HairOnFire
Carlon Mitchell remains my hope if we're talking WR still in the third round. Mike Williams is also interesting, and I'm growing on Marcus Easley, although he scares the hell out of me. Mitchell had been off my radar until this weekend, but yeah....he looks like a guy who could not only step in and immediately fill Chris Henry's drastically overrated decoy role, but also...eventually develope into an actual upgrade. And most importantly, he won't cost an early pick.

He's a measurables guy with decent production in college, and they're saying today he'll run in the high 4.3s at his Pro Day. In that case, he probably won't be there by the time we pick in the 3rd and he has a chance to sneak into the 2nd for a team that is desperate for a field-stretching WR...like the Bengals.I loved Chris Henry as a Bengal, but this guy has the chance to be even better, with the exact same skillset. I think he's more explosive in the RAC department than Chris was, but Chris probably had better ball skills. Here's a good look at Carlton Mitchell:/>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7VAx4di8D4
HairOnFire
Where did I or Marvin say a rookie selected in the draft is anything? All he and I said is that Jerome ain't. Solution is to be determined, FA, trade, draft or otherwise. Again, that's bulls**t. Because Marvin Lewis most certainly isn't saying Jerome isn't the answer. Rather, he's said repeatedly that Simpson can still be the deep threat he was drafted to be. We have nothing to show for it? Well, that sort of points out why we need to go to the well again, right? Aren't you the same guy who has repeatedly claimed the very definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results?Arguing that we shouldn't take a WR early in April is sort of like arguing that we shouldn't have taken Rivers and Maualuga because we drafted Pollack and Odell with high picks in '05. Reality is a bitch, aint' it? Reality may indeed be a bitch, but that hardly makes your point. After all, Rivers and Maualuga were drafted only after Pollack and Odell were off the roster. In fact, Maualuga was only drafted after the Bengals 3rd round hedge bet, Ahmad Brooks, had played his way out of town. Meanwhile, Simpson, Caldwell, and Coffman are all not only still on the roster, but each is being shown support by the head coach. Why are you so worried that the D and running game they spent the last few years building are so fragile? To my knowledge I haven't expressed any worries about the current state of the Bengals running game. As for the fragile status of the Bengal defense, a quick recall of how it crumbled late in the season, and every year prior, should be enough to make my point for me. I said Marvin wanted to get a vertical passing game and more chunks. He can get that in more ways than the draft. And he might be able to get what he wants from a player already on the roster, right? Or he may find what he needs in FA. Regardless, both options are things he's spoken about directly, both options are strategies Memphis and I openly support, and bringing things full circle...both are options you repeatedly downplay whenever they're mentioned. So, here we are. Again. As if it's the spring of '08 all over.
