walzav29 Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 The fact that the Bengals haven't had back to back winning seasons since 81-82 makes it vital to get a playoff win this season. They have every opportunity to win the division. Offseason program, 2nd year of offense, 40 million under the cap, and 2 #1 draft picks. The right moves in this draft could set us up for a mini-dynasty. I hope they are working on it right now. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 7, 2012 Report Posted February 7, 2012 Yes, I would be very pleased with back to back winning seasons, but I don't think it's enough. Many people here felt that when we were close to the playoffs at the end of last season the season wouldn't have been a success unless we actually MADE the playoffs. They had already forgotten how most thought it would be a losing season and how some thought we may be the worst team in the whole freakin' league. Since we were having moderate success, it became necessary to get to the playoffs to feel good about it. I disagreed with that standpoint and would have still been overjoyed with the season had they missed the playoffs. That being said, that's no longer the case. I doubt ANYONE here is going to be pleased with anything but a return trip to AND a playoff win come the 2012 season. For all the reasons already mentioned with the young talent, tons of cap space, and draft picks. So again, while I will be pleased with back to back winning seasons, if they go 9-7 and don't make the playoffs, I won't give a rats butthole about the fact we had back to back winning seasons. It's just not enough. Not saying you think it will be Walter... It appears he has a perspective the rest of us don't share.Good call Walter. Quote

Otherwise it invalidates all the gains they made organizationally this year. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 8, 2012 Report Posted February 8, 2012 Billy, I have no issue with what Walter said and even said so at the end of the post. That being said, my point is NO ONE here is going to be happy with 9-7 and missing the playoffs in 2012 ?? I would really like to hear any argument about how if the Bengals go 9-7 and miss the playoffs they will be throwing some party about "At least we had back to back winning seasons!". That dog don't hunt !!!In regards to Walter predicting playoffs early on when I was predicting a 4 win season, I say kudos !!!I'm really happy this team got the playoffs this season and love being so wrong. walzav29 Posted February 8, 2012 Author Report Posted February 8, 2012 No. I won't be happy with a 9-7 non-playoff season. I am hoping that Andy Dalton will be the difference in this version of Marvins Bengals. If you think about it, the Bengals mirrored Carson Palmer. Up and Down, inconsistent. Couldn't handle adversity. The locker room was in shambles. I think there is a general consensus that Dalton is a much better leader. Plus AJ Green doesn't look to have a Chad bone in his body. This offseason is huge and with this draft could be a mini-dynasty. As much as it can be this day. On a side note. If you want to hear the Bengal ramblings of a lunatic, feel free to follow on twitter walzav31 out of my 8 followers. My close personal friend Andrew Hawkins follows me. Even if you don't follow me I think you'd love twitter in regards to Bengal news, going back and forth with the players. And breaking news.AJ GreenRey M.Andrew HawkinsGeno AtkinsKeith RiversAlot of other guys are on there. I benefit in no way. I'm just saying I thought it was very gay, but it's fun. I still can't find out why Peter King hates the Bengals. My man BengalszoneBilly. Thanks for the compliment. There's no N in my last name. Common mistake. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Whilst I admit that nothing is set in stone, nothing is impossible, I consider taking the AFCN as unlikely. We had a 2-4 divisional record last term and our 2 wins were a 10pointer and a 3pointer in a sweep of the Browns. :frustrated: I still believe we are a ways behind both Pittsburgh and Baltimore . However, if we can improve our divisonal record, perhaps a 4-2 or better as a return, we do have a shot at claiming the title. And if we do then it'll be .............. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Just as an add-on for interest, current betting for winning the Superbowl see's the AFCN teams as follows:-Baltimore 12/1 (joint 3rd favourites with Philly and Houston)Pittsburgh 16/1 (joint 4th favourites with NYG, San Diego, and San Fran)Cincinnati 50/1 (joint 8th favourtes with Carolina and Seattle)Cleveland 150/1 (joint last with Jax) Quote
