DC_Bengals_Fan
If Mike were to have the insight to recognize what a desirable thing it is to drown puppies, then had the unselfish courage to go ahead and do it (or even just throw the bag down in his driveway and back the Lumina over it), you're damn right I'd applaud him for it. The word "hero" comes to mind. Wow, Hair, it looks like you're going to have to actually interview for that position of Bengals Messageboard PR Director. Still unpaid, but some other candidates are really stepping up.

HairOnFire
He was their centerpiece FA signing. The dollars dictate that. The dollars he was paid are only an indication of the open market value of the position he played. In fact, veteran WR's of comparable stature routinely command the type of contract Bryant signed. As further proof, all of the FA options you say you preferred signed for more than Bryant, including one whose face was just reconstructed, and another whose actions in a nightclub scuffle prompted the murder of a teammate. You're right about one thing - Bryant became the new Coles. $7M lit on fire. Don't stop there. Add in the cost of Owens too. And don't forget the cost, monetary and spiritual, of keeping Chad Ocho Loco. Plus, you'll need to factor in the cost of draft picks churned and burned over the years. Simply put, if you're going to second guess the incredible cost spent on this teams passing game then go big or stay home. Please, make a case as to why you'd rather have Bryant over Boldin for comparable money. Just because I'm generous, let's even pretend Bryant's not injured. Well, I don't think it would have been comparable money if the Bengals would have seriously bid for his services. Baltimore was in greater need of a check-down possession WR than the Bengals, and paid generously even though there was no serious second bidder for Boldin's services. Change that and the price for Boldin goes up further still. In addition, Boldin lacks the speed and quickness the Bengals were said to have coveted more than anything. Finally, the role Boldin would have played with the Bengals has greater overlap with the things they were able to get in the draft by targeting a TE and a slot WR. A healthy Bryant would have offered them more speed on the outside than Boldin, or for that matter...Owens.Sure, I'm always magnanimous enough to give every retard his day. Mikey realized that this is Our Year and busted out the checkbook. A very good decision, sarcasm turned off. I'm not sure a truly magnanimous person would demand everything attempted works as planned.....especially when you admit how you're not all that unhappy with the end results.(Owens)

membengal
I still don't get the weeping for Mike Brown's lost millions. What the f**k do any of us care? It was an uncapped year. All it means is Mike Brown is out $7 million dollars. Why does that bother anyone? It's not our money. Is it because it messes with the Mike Brown is cheap meme?
