HAPPYJAQ
ESPN is scrolling a bottom line stat that includes the Jet's winning 5 of 6. Consider this:Week 12 - Jets over Panthers, 17-6Week 13 - Jets over Buffalo, 19-13Week 14 - Jets over Tampa Bay, 37-3Week 15 - Jets over Indy, 29-15Week 16 - Jets over Cincy, 37-0Out of those games, the only team who was playing for any post-season consideration at the time was Atlanta, who beat them at home 10-7. This team is a .500 squad, at best. If you really look at their schedule closely, the only impressive victory were against the Patriots, in a game in which Welker was inactive and Moss effectively quit, and they STILL almost lost (Week 2). They have wins against:Houston (Week 1, Decent win, but Week 1 is almost like the 5th game of the preseason, ask the Bengals)New England (Week 2, Brady's second game after missing almost all of last season)Tennessee (Week 3, Kerry Collins started and played terrible on the road)Oakland (Week 7, versus Jamarcus Russell, who is Akili v. 2.0)Carolina (Week 12, Following 3 straight losses they meet Jeff Delhomme, who is Marc Bulger v. 2.0 with 4 INTs in the game)Buffalo (Week 13, Ryan Fitzpatrick in Canada, nuff said)Tampa Bay (Week 14; Rookie QB Josh Freeman 14-33 on the road for 93 yards in the loss)Indy and Cincy (Weeks 16 and 17, where both teams rested their starters)The New York Jets could easily be 6-10, without an incredibly soft schedule. It's crazy that Rex sees this team as the AFC favorite for the SB.

BengalByTheBay
Maybe. Devil's advocating, however, I would say that it really depends on how you view the effect of "momentum" into the playoffs. I believe that's the driver of all of the support for the Jets (well, that and the fact that NY is the biggest media market) going into this game. If you just look at quality of opponent and the year as a whole, the Bengals should be fairly large favorites. If you look at the last few weeks, not just for the Jets, but for the Bengals as well, you see the Bengals' offense struggling pretty mightily. There are explanations for it (Minn., then SD on the road didn't line up as easy games, for example), but there's no real good explanation for the Bengals taking the full 4 quarters to put away the lowly Chiefs. And while the Jets wins have a definite asterisk or two down the stretch, you can say they went out and won them anyway. So, it all boils down to which team gets it up for this game. IMO if the Bengals play to their ability they win the game -- possibly rather handily -- and remind the public why the Jets had a must win last week to begin with. But you can't really blame Jets fans for perpetuating a little "team of destiny" fantasy at this point.

More often than not, the Bengals needed to make a statement or get a win, they got it. @Green Bay Win 31-24Pittsburgh Win 23-20@Baltimore Win 17-14Baltimore Win 17-7@Pittsburgh Win 18-12@San Diego Loss 27-24That's 6 HUGE games. HairOnFire
But you can't really blame Jets fans for perpetuating a little "team of destiny" fantasy at this point. Well, it has to be a team of destiny, right? After all, their own head coach claimed they were officially eliminated from playoff contention, and then suddenly they weren't. Strange forces are at work here.
Kazkal
Overrated? Well how some people are slombing on their Nuts yes...But Overall No they aren't...Rex Ryan has done a Superb Job on turning their defense around they were top 3 in almost every catagory if I'm not mistaken on top of having a top notch Rushing attack...Only thing I find annoying is people seem to ignore about Starters Bengals were resting on top of vanilla game plan and act like jets are gonna blow us out again...Yes they could win but I just see Very low scoring close game. Nobody thought we'd play that well against what was supposed to be one of the top defenses in the entire league, in the Bears game. With Peko, Geathers and Crocker all in (and at home), I would expect a much-improved run defense. I think the loss of Rey hurts some, but we must remember that Jeanty saw his first extended action of the entire season, last week. As a veteran, who is also a proven run-stopper, Rashad should play better tomorrow. On top of all of that, I think that Zim will throw the whole book at "Sancheese" this week. The passing game will not be a factor against J-Jo, Leon and company, so it'll come down to our front seven's ability to stop the run. I expect Zim to play Ndukwe close to the line, and he's been explosive all season in blitzing the QB. If we go +1 or +2 in the turnover department, this should be an easy win.My theme song for the next day or so, in regard of what #15 would be listening to to get ready for the all-mighty New York Jets./>http://www.youtube.com/user/AntReeves28#p/f/30/9X_JJeVJLFc
Kazkal
God I wanted tear my eyes out watching playbook it's like they think were a 2-14 team :| the Jets are built to play Defense and run the ball this is why they will win...Um Bengals built like that too but you wouldn't know from watching them because all they can remember is week 17.PS,Not only Ndukwe But I'm sure see alot of Crocker and even Morgan on Blitz's... LesterLyles
Ridiculous argument. I am a Jets fan and trust me bro, we aren't overrated. I will say that the BIG edge I give to the Bengals is that you guys have consistently won your close games and we have consistently lost our close games. That could be very big tomorrow b/c I happen to think it will be close. Many Bengals fans ahve asked me why only 9-7 w/ the #1 D and #1 running game. the answer is that we lost 4 games on the last play of the game and another one in the last minute. Only at the Saints and at the Pats were more than a TD.

I could point to two or three plays this year that would put the Bengals at 12 or 13 wins, starting with the Immaculate Deflection in week 1 vs. Denver. I have a feeling tomorrow's game will be decided by who kicks the last successful field goal.

The game should be close. Because of that the Bengals have 2 very distinct advantages. They've won big games with Palmer leading the team in the 4th quarter this year. Sanchez has not.The Bengals are at home.Bengals 16-10.

That's why I say the Jets are overrated. Sure, they may have the best rushing attack and the best run defense, but against whom? I could easily point out the Dolphins (twice) and Jags ran at will against the Jets, and neither of those teams even sniffed the playoffs. I will admit that they have a very opportunistic defense, and the key is Revis in being the best CB since Deion Sanders, IMO. That forces teams to abandon the running game early, but I don't think it makes them unbeatable. The Jets O-line is also the best in the league, IMO, which explains why a guy like Shonn Greene is just as effective as Thomas Jones when he's in there. The Bengals will be looking at themselves in the mirror today, but I give the edge to the home-field and Carson over Mark Sanchez.
NJ29
I just saw on NFL Countdown that Ryan gave the Jets their itinerary for the rest of the playoofs, and their Super Bowl victory parade will be held on Febraury 9th. Is anybody else infuriated by the blatant disrespect coming out of this guy?And on NFL Countdown, and 4 of 5 picked the f**king Jets. Jesus. HairOnFire
Is anybody else infuriated by the blatant disrespect coming out of this guy? Nope. Rex's act has always been based upon bad comedy. The thing is though, his players get to laugh with him. Besides, it's not like he's shown any respect for himself either. Afterall, even Romeo Crennel thinks Rex Ryan is a fat tub of goo.

Hopefully it fires some of our guys up but I doubt that it is really meant to disrespect the Bengals. He is probably just trying to give his team some confidence and taking the attention off of them and putting it on him. Sam Wyche used to do the same thing here.
