jjakq27
In an effort to bring some positivity to this forum, I am stealing a just-posted story from the Bengals and throwing out the topic of Top 10 Memories at PBS. This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the stadium.Just a few off the top of my head.1. Peter Warrick and the Chiefs game in 20032. Rudi Johnson taking over for Corey Dillon and getting 200+ yards late in the 2003 season (49ers?)3. The first Sunday Night Game vs Miami in 2004-home debut of Carson Palmer4. Beating Pittsburgh at home last year5. The Browns game in 2004 (58-48)6a. The Steelers Playoff game in 2005 (until Palmer got hurt)6b. Carson making it back in 2006 to start the season after the knee injury in the playoff7. The Jets Playoff game last year8. The Brett Favre stolen ball game in 20059. Danny Farmer's TD catch vs the Steelers in 2001. Bengals win in OT after Neil Rackers misses the PAT to win in regulation.10. Scott Mitchell's come-from-behind win vs. the Jags in an extremely cold day where they had to spray paint the lines in orange on the field since it snowed the night before./>http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Decade-of-memories/6eb59056-047d-4c03-b75b-a0db80a42bab
Stripes
I'm proud of the playoff appearances, but the results make me want to leave them off.1. Chiefs, 2003. If you want a single game to pinpoint when the Bungles truly died, there you go.2. Steelers, 2009. A team coming off of a horrible season that hadn't beaten Pittsburgh at home in eight years finally gets in done in the final seconds after grinding the clock brilliantly. I'll never forget Leonard's 11 yard gain on 4th and 10.3. Broncos, 2004. First Monday Night Football game in over a decade, and the Bengals smear the favored Broncos. The artist formerly known as Chad Johnson repeatedly makes Champ Bailey his bitch.4. Vikings, 2005. The Bengals completely dominated the Vikings in every phase of the game, and confirmed for me that the 2005 team really could be as good as I hoped and expected.5. Ravens, 2007. Baltimore was coming off of a 13-3 year and was expected to cruise through Cincinnati with a win on opening night. The Bengals won a tough defensive game with the help of a bunch of Steve McNair errors.6. Browns, 2007. Cleveland was on the cusp of making the playoffs out of nowhere, and the Bengals took that away.7. Ravens, 2009. The Bengals easily complete the sweep over Baltimore and Benson rips them up for 100+ yards a second time.8. Browns, 2004. The second highest scoring game in NFL history is sealed as a Bengals win on a defensive touchdown.9. Panthers, 2006. The Bengals rebound from the Justin Smith roughing the passer debacle against the 0-3 Bucs with a gritty win. This was the game where Bratkowski made us all proud with the gutsy/stupid call on 4th and 1 to get Chad open deep down the sideline for a pass.10. Browns, 2009. Avoiding the heartbreaker we all feared, the Bengals finished the sweep of the entire AFC North.Cool thread, jjakq. This all made me realize how many of my truly favorite Bengals moments the last decade have occurred on the road. The Schobel touchdown to beat Pittsburgh in 2003. The comeback over Baltimore in 2004. Taking the division from Pittsburgh by force in 2005. Doing it again in 2009.
ArmyBengal
I'll take it in another direction and call it "My top moment" in PBS Stadium. This might sound funny, but bear with me...I came home from Afghanistan on mid-tour leave and Mrs. ArmyBengal surprised me with tickets to the Monday night game against the Pats in 2007. That was the season they went undefeated and even though the Bengals lost the game and Carson and Chad were falling apart, I had an absolute blast. Our tickets were on about the 40 yard line about 12 rows up from the field on the home side. I was in heaven being that close to the team and the only thing that would have made that better, would have been the win, but to go from thinking I was going to watch the game at the house or at a bar to being right there was great. One of the highlights of my mid-tour leave. There are other moments I've had there that have been great, but I will always remember that one.Keeping in line with the original thought, I'll go with #1 and Peter Warrick and the Chiefs game.ABSOF*CKINGLUTELY AMAZING !!! jjakq27
Cool thread, jjakq. The comeback over Baltimore in 2004. Taking the division from Pittsburgh by force in 2005. Doing it again in 2009.Thanks TBD.I forgot a couple more after reading the Bengals' top 10 and the others on here. The game against Indy here in 2005.The fevered pace of the first half was amazing. It felt like we were at the center of the football universe that day. For me that was the high point of the season even though we clinched a few weeks later and had the playoff game. We went toe-to-toe with arguably the best team that year. The Patriots MNF game here in 2007.It buildup to the game was nuts. It was right after the Spygate story broke. Of course the Chad-Carson mini-implosion ruined the night but once again we were the focus of the NFL for a week again. The Broncos MNF game in 2004.Chad did own Bailey but my memory is Justin Smith having one of his better games as a Bengal. And something to consider is that this team and franchise is light years ahead of where we were in 2000. It's not perfect but we know it's been worse. I came home from Afghanistan on mid-tour leave and Mrs. ArmyBengal surprised me with tickets to the Monday night game against the Pats....There are other moments I've had there that have been great, but I will always remember that one.And Army..it goes without saying, thanks for your service and sacrifice. I have truly enjoyed watching the servicemen open that giant US flag on the field and getting some much deserved recognition from the fans. The various color guards and Star Spangled Banner are also something that many fans at the stadium and at home miss out on a weekly basis which is a shame. The flyovers are always a moving moment for me as well. The re-start Sunday after 9/11/01 was especially poignant and emotional.
gregstephens
Mine have already been cited here. The Broncos MNF game--I was there three rows from top in endzone with my boy. That was great. The Packers stolen ball--also there with my boy. And the Vikings game where we picked off Culpepper I believe 5 times in 2005--also there with my boy. Was there for that game vs Cleveland where the two teams scored a jillion points--with my son. Was there for tor the opening game at PBS 2 days before 9/11--with, eh you get it.Some commonality of themes actually.
ArmyBengal
I get you Greg, because all of my actual favorite Bengals games of all time were with my Dad when they played at Riverfront. The Freezer Bowl tops them all, but yeah, I get it. Super Bowl XVI with my Dad in Pontiac was awesome as well.
Dan2330
I am amazed at just how many great Bengal games I have made it to over the years considering I live in Chicago and only get a chance to go to one or two games a season. Here are some of mine from games I was at:1- Denver on MNF- Kind of a 'hey football fans' Cincy is back on the map kind of team. Seats were in the end zone and we watched as Chad torched Champ all night long most of the big plays right in front of us2- Brett Favre handoff- First row upper deck out of corner of my eye I saw the fan run onto the field, we thought at first someone called a timeout and then see Favre just give the ball to this guy. From what I recall it was a close game and Packers were driving to take a lead late in the game. I think that dude scared Brett or something cause the drive ended right after that3- Steelers Wild Card Game- Great build up to this game, loved the opening with the fly over, all was good up until the Carson play, seats in upper deck 20 yard line.4- Bears Thumping last year- Had to listen to all the talk from my friends on the drive down about how the Bears and Cutler were going to kick the s**t out of the Bengals, these same yahoo's were ready to leave at halftime of the game
derekshank
I haven't been to a ton of Bengals games. I work a lot of weekends and for several years I lived out of state. But I was at the pre-season game in 2006 that marked Carson Palmer's come back from injury. The main thing I can say about that game is that it was the loudest sporting event I have ever attended. I admit I have a limited frame of reference... but I've been to a handful of Buckeye games with over 100,000 people and I was at the playoff game last January. The preseason game was the only game I've been to where it was virtually impossible to talk to the person next to me because of the volume. When Palmer scrambled and then ran for 11 yards, there was a brief lull as many fans became mute for fear that he was overdoing it. Then when he safely slid and hopped back up to the huddle, the crowd erupted so to the point that my ears were in pain... despite much of my youth being spent at rock concerts. It's strange to say that a preseason game was one of the top ten moments in PBS history... but that truly was a unique setting where an entire fanbase simultaneously believed that their star QB was going to be ok. Wasn't that the play that prompted one of the television announcers to compare Palmer's scramble to.... "a bag of laundry being thrown down a flight of stairs"
