Dadraftnick
I couldnt believe that the Jets got rid of this guy.More than anyone he was the Jets running game.He has caused Bengals coaches nightmares for years.I would love to see us pick the guy up , we do need better play at G. I know that there is no way Mike Brown will pay this guy big money but, I can dream.Cutting some dead weight like Geathers could help pay for it.Left guard Alan Faneca, a nine-time Pro Bowler, was cut a day after Gang Green picked Vladimir Ducasse in the second round of the NFL draft.Ducasse, a 6-4, 332-pound lineman out of the University of Massachusetts, will compete with Matt Slauson for Faneca's old starting job, Rex Ryan announced yesterday.A Haitian immigrant, Ducasse had never seen a football game until 2003 when he moved to Stamford, Conn., where his high school football coach had to teach him how to put on shoulder pads. The Jets boasted the league's best rushing offense last season and Ryan often bragged about the offensive line, but the coach offered a simple explanation for shaking up the unit."We're getting better, that's why we made the move," he said. "We never would have let Alan go if we didn't think that one of those guys could do the job."Faneca, who started every game during his two seasons with the Jets, had been on the trading block leading into the draft, an NFL general manager told the Daily News last week, but there were no suitors because of his high salary."Alan's definitely going to play in this league again," Ryan said. "I have no idea where, but by releasing him now, it gives Alan an opportunity to go where he quite honestly wants to go. We're not looking to trade him and send him to a place where he doesn't want to play."Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2010/04/24/2010-04-24_jets_release_veteran_pro_bowl_guard_faneca.html#ixzz0m7LNXrT9Yes I know he's 34 but, maybe we could get him at bargain basement prices.Besides we have seen some O-linemen play for 20 years. AMC
No thanks. Thinking you can get Faneca for bargain prices? He was released from the Jets for not accepting a pay cut. He is looking for his last big deal before he retires. Doesn't fit their plans for the o-line (youth and versatility).
cincyhokie
I'd like to have him but there's no way the Bengals are going to lock up that much money (him and Bobbie) for two 34 year old guards.
COB
He gave up 6 and a half sacks last year as an interior lineman. That's a lot, and he should take that paycut.

I didn't know that. And that was with the best C in the NFL to the right of him, and one of the best LTs in the NFL to the left of him.Yeah... Mathis is looking better all the time. kingwilly
I just read the jets owe him almost $5.25M for this upcoming season My link, and that he will sign for league minimum somewhere. Why not here?Part of why he gave up some sacks is Sanchez does not know how to get rid of the ball yet.As a matter of leadership and tutoring our young line, they could do quite a bit worse. walzav29
He does bring an element if nastiness to the O-line. This to me is the 1st bad move the Jets have made this offseason, and will hurt the, I'd love to see Cincy sign him.
DC_Bengals_Fan
Pros: very familiar with our biggest inter- and intra-division rivals (Steelers and Jets), who we play 3 times this year. Offensive linemen can still have a bit in the tank at 34. Probably danged motivated.Cons: Might not be as good as he was 3-4 years ago. Might cost a bit. Will also stunt the development of younger linemen for a stop-gap solution.I'd take a look. It's also worth considering what our 'window' is. Particularly with Chad getting older, if they want to try to make a push for the next two years, they could do worse. As always, depends on money. But if revenge is in his plans, going to Cinci would be probably better than anywhere else, so we might not have to pay the 'Bengals Tax' to get a decent FA here.
