Benson

Unless they're getting rid of the franchise and/or transition tags, best to wait and see if you can get him to agree to a 2-3 year deal, or keep tagging him if he doesn't.

Signing Rb's this late in their career to anything longer is unwise typically (see Rudi Johnson). Ecspecially ones that run like Cedric (and Rudi) does/did.

Don't get too enamored with visions of Benson into the future. NFL RBs don't last long and they don't give you much warning when they do decline. I'm not too excited about giving him a longterm contract but I'm thrilled to have him this year

I agree there is a general life span for bell cow RB's but you gotta remember, Benson's mileage is not as high as someone like Alexander or Larry Johnson. He should have another 2 year on his tires.

Giving him a 3 year deal would be ideal.

Oddly enough, the 27 carries Benson got vs the Panthers gave him exactly 1,000 carries in his 6 year career...but he also logged 1,112 carries in his 4 years at Texas....So there is some mileage on those tires, and whether used heavily or sparingly, your body is different around age 30. Benson turns 28 in December, so I wouldn't give him any more than 2-years....Besides, Bernard Scott needs a chance, and Benson went on the radio B*tching about the "commitment to running" after getting 23 carries against Baltimore last week, and what did they do? Give him 27 this week, and Bernard Scott ONLY 2 Carries....He better not start this sh*t again...He did the same thing in Chicago (not wanting to share touches) with Thomas Jones, and that's why the Bears let Jones go to the Jets, and Ceddy screwed 'em......IT' S 2010...DAMN NEAR EVERY TEAM USES 2 BACKS....MAN THE F*CK UP AND STOP GOING ON THE RADIO SOUNDING LIKE A WHINY LITTLE B*TCH AFTER YOU GET 23 CARRIES....Oh yeah, while you're at it...why not try averaging more than 3.1 yards a carry after 3 games.

BERNARD SCOTT NEEDS AT LEAST 10 CARRIES A GAME!!!!!!

I like Benson, but will not be heartbroken if he leaves, and I DAMN SURE wouldn't pay him if it meant losing one of our CB's. I wouldn't offer him any more than 2 years $10 mill, and that's generous.

Good point. But if anyone thinks Ced is our franchise tag, they're crazy. There's no way we let Joseph walk.

If the Bengals don't make the playoffs, or go one and done, you can bet there will be some big money being offered to Benson and he will be on the way out.

Under the above scenario I think Benson leaving would be an afterthought when compared to the other changes that are sure to happen....especially on the offensive side of the ball.

You mean like the changes that took place after the 2006 season? or 2007?

Marvin doesn't have a contract.

Just saying...

He is part of this mess we are sending out there right now and he is getting the rock over 20 times a game. He deserves part of the blame. Mendenhall and Hillis seem like they make it happen with crappy offensive lines w/ the same amount of carries. I like to see more B. Scott because he is more allusive in the first half and use Benson as the hammer to finish the game. I'd also like to see more passes going to Shipley and Gresham instead of forcing them to Chad and TO.
