unsurprisingly, the Bengals rank near the bottom on the list. only three teams spend less money on player salaries this year. the Turds, Squealers and Ravens spend a whopping 20 million more than us. Mikey Brown sure shows through in these statistics... does anyone happen to remember what we spent last year?

by the way, the theoretical minimum salary cap this year would've been between 115 and 120 million. hey, that's a cool 15mil in MB's pocket :D

Ok, so are we b*tching about not spending enough ??

The thought of the Browns spending more than us and being so utterly pathetic as a whole is f*cking comical.

Seriously, I could continue to come back to this thread whenever I'm feeling down and I will feel better seeing that !!!

What a sorryass organization !!!

Anyway, anyone paying attention knows that the salary cap will most certainly come back into play when they agree to a new labor deal (which I expect) and in that regard, this benefits the Bengals GREATLY !!! Seriously, if at any time to want your team to spend less, THIS is the time. They won't have to cut any players next year due to spending more money just because this season was uncapped.

Even if the cap were to raise to 125 million, there would be 11 teams in real trouble. Some more than others.

Yeah, this year, I'm ok with that...

The only thing that might have made sense - and I'm not gonna go look up contract details to see if it was practical - would be to restructure deals to pay out more this year while minimizing future (presumably capped) years. That would be extremely risky, though, as you lose protection against injury and potential holdout.

Aside from that, we're left with the 'which FA would we have wanted?' issue. He made moves - the big offseason blunder wasn't the money spent, it was on whom (Bryant).

Actually, I'm more interested in figuring out how those other teams jumped their salaries so quickly, from complying with the cap last year to busting the bank this year.

Another thing to consider is if Andre Smith continues to unimpress everyone and they dump him.

That would free up even more money heading into a possibly capped season.

It would certainly make things interesting.

Then there are also the possible deals for both JJoe and Hall to consider even though they have another year for Hall.

I think all this points out (again) is that football ain't baseball. You can't buy a championship in the NFL. Skins and boys are what, 1-3 after two weeks? and that's 1/8th of the season.

As had been said a million times before, it isn't what you spend, it's how you spend it.

I could care less about how much they spend this season aslong as they freaking resign Jjoe,Hall,Bjohnson and cedben....Now if 3 of the 4 allowed to walk next season RAGE!

I hope they atleast wait until seasons end encase he is that special player because itsn ot like were missing out on some talent young guy by keeping him on the roster..hell were alrdy starting inferior players.

a lot of the high-spending teams shifted a lot of future money to this year, such as the Cowgirls giving Miles Austin a 17mil base salary this season. this means he'll only earn like 4-5mil per year over the rest of the deal and thus be a smaller hit on the future salary cap.

The only problem I see with the teams paying those guys a ton of money upfront is them conveniently forgetting the money was paid early and when looking at getting 4 million per year, they get pissed off, thinking they are underpaid and want to hold out for more. Perfect example ?? Revis is already talking about holding out in two more years. What a dick...

Pretty sure we saw the numbers for AFCN teams earlier...with Cleveland's total including roughly 40 million in dead money. The Ravens and Steelers each had half as much (20mil). At the time the Bengals were listed with less than 1 million in dead money....a figure sure to rise thanks to Bryant.

You bring up the question I had...does this figure include the hit for cutting Bryant?

Ah, so teams are taking that gamble. I'll laugh my ass off if he holds out when he's 'only' making $4M/yr.
