ArmyBengal Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Otis Hudson ?? Oh yeah, I remember him.He probably fell out from still being in utter disbelief he was drafted last year. Quote
derekshank Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Otis Hudson ?? Oh yeah, I remember him.He probably fell out from still being in utter disbelief he was drafted last year. The coaches say Hudson is their most improved player from last year. And while it might not mean much, he's ahead of Boling on the depth chart.Just sayin' Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I know Derek, I know....Caldwell was last years "most improved player" as well.Hopefully he helps the team.Hopefully the Bengals decide to address the o-line earlier in the next draft. Quote
derekshank Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 Hopefully the Bengals decide to address the o-line earlier in the next draft.Agreed. But a 5th round O-Lineman is rarely going to turn into a starter. You're looking for solid depth at that point. If he's the most improved O-Lineman, it means that he's performing that role. Hopefully he won't have to play... but it's good to know you have a solid guy on the bench if/when the need arises. And hey, he's still on the roster. Which is more than can be said for Dez Briscoe. Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 The thing that hurts most about Hudson, if he's indeed out for any length of time, is that the guy he's backing up, Bobbie, didn't exactly turn in a command performance last season. Bottom line, if I'm the Bengals I am watching the waiver wire for more o-line help. Quote

Which is more than can be said for Dez Briscoe. As I said, I hope he turns out to be everything they drafted him to be. If he gets any starting time, I think it's less of an indication of how good he is and a larger damnation of how poor the o-line is talent wise. I will be happy if he surprises the hell out of me. I certainly don't wish him anything but good luck.As for Briscoe, he got two starts with the Bucs at the end of the season and managed to be a nice compliment to their passing game. Quote
derekshank Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 As for Briscoe, he got two starts with the Bucs at the end of the season and managed to be a nice compliment to their passing game.Sure. The problem with Briscoe wasn't in Briscoe himself. It was the choice to draft a WR that had next to no chance of making the team. Despite his talent, there was no room for him. And he didn't make the team. It was a wasted pick. Quote

It was a wasted pick.Yeah, I certainly get that. It's to bad though because he certainly had the talent and the Bengals recognized that, but I believe they made poor decisions (and continued to do so) at the WR position. Now everyone is all up Whalen's backside in hoping he makes the team. While I don't bemoan the pick, had the Bengals made better decision going back, that pick could have been used on the next Otis Hudson. For what it's worth, I knew you and I would be having this conversation again. If only this was the worst of our concerns.Good times huh ?? volcom69 Posted August 9, 2011 Report Posted August 9, 2011 I was really hoping to see Dunlap on Friday, not looking good so far. Quote
HoosierCat Posted August 9, 2011 Author Report Posted August 9, 2011 Word from Geoff from practice today is that Dunlap and Caldwell are still out. So probably no go for them Friday. Quote

So probably no go for them Friday. That sucks, i so wanted to see Dunlap. I guess its best to hold him out since its just the first preseason game.Bernard Scott needs some playing time, he always seems to be hurt which sucks, would love to see more of him. I am hearing the Jay Finley is very impressive though so im excited to see him play. Quote

Even tonight on Sirus his was the only other RB besides Benson to be brought up, and how great he has looked. Catching the ball out of the backfield is a huge strength for Finley so keep your eye on him. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Anyone else notice Jason Shirley being back on the team and on the d-line ??Or was that something that happened long ago and I missed it ??I thought he was gone some time ago for some reason. Quote
Kazkal Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Last season he moved to the Dline but had a season ending injury shortly after,Never really liked the move to offensive line... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I thought he had been cut after the experiment on the o-line failed.Oh well... Quote
