Note to Carson

Carson Palmer, not sure if you read these messages or not but I wanted to send a quick note to you. This is our year and you’re the commander of that offense. If you fail to perform, we lose! There are no excuses for failure this year. You have a new and motivated TE! You have a guy in TO who can go deep and spread the field! Chad is still a huge threat. Shipley is going to be our version of Wes Welker. We got some of the best running back in the league. The o line is more experienced this year. So no more excuses for three and out. We’re tired of hearing that you have to knock the rust off. You make more money in one quarter then most of the fans make in a year. You’re a professional athlete who’s been running that offense for years. All that we ask is that you dig deep within yourself and bring out the Carson of old. The Carson before the broken leg. The Carson that was hungry! Take charge of your unit. Find away to motivate them. Find a way to have them execute the plays to perfection. We understand that you’re not going to score on every possession, but we’re tired of the numerous three and outs, and penalties that set us back. We want to see the unit play with some urgency when we have the ball with three minutes left in the quarter. Guys should not be walking to the formation or to the line of scrimmage. We want to see them fired up, jogging to the line of scrimmage and firing off the ball. Need you scanning the field. Last night you had a WR not being covered on more than one occasion and you went to the other side of the field. Utilize your assets wisely. Carson, you’re our QB, and the team and fans are behind you. You’re a Cincinnati Bengal! Go out and get us that Super Bowl trophy. You’ve talked year after year on how the team has improved. Now is the time to walk the walk! Get the job done!! Who Dey..

Carson definitely doesn't read Bengalszone; he probably hasn't even heard of it.

But why not.

I don't blame you for the Bengals' failures in recent seasons. In 2006, you were an elite player who had absolutely nothing to do with the Bengals' missing the playoffs. In 2007 you had an unsurprising down season alongside a running game which wasn't running anywhere, but you were still very productive. In 2008, you had no control over anything, and the offensive line was so horrific that you playing the entire year would've been miraculous. In 2009, despite criticism from every which way, you led the team to the playoffs by the strength of fourth quarter heroics that left all of us twitching with spasmodic pleasure.

I think you're just fine, buddy.

Ok i might take some heat for this, and trust me im not bashing Carson. I am so rooting for him because i like him as a player and think he is very good, with that said for the past couple of years i have noticed his accuracy fading. If you watch him throw alot of his balls are floating high, im not really sure why that is. Im not sure if he is worried about the o-line not protecting him or what.

Another thing that bothers me is he and Chad have been working toghter for a couple years, how are those to not on the same page yet, he seems more comfortable with TO then Chad. It seems like he tries to force balls into Chad when other guys are open, and i dont know if that because he is trying to keep him happy or what. I just wish he wouldnt force a pass when its not there.

However i did love that long pass he threw to TO now that was very accurate, so i know he still has it in him i hope these next couple of games he will get it back toghter like i know he can. Like i said im not bashing Carson because he is still one of my favorite players i just want to see him win, and see the old Carson back!

The thing I don't get about Chad is the constant mid-air flailing. I don't know if that's for show, or if he's worried about getting drilled or what. I don't see anyone else on this team or elsewhere do that either. Granted he does make some crazy catches while doing it but he also has his share of drops too and it makes him look completely out of control. And I really don't remember him doing that during his early years.

Yea i agree and maybe he makes Palmers throws look higher then what they are. Right now i dont think Chad is on top of his game. He and Palmer just dont seem to be on the same page which dosnt make sense. Palmer and TO seem to be just fine thus far! I just hope he dosnt feel the need to force it Chad this season or else we will have those stupid turnovers.

I like his calm demeanor but there still seems to be a level of apprehension about his approach at times. In 2004 when the expectations were none, he was slinging all over the field.

I still remember the game against the Ravens in Baltimore when the Bengals were down 20-3 in the 4th quarter. 20 unanswered points and he destroyed the Ravens secondary to win 23-20. By some miracle the game was being shown on the Armed Forced Network and I watched in Iraq and was cheering and yelling in our battalion TOC to the point that I had to be told to shut up.

Palmer, you still have that ability and damnit this is the year to get some of that magic back.

That's been an issue for a while. Balls sail high when the QB doesn't step into his throw. Now why might Carson be a little tentative with that plant leg?

It's been 5 years, but I wonder if that injury hasn't permanently changed his mechanics.

67.4% for the preseason, 71 percent vs. Denver and Philly, whose defense's are good btw. His accuracy is fine, it was bad in the playoff game last year but career wise he's completed roughly 63 percent of his passes, which is excellent.

Ppl over analyze Carson cuz the Bengals are the only team they watch week in and week out. But if you pay attention, you'll notice that all NFL receivers have to make adjustments to the ball, I don't care who's throwing it, Brees, Manning, whoever, not one QB in the league don't need their receivers to make plays for them. The good ones like Carson have some throws that are flat out perfect like the deep one to TO last night, but usually the receiver has to make some sort of play on the ball for there to be a completion. If that were not the case, good receivers would not be the high commodity they are in this league. Overall, if a QB completes his passes at the percentage Carson has and still does it can only mean one thing. His accuracy is among the best in the league, this is a fact that the numbers support completely.

I really only checked it out because i heard yesterday on Sirus Nfl radio that one of the guys said that Carsons accuracy is not very good, he said if this team loses its because of Carson and the accuracy. He said this team will be 8-8 because of that also, but the defense might get them to 10 wins. Now i dont think Carson is that bad, but i hope he can fix those balls that sail high. That deep ball he threw was spot on which was great so i know he still has the accuracy.

Talking heads are just that.

This team made the playoffs last year because of the defense and the run game.

All of a sudden, now if Carson doesn't have a great year they regress?

So you are subscribing to the Peter King bandwagon? 23rd best team in the NFL?

His hand is fixed, now he can play action.

His WR/TE talent has increased exponentially.

He was super accurate against Philly.

He is typically a very accurate QB.

All indications are this team progressed - not the opposite.

Have faith - Dont let people that get paid to start controversy and that spend 8 minutes analyzing a team for a 3 minute segment has a clue what they are talking about.

Ive watched PAlmer play for years, and yes he has his moments where he doesnt succeed but I for one am very excited for what he will do this year and am considering him for my FFL team.

I can understand concerns about his accuracy suffering to a degree, but I do hope we're through with the silly worries about his arm strength being something below average. Throughout the season last year people complained about his sideline throws fluttering weakly (despite numerous completions) and his deep balls falling short. He can still squeeze the football into tight windows, even if sometimes he shouldn't.

I simply think he's going to have a career type of season.

I think so too, but he still probably won't put up the numbers we saw in '05 and '06. The Bengals will likely try to repeat last year's success in the ball-control offense, so the passing yardage and touchdowns aren't likely to pile up at any torrent pace.
