Why this might-just-work....

Why wouldn't Terrell Owens work in Cincy?

He's a freak athlete who hasn't lost a step, can still make all the cuts, and burns men 10 years younger than him like it was nothing.

Don't look at his last year in Buffalo like it was his fault.

He had former Bengal Ryan Fitzpatrick and damaged goods Trentative Checkwards throwing him the ball.

He had career loser Dick Jauron calling the shots.

And he was still the best, most consistent receiver on the team.

Now he's ass to ass with Ochocinco, Shipley, Caldwell, Jones, etc, underneath. Which means Palmer should be drooling.

+1! Dude CJ spiller is a freakin beast man,..

CJ Spiller has been scary good this preseason.

I feel like he can be an every down back even though that wasn't his rep coming into the bigs.

I wouldn't be surprised if he vaults into the 2nd round of some fantasy drafts after Saturday's showing.

He went last pick in the 4th round in our 14 team draft.

Question: Does Chad produce more or less yardage this season playing in a more balanced passing attack?

Its a hard question.

Yeah, it sure is. FWIW Carson was interviewed by Dan Patrick this morning and claimed Bryant was squeeezed out by numbers, that he was making progress but not fast enough to contribute early. As a result any attempt to keep him this season would have cost the Bengals one of their younger players. Personally, I'm not buying it and will assume instead that Bryant's injury is indeed bone on bone, as rumored, and won't sufficiently improve ever.

Anyways, after the interview ended Patrick and his prroducer debated which Bengal receiver would lead the team in receptions this season. Dan went with Gresham. Paulie went with Owens. Both agreed Chad's numbers would fall, but only slightly...due to the need to keep Chad happy.

Of course Chad is only thrown at to try and keep him happy. Im sure that's why Carson threw to him in the back of the endzone for a TD on Saturday.

I know Chad puts the crosshairs on himself. But I hate how the talking heads try and be funny. Its not just Chad, its the Bengals..always used as a punchline. Do they really think the Bengals throw to Chad to keep him happy? They really used that belief to make a REAL prediction?

Completely invalidates anything they say for me.

But its Dan Patrick - Humor first...

Fwiw, Carson guessed that Chad would have the most catches when DP asked him that question, based on the position he plays and the primary importance of his "X" receiver spot in the Cincy's offense.

True enough, but each of those things were true when a Chad in his prime WASN'T leading the team in receptions year after year.

Here's the thing that is being missed in this conversation. Dan was practically salivating over the things Palmer can do with a TE like Gresham. Meanwhile, Paulie was gushing over Owens still being the best possession receiver in the NFL....calling him a perfect replacement for the departed Housh. And he tossed in a couple of Shipley gushes to boot, didn't he?

IMHO they weren't slagging Chad so much as they were getting weepy in the pants over the things everyone else can do in this offense. And that brings me right back to the question I asked only a few days earlier. Does Chad's production increase or fall playing in a more balanced/better offense? Amazingly, just like that I get a couple of national media gushers who think Chad's production will indeed decline slightly....but mostly for very good and positive reasons. And yeah, maybe a little bit because Chad's a manchild who needs constant stroking and petting. But as others have said, Chad put that crosshair on himself. In fact, he calls it branding.

Palmer will average more than 2 tds per game.

Could be. I doubt it though, not even Peyton Manning has achieved that very many times (33 in 2009, 49 in 2004, and 33 in 2000). Palmer barely made it to 2.0 per game even in 2005. 27 TDs is still a ton, even in this pass-happy era. If he can put together a couple of games against the scrubs on the schedule with four - six TDs, then maybe it could be more realistic.
