jjakq27
OK, next question. Did Zim run the 3-4 in Dallas while he was there?
Kazkal
Not to bring up the often-discussed 3-4, but we just might have the personnel now, and Marvin has been looking to run it since he missed out on Manny Lawson and Derrick Harvey in consecutive draftsWho would be our Nose Tackle in the 3-4? Peko would be better suited for End IMO,Sims seems most likely but at the same time is it something risk messing around with when you had a top 5 unit in the 4-3? ArmyBengal
The nose tackle would be Mount Cody, after they draft him in the 1st.Peko and Odom on the ends and send Geathers to the OLB spot with B. Johnson and Maualuga in the middle and Rivers on the other side. That being said, I doubt it happens, but with a coaching change, you just never know... HoosierCat
http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/01/09/bengals-will-look-to-retain-zimmer/STEVE WYCHEBengals will look to retain ZimmerPosted: January 9th, 2010 | Steve Wyche | Tags: Cincinnati Bengals, Marvin Lewis, Mike Zimmer, Washington RedskinsThe Cincinnati Bengals will open contract talks with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer next week in an effort to retain him. Zimmer’s contract is set to expire and a source with knowledge of the situation said the Bengals want to try to persuade the sought-after coach from taking a job elsewhere.According to sources, the Washington Redskins are interested in hiring Zimmer to join new coach Mike Shanahan’s staff as defensive coordinator. If it becomes a bidding war, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has shown the willingness to pay what is needed. The Bengals tend not to spend excessively.Zimmer is revered in Cincinnati for building the defense into one of the better units in the NFL in his two seasons there. He has received much of the credit for the Bengals’ ascension to AFC North champions and for their playoff berth this season. He also is close with head coach Marvin Lewis. That does not mean he would not leave for a better opportunity.Zimmer, a longtime assistant in Dallas and former defensive coordinator with the Falcons, remains a head coaching candidate, but that option might not present itself because of the limited number of vacancies and possible openings. HairOnFire
The Cincinnati Bengals will open contract talks with defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer next week in an effort to retain him. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say contract talks will resume? After all, Zimmer admits the Bengals approached him with a contract extension proposal several weeks ago. jditty47
man I hope Zimmer doesn't move on. First time we have had a D Coord that we can trust in DECADES.
Kazkal
Yup the Skys the limit with Zimmer had rough patches this season but overall did superb job...Hopefully though we get some people who can actually rush the passer & cover a Tight end. jjakq27
They need to get this taken care of right away. Having him in place heading into the off-season would be a big boost to the team. With the potential of an overhaul on the offensive staff I would hate to try to replace Zimmer too.
Whur CHad At?
If I were Zim I would go where the money is and go to Wash. Go somewhere where your offense will give you a little help.

ArmyBengal
I can't see the reason Zim leaving having to do anything with the Redskins offense. Money, nothing else.
cincyhokie
The ticker on NFL Network last night stated "Bengals to open up talks with DC Mike Zimmer"I don't know what that means in the long run, but it sounds positive.
Whur CHad At?
Bengals will offer Zim a raise of an extra $200 dollars a week. The Redskins will offer him $3 mill a year. It's a no win situation. If I were the Bengals I would get in contact with Jim Mora's agent now and start talking.
Whur CHad At?
With Del Rio about to get the short end of the stick does anyone believe that he would make a good DC. Marvin's former assistant in Baltimore, would be a good match! Plus he would bring some fire to this defense that Zimmer is going to leave behind. But, would rather Zimm stay here. bpepper
I'd be OK with it eventually, but then again I won't really be OK at all if they let Zimmer go. Same old thing, though. Even after Saturday, and any other stupid crap they do, I'll be back and optimistic next year as always. Somehow I always get sucked in. walzav29
This would be a horrible thing, but if Mike Brown gets in a bidding war with Dan Snyder. I think we know who'll win that. To me. This deal has to be done. Maybe he can be head coach after 2010.
AGrizzlyBaer
If he leaves I would imagine Jeff FitzGerald gets a shot. Though who knows.
BlainThePain
Pro Football Weekly just ranked Zimmer as the second best D-coordinator in the NFL. The Eagles coordinator was the only one ranked ahead of him.
Ickey44
Well, technically his contract isn't up until the end of Febuary so Brown can block anyone from negotiating with him until then. Hopefully they can work out a deal before then.

Hopefully they can work out a deal before then.Yeah, but its the Redskins we are talking about here. They had Haynesworth signed to one of the largest contracts ever within minutes of free agency starting. It was pretty obvious then that they were illegally contacting Haynesworth before they were supposed to, and to me, its obvious that they will start negotiating with Zimmer whether it is allowed or not if its true that he is their top choice.I do think we have a couple of things in our favor. I remember Zimmer talking about how the organization really stepped up and helped with everything when his wife died and he said he would never forget it. Another thing working in our favor is Zimmer is the main guy running the Bengals D, it won't be so in Washington with the leprechaun bringing in his old defensive coordinator to be assistant head coach. I doubt he'll be as nice as the 49ers and drop them either.

I doubt he'll be as nice as the 49ers and drop them either. Why would he? He never did when the Browns signed Steinbach away right as free agency started a couple years back. Even if the team didn't want to pay him (mistake) they still could have filed tampering charges cause everybody knew he was going there before he signed. Teams just don't push it unless it happens in the middle of the season...
Ickey44
I don't know that they had any intention of trying to sign Steinbach because he was asking for more money than Brown was willing to pay. However, with Snyder, he's one of the big money owners I'm sure Mikey would like to stick it to if given the opportunity. Just a feeling I have.
