I think it's worth noting Smith's performance. In 20/20 hindsight, the decision not to pick up his option in 2011 is increasingly looking like the wrong call.

I think it's worth noting Smith's performance. In 20/20 hindsight, the decision not to pick up his option in 2011 is increasingly looking like the wrong call.

Many fans on here were bashing his play this year, but if you go back and look at he had 1 really bad game, that one against the browns. This is basically the first year he started, and can only go up from here in my eyes. I really liked the way he played down the stretch when he was in there, and i do think they found there RT. Marvin must believe in him too because he said the same thing, when asked what he found out about this year....we found our RT!

True. But at the time it would've been incredibly stupid.

My biggest concern with Smith is will he work as hard in the offseasons AFTER he gets a new contract as he did this past offseason. Maybe he has grown up but if I had to guess it would be no.

My biggest concern is still his injury history. Foot injuries are bad news for big offensive tackles (see Anderson, Willie) an he's had 2 out of 3 seasons blown up by them.

Yep. I wouldn't commit anything significant to this guy long term. Between the foot and his patchy work ethic, it isn't worth it.
