I seriously doubt that Mike Brown will part with any significant draft pick in order to sign a FA. I don't see that happening and I don't see a 5th, 6th or 7th rd pick being enough to sway another team from parting with a RFA that they'd like to keep

Well, if that free agent is a RFA such as Arian Foster and the Bengals offer him a front loaded contract that Houston is unable to match, we would give up our #20 first round pick. Given the situation of needing to take a RB in this draft, wouldn't you rather have Foster over anyone in this years RB draft class ?? I think they would be foolish not to look into that.

Oh well Hobson has done his usual when we sign all our FA then there will be no room for FA pickups based on giving them all 2 mil per my god that guy sucks browns dick

Yea he said this, and also said they had no interest in Routt, and then 2 hours after he posted it there was a report he was coming here for a visit on friday, so im not sure Hobson even knows.

CJ is reporting that the Bengals have offered new deals to both Rucker and Fanene. Unless it's a big offer (and I doubt that highly) I'd be surprised if Fanene signed before testing the FA waters. He wanted more coin last time around.

I don't see Rucker drawing all that much interest given all the problems he's had staying healthy.

Both have been out a lot due to injury. Both played well when on the field though.

So I want them back if healthy. But don't want to pay too much for a 50% of the time guy either.

I can't stand Ward! Never want to see him in Bengal colors! Does Rivers even play for us anymore? So, here is what we need to address in my eyes!

DB! We suck at covering people! Opposing teams were a good 10 yards open all season long!! No idea how Hall will be when he returns!!

RB! Benson will be gone. we don't use Scott or Leonard enough!

Oline!!

WR! Simpson drops to many balls and he's going to jail for being a dumba... Shipley will be back but how fast will he be is the question. I think he's our Wes Welker!! But we do need another great WR!

We need a new Punt/kick returned. Tate is not the answer.

i'm not interested in blowing a first rd pick on a RB in general and my guess is Mike Brown will not do such a deal for a FA. The advantage of signing a FA is that you don't have to give up draftpicks. Foster is a great example of how you can find guys at his position w/o blowing a high pick.

I get what you are saying, but my point is, if the team has thoughts of spending a first round pick on a RB, which has been thrown around greatly this offseason, would you rather go with a guy like Miller or the VT dude or give up that pick and try to steal a guy like Foster ?? I'd be cool with RB in the 1st only if Richardson falls, but not planning on that happening.

Hensley had a good little write-up yesterday on how the Steelers are pushing off a day of reckoning. The one line that caught my eye was this:

What helps the Steelers is that the salary cap is expected to jump significantly in 2014 and beyond, perhaps as much as $30 million, with the new television contracts. That should help absorb a lot of the players' increased salary-cap numbers from the restructuring of Roethlisberger, LaMarr Woodley, Lawrence Timmons, Ike Taylor and Willie Colon.

Recall, if you will, the notion put for by his Hobsness that the Bengals couldn't spend big on a WR in 2012 because they have to have room to sign Green to a big deal in 2014.

When the cap is going to go up by leaps and bounds.

The prospect that the Steelers' cap crunch may only last a season or two would make this the ideal time for the Bengals to step up. At least it seems that way to me. But so far ye olde reading of ye olde leaves of tea doesn't seem to be pointing in that direction.

It was around $120 million, with slight variations by team. See: http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/08/16/updated-cap-space-for-all-32-teams/

Florio said this:

The number had been expected to be at least $120 million or so per team. Though the rumor is unconfirmed, don’t be surprised if it’s lower than expected.

So where's the surprise here?

For those thinking about Michael Bush, the Raiders are still up the salary cap creek.

If the 2012 cap lands at $120 million and based on the availability of $3.23 million in 2011 cap space that can be carried over, the Raiders still must clear more than $22 million in the next two weeks.
