What do you all think about this?

Anyone think leon hall would be a good FS?? Jonathan Joseph, when healthy of course.... Is our best corner no doubt. Leon hall is a great tackling, big playmaker and very solid all around, but can be vulnerable sometimes,.. With all of the talent we have at the CB postition (Pacman, Ghee and, even Wade has been ok) Why don't we start pac and move leon to FS causing us to only have to draft or pick up a SS perhaps in the third like TJ ward was. Or reggie nelson steps up some more and gets the job. Talk about a FAST secondary, I think hall would be an exceptional FS,.. Aeneas Williams type move

I for one am tired of changing peoples postions on this team. What they need to do is upgrade the pass rush, get some LBs that actully know how to play, and not play so slow, and actully draft a young good saftey who will be good for years to come. Hall needs to stay CB, dont change him.

I can't say its a BAD idea, but I think with proper safety support Leon is better as a CB than a FS.

Leon is not a "shut down" guy. He is an elite cover 2 player.

It is painfully obvious they need to overhaul the secondary, save Leon and Jonathan. There are some bright spots, like Adam Jones and Jonathan Wade (who has looked darn good). Trent and Ghee will be back, Murray could develop.

Crocker, Wilson, Ndukwe.... They could all hit the bricks.

Roy is working his way back into shape but when will he go down again.

Yeah i mean i realize we try to move ppl around too much, but i think it would help the team more than hurt it,.. brcause you get the best plaers on the field.I mean i just think with how good of a tackler and a ballhawk leon is, FS would benefit the team the most,.. Resign pac and JJo, and ghee who the coaches is a spitting image of jjo his rookie year in the slot,.. I like the thought, and FS dont have to be big,.. also I think roy retires after this season,.. he's hinted at it... but yeah,.. Thats what we have the draft or R nelson, idk too many good safeties in the 3rd round this year

(because i feel we need to draft lineman and a qb 2 & 1.

Sorry man, I laughed a little bit when I read about moving Leon Hall to FS. It's just ridiculous. You do not take one of the best CB's in the league and just move him to a Safety position, at least not while they're still young.

If you need a Free Safety....YOU DRAFT A FREE SAFETY....It's just that simple.

It is far more difficult to find a good CB than it is to find decent FS. Leon Hall is one hell of a CB, there's no denying that. The only thing you can really criticize is that he sometimes gets beat on deeper balls by faster WR's, but that stuff happens to everybody from time to time....The problem is, Leon doesn't have the luxuries some other CB's have (Revis for example), and that's decent safety help, and a good Pass Rush which prevents the opposing team from having the time to throw those passes.

Leon Hall is the best CB AND Best Defensive Player on this football team.

Besides, it's pointless to get into a discussion about a possible position switch when they don't even know who they will have at CB next year......JJoe's contract is up, Pac-Man was only a 1-year deal, and who knows how much damage is done to his neck? I have not seen 1 thing from Ghee that makes me think he will ever be more than a 4th or 5th CB, seriously.

Ive thought anout moving Hall to FS but thats because of our draft position and the possibility of Patrick Peterson from LSU. Hes actually the player I like the most in the draft but I couldnt justify taking him when we have JJoe and Leon Hall.

Peterson is the best CB to come out in years, and if we didn't have so many other holes to fill, I would be thrilled with that pick. I would even consider letting Joseph walk rather than pay him what he thinks he's worth when you never know how many games you'll get out of him....Joseph is injury prone, and I would feel uneasy giving him huge $$$. BUT, The Bengals have too many other positions that need to be addressed first.

I think Peterson has Champ Bailey written all over him

Random thoughts in no particular order....

Leon Hall has had a poor season and we saw glimpses of what was to come as early as preseason. Not sure what's needed to get him back on track since the best part of his game aren't his physical skills, but rather...his instincts.

Jonathan Joseph has become a better pure CB than Hall but IMHO always seems to break down physically due to demands placed on both players to support the run. FWIW I think both are better than average in run support, and Joseph can often be down right exceptional at it, but he breaks down nearly every season.

If forced to guess I'd say Hall needs to be part of a strong CB tandem more than most, and suffers whenever he's put in a position of being the top guy. He's far better than a simple Cover2 guy, but doesn't play as fast as his timed speed. Oddly enough, he can often handle many top WR's better than 2nd tier speed guys.

That said, I want no part of moving Hall to FS....mostly because I'm not part of the crowd that year after year refuses to embrace the idea of actually drafting a safety. Yeah, I know everybody says they'd consider it but when it comes time to pull the trigger most of us have pointed the gun somewhere else. As for me, I still want what I want and I'm more willing than most to pay the price.

However, this year will probably be no different as other team needs always seem to trump the need for a top safety prospect. In fact, regardless of who is coordinating the defense the Bengals mindset seems to have devalued the position to the point that so-called trash players are not only acceptable, but preferred. To that end, since Lewis arrived 8 years ago both safety positions have been staffed by a parade of late round draft picks, street FA's, failed CB's disquised as hybrids, and busts from other teams. Reggie Nelson fits the profile perfectly, placing Bengal fans in a position where any hope of an upgrade is linked to prayer.

Finally, when measured against their biggest division rivals there's probably no position on either side of the ball where the Bengals suffer from a greater disparity in talent than both safety positions.
