ArmyBengal
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/26/nfl-announces-32-compensatory-draft-choices-to-15-teams/So the Bengals don't even manage a 7th rounder due to the players we got and how much the contributed among other things. At first I thought we would do well with this and then looked at some of the things that go into the equation. While i'm not surprised we didn't get anything real high, I thought maybe we would manage a late round pick.Oh well. We still have a lot of picks in the draft !!!
HoosierCat
Cleveland: 4Pitt: 3Balti: 2Cincy: 0Well, shoot. That sux. Wasn't expecting any, though.
jjakq27
I wasn't expecting any either. Not sure it's a great loss unless you can find a seventh round gem like Housh or Fanene. Most will be practice team projects or training camp fodder anyway.I'm more concerned with getting some missing pieces in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds. princeton
educate me.by signing one more FA than they lost (Bo Scaife), did Bengals give up a 3rd or 4th round compensation pick for Joseph? or was a pick like that already unlikely because they signed a reasonable (but less valuable) replacement, Nate Clements? blueridge
We don't need no steenkin' comp picks!
ArmyBengal
From my understanding it has to do with not only who you lost or gained, but he price of the contract, playing time, and how the did (see pro bowl) among other things. I've read up on it a bit and it would seem as if there is no one that truly knows the whole equation unless you have a Super Secret Squirrel clearance. BengalszoneBilly
We don't need no steenkin' comp picks!Agreed. We're stacked already. Now if we just use them right we'll be golden!
ArmyBengal
For everyone loving bringing bodies into camp, wouldn't comp picks fit that role ??Personally, I'd rather see them bring in someone young that can be developed as opposed to some old dude taking space.I'm not all upset or anything, but i'd hardly say they aren't needed. Then again, maybe i'm just being argumentative today.Disregard... derekshank
Personally, I'd rather see them bring in someone young that can be developed as opposed to some old dude taking space.I agree... but aside from Nate Clements, the Bengals don't really have any "old dudes" on the roster. I think he and Bobbie Williams were the only guys on the team that were 30 or older last season. This team is so young that even their old washed up dudes are in their mid 20's. I think Geathers might be the longest tenured guy on the team. Bobby Williams might have come in via free agency that same year. After that it's probably Peko.and Whitworth and guys drafted after that..
HoosierCat
Whitworth will be 31 this year (December). The o-line is probably the oldest unit on the team. Wharton will be 31 in a couple months, Cook's 29th b-day is in July and if Bobbie comes back he'll be 36 in September. Key backup Collins will be 27 this year. The exception is the 25-year-old Andre Smith, but of course he's a FA after 2012.Both Leonard and Scott are 28, and Nelson, Pacman, Howard, Allen, Gradkowski and Geathers are or will be 29 this year. Nugent just turned 30.I don't think age is a big issue for the Bengals right now, but you can see a need to get younger on the o-line coming in a few years. I won't argue with drafting a RG early instead of bringing back Bobbie. But it does seem like O-Linemen don't hit the wall at 30 like CBs, RBs, and WRs do. Whitworth has several years left in the tank.
