I'm a long time Tolkien fan, but I see no way The Hobbit will be as epic as the Trilogy was.

Probably not, but it's a good story (arguably better than LOTR) and they are incorporating a lot of the "off-stage" stuff from the LOTR appendices and later fragments. Heck, they even managed to stretch it to two movies. So we'll see. One thing I do expect: it'll make epic coin.

I always loved this book and think the movie will surprise a lot of people.

I think the story itself is far better overall than the others.

Yeah, same here. I always get sucked into any Godfather marathon, too.
