ArmyBengal Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I seriously doubt that Mike Brown will part with any significant draft pick in order to sign a FA. I don't see that happening and I don't see a 5th, 6th or 7th rd pick being enough to sway another team from parting with a RFA that they'd like to keepWell, if that free agent is a RFA such as Arian Foster and the Bengals offer him a front loaded contract that Houston is unable to match, we would give up our #20 first round pick. Given the situation of needing to take a RB in this draft, wouldn't you rather have Foster over anyone in this years RB draft class ?? I think they would be foolish not to look into that. Quote
UK Bengal Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Oh well Hobson has done his usual when we sign all our FA then there will be no room for FA pickups based on giving them all 2 mil per my god that guy sucks browns dick Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Which is complete BULLSH*T from the jump because MOST of our free agents have no business being offered contracts moving forward so I think that is a load to even make speculation that it's some kind of given. Quote

HoosierCat Posted February 17, 2012 Author Report Posted February 17, 2012 CJ is reporting that the Bengals have offered new deals to both Rucker and Fanene. Unless it's a big offer (and I doubt that highly) I'd be surprised if Fanene signed before testing the FA waters. He wanted more coin last time around.I don't see Rucker drawing all that much interest given all the problems he's had staying healthy. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Neither happy nor mad if either or both stay. Quote

Both played well when on the field though. So I want them back if healthy. But don't want to pay too much for a 50% of the time guy either. Quote
combatbengal Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 I can't stand Ward! Never want to see him in Bengal colors! Does Rivers even play for us anymore? So, here is what we need to address in my eyes!DB! We suck at covering people! Opposing teams were a good 10 yards open all season long!! No idea how Hall will be when he returns!!RB! Benson will be gone. we don't use Scott or Leonard enough!Oline!!WR! Simpson drops to many balls and he's going to jail for being a dumba... Shipley will be back but how fast will he be is the question. I think he's our Wes Welker!! But we do need another great WR!We need a new Punt/kick returned. Tate is not the answer. Quote

The advantage of signing a FA is that you don't have to give up draftpicks. Foster is a great example of how you can find guys at his position w/o blowing a high pick. Quote

I'd be cool with RB in the 1st only if Richardson falls, but not planning on that happening. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 25, 2012 Author Report Posted February 25, 2012 Apropos of nothing, we have a new installment of "Mike & Art." Not as good as the 1st two but there's a chuckle or two.../>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w-URaMwi98 Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Uh-oh. Bad news for Pittsburgh. The cap may actually be LOWER than expected. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 That means it will be lower for us as well and the new number will indicate reason to do nothing in FA.Pittsburgh ?? Priceless... Quote
derekshank Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 That means it will be lower for us as well and the new number will indicate reason to do nothing in FA.Perhaps. But a lower cap lessens most teams ability to offer big contracts.Lots of FAs out there... not much money to go around. The Bengals may find some bargains. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 I'm just playin' for the most part Derek and think Pittsburgh's situation is comical !!! Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Hensley had a good little write-up yesterday on how the Steelers are pushing off a day of reckoning. The one line that caught my eye was this:What helps the Steelers is that the salary cap is expected to jump significantly in 2014 and beyond, perhaps as much as $30 million, with the new television contracts. That should help absorb a lot of the players' increased salary-cap numbers from the restructuring of Roethlisberger, LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons, Ike Taylor and Willie Colon. Recall, if you will, the notion put for by his Hobsness that the Bengals couldn't spend big on a WR in 2012 because they have to have room to sign Green to a big deal in 2014.When the cap is going to go up by leaps and bounds. The prospect that the Steelers' cap crunch may only last a season or two would make this the ideal time for the Bengals to step up. At least it seems that way to me. But so far ye olde reading of ye olde leaves of tea doesn't seem to be pointing in that direction. Quote
Sea Ray Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 What was the cap last year? Anyone know a figure? Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 It was around $120 million, with slight variations by team. See: http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/08/16/updated-cap-space-for-all-32-teams/ Quote

See: http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/08/16/updated-cap-space-for-all-32-teams/Florio said this:The number had been expected to be at least $120 million or so per team. Though the rumor is unconfirmed, don’t be surprised if it’s lower than expected. So where's the surprise here? Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 The surprise is that it might go down. The cap was supposed to be the same.I can't recall the cap ever going down, though once upon a time (before the big TV deals) it usually only went up a little each season. Quote
walzav29 Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Next season teams must spend 89% of the cap. I wonder what Mike Brown will do. Will he just extend Dalton and Green? Will he get any free agents? I know he doesn't spend crazy, but being this much under the cap. I'm hoping there is a plan. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 29, 2012 Author Report Posted February 29, 2012 For those thinking about Michael Bush, the Raiders are still up the salary cap creek. If the 2012 cap lands at $120 million and based on the availability of $3.23 million in 2011 cap space that can be carried over, the Raiders still must clear more than $22 million in the next two weeks. UK Bengal Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 I tell you what this is gonna be one of the most hectic and crazy FA periods in the history of FA.2 weeks of pure madness I love it !!! Quote
cincyhokie Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 Yep. I enjoy the offseason with FA and the draft almost as much as the regular season. 2 more weeks until FA. Quote
