According to Matt Barrows (49ers beat writer) SF inquired about Wallace... but he wants a contract that exceeds Larry Fitzgerald's 8-year $120 million contract.

I'd be happy to see Mike Brown pay the man like a true #1... but that's a ridiculous price tag. Not to mention the 1st round pick they'd be giving away. If this is true, it's probably why the Steelers didn't franchise him. They knew they wouldn't reach a long term deal with him - so either lock him down for cheaper, or else get a first round pick.

While I'm among the biggest supporters of poaching Mike Wallace from the Steelers... if that's the asking price - I'm out.

That's hilarious. Obviously, he would come with a big price tag, but that's just stupid. When will these guys figure out they're hurting themselves. He'll be playing for the RFA tender if he truly is looking for that kind of $$. Why wouldn't he just drive a hard bargain and get the guaranteed money now? Idiot - he'll probably get injured this year and his UFA leverage will be gone.

That's just it. He apparently wants to play for the Steelers and will be more than happy to go back under the tender because next year he probably won't get the tag and will hit the market anyway. He can make ridiculous demands knowing he will be good any way around and if someone actually meets those stupid demands, he scores big.

Minus him getting hurt next season, I don't think it's stupid at all...

Except ... if he negotiated a good (not ridiculous Larry Fitzgerald type) deal now, he'd be getting more guaranteed money and more to play this season than playing for the RFA tender. Combine that with the risk of injury and I say it's a stupid move. Even if he wanted to stay with the Steelers he could have negotiated a bigger deal.
