the thoughts out there... I don't know if it's because they both went to SoCar and it's an easy analogy or what. But I also have heard the "A" word or that he's athletic which means we could coach him up. Not sure if I like that scenario at No. 21. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 Yeah, if somehow Jenkins were to fall to the 2nd round, I would be less concerned about them taking a chance on him there. I just don't see that happening. Ask AJ Green how he feels about Jenkins... Quote

He is still a 1st round talent and if your going to put him on the team, it doesnt matter when he is drafted. Quote

I don't think there was a single 2nd round pick last draft that had guaranteed money in their contract. Quote
