Look for the Bengals to get at least two compensatory picks Monday. Even though the Laveranues Coles and T.J. Houshmandzadeh signings should offset each other, Stacy Andrews left for a big enough deal that could give the Bengals a third-rounder. And with Ryan Fitzpatrick starting eight games in Buffalo, is that enough for a fourth-rounder? HappyWave.gif

A 3rd for Andrews? I'm glad the formula does not take into account recent injuries, etc. Though the contract he signed should have taken that into account. Thank you Andy Reid.

This is why I'm waiting to do another mock draft. It will obviously change things greatly knowing we get two comp picks and knowing where they are.

C'MON 3rd and 4th !!!

Betcha one of those (probably the latter) is used on a Kicker.

Nice with extra 3rd & 4th wouldn't be so bad using a 3rd to trade up now...

I hope we take kicker at some point but Mr Brown seems comfortable with handing Rayner the job I hope hes smoke screening but... :P

PS,Hobson said TJ cancels out Coles but I thought someone said they didn't of years played.

I was thinking they would use a pick on a kicker anyway and seeing as how none of them are rated that high, a 6th should do it.

My guess (only because they always do it) is they will keep all of their picks. To be honest, with the depth those picks would provide, I would almost prefer they do keep them unless there is someone that fills a need and falls to a certain point to make it reasonable.

1 first

1 second

2 thirds

2 fourths

Equals a bunch of holes filled with decent picks. S, WR, OG, DE, TE, DT, while snagging a nickel corner in the 5th and a kicker in the 6th.

Yeah, that would make me pretty happy indeed and still have another pick in the 7th to grab someone else to bring to camp.

Boy, I hope this happens !!!

Here's a thought. Since they'll have 9 draft picks, and most likely won't have 9 open roster spots, I say try to do something dramatic like trade a 3rd and 4th (our original, because you are not allowed to trade compensatory picks) for say a 2nd and 5th or 6th ? and see if someone bites. That way we can get 3 picks in the top 64, the latter picks would just be used for depth anyways (and might not even make the roster). This might give us a better chance to land more impact players.

The only problem is.......You need a GM to pull off deals like this, and we have (gasp) Mikey Boy.

I do think this will be the year we do some moving in the draft, but I think it will be us trading late round picks to move up in the mid rounds to grab players that fall that the coaches really covet. We'll stay put in the first couple rounds.

to me this allows them to go with BPA on the first pick no matter who falls in their lap, there's about a dozen good safeties in this loaded draft, so in the 3rd round you can draft 2 solid safeties better than Ndukwe, in the 4th grab 2 guards, it just opens up so many ways to go just as long as they dont reach for anyone

Do you think we'll get something for Opie next year or will Bryant off set that?

ya but if a safeties is the BPA ^_^ "FINGERS CROSSED"

doubtful :P we get anything next year, which is cool by me we added a high priced FA the year we weren't losing players so we weren't gonna get nothing for comp picks in 2011 anyways.

Oh yeah, I meant the 1st 3rd round comp and the only 4th round comp. I had it backwards...

History isn't on the side of trading up and giving up picks, but there's always the chance. I agree with later picks to move up into maybe the 3rd or 4th though.

Well if you can find the right deal may not be so bad,Didn't jets give up a 3rd and a couple scrubs to move from low teens to number 5#?

That's always the deal... You have to be able to find a willing participant. I really like the thought of what this team can do with 6 picks in the first 4 rounds. They can really fill some holes and maybe even take a chance that is a boom bust type of player. If you want a name, may I give you, Arthur Moats, DE, James Madison. Once again though, I wouldn't mind much of anything they do seeing as how the roster is much improved and they aren't looking for starters in their first 4 picks.

I don't really see the Bengals even trying to trade up. They don't often seem to fall in love with any one player enough to give anything up to get them.

That said... If a 1st round talent falls to the 2nd round like Maualuga did, in that scenario I'd love to see the Bengals show NADS and package their 2nd, 3rd, and a 5th or 6th to get an early 2nd round pick.

Other than a scenario like that, trading up is probably a waste.

Do they break down which players yielded comp picks or not? Interesting that we got a better pick than the Titans did for losing Haynesworth

The Browns could have stayed at #5 and gotten their franchise QB in Sanchez. Instead they got these players in return:

Kenyon Coleman, Brett Ratliff, Abram Elam, and David Veikune.

Wow. Just wow.

I'll throw another name out there. G Marshall Newhouse TCU 6'4" 319lbs. 3 year starter at Tackle, but projected to be a Guard in NFL. Had a great week at the East-West Shrine game, and was very quick for his size at the combine (5.0 40-yd dash). Currently projected somewhere in the 4th Rd, but maybe we can use the 3rd Rd compensatory pick on him (at the very end of the 3rd). If they don't address the O-Line sooner, i think this kid will be a player, and they can spend their first 3 picks on other positions.
