jjakq27 Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 The Bengals...prepared to head to Dayton for Sunday's practice at Welcome Stadium. Line of the trip so far was tweeted by wide receiver Chad Ochcinco on the ride up: "I wish I had a helicopter. I'm in my full uniform on the bus like I'm going to a pop warner game." But then he tweeted a picture of the full stands with "Cool." A crowd of about 14,000 jammed the facility on the University of Dayton campus and while head coach Marvin Lewis was surprised to hear that some people spent overnight in line to get tickets, he said the crowd "is what our people expected." On the drive up to Dayton, Bengals president Mike Brown got a chance to tell son Paul that the Dayton market has always played a prominent role in club history. So prominent that one of the options when the Bengals were looking to build Riverfront Stadium was a spot between Dayton and Cincinnati. When he showed up Sunday he was pleased enough with the crowd that the option of returning for another practice next year is going to be discussed. “It makes us pleased that we’ve done it this year,” Brown said on the sidelines during practice. “We’ll sure want to think about doing it again in the future.” As he left under heavy guard after an on-field autograph session, wide receiver Terrell Owns liked the show and this guy likes shows. “(14,000) thousand,” Owens said. “You can’t ask for much more than that.”http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Bengals-could-be-back-in-Dayton-White-rejoins-Bengals/5020ad62-dde7-4f6a-af17-50bb14e5e3c0 Quote
Stripes Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Were I still in Dayton I'd definitely be there. Quote
jjakq27 Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 I think this is a brilliant PR move by the team. Since they moved training camp from Wilmington to Georgetown, KY, I've wondered what the impact to the area fan base would be. Plus I know some folks in the Dayton and Oxford areas that have latched on to the Steelers because of Ben R not to mention the Browns factor is always out there too. Good to see them pack em in at Welcome Stadium today. Quote

That's a damn shame...Dayton has always had a big brother/little brother complex with Cincinnati. There were always as many Browns fans in Dayton as Bengals fans so adding a few Steeler fans to the mix probably won't make much of a difference. Dayton has its own share of problems with double digit unemployment. Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 The Bengals PR should be jumping on this chance to create some new Bengals fans. The Browns have been bad since they returned to the NFL and the Stealers QB has given them a black eye. It is nice to see them try to open up the Dayton area fan base. I would love to see them do some more PR activities in the northern parts of the state. They played at BGSU's Doyt L. Perry Stadium early in the Paul Brown era, that would be a great event if they ever came back. Quote

jjakq27 Posted August 24, 2010 Author Report Posted August 24, 2010 While in Dayton, the Bengals had a special session with a young boy with some medical issues./>http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20100823/NEWS01/308230096/A-Bengals-day-to-remember- Quote
