I could care less about getting respect but..

Like I said, the style of play is not what I am concerned with. Who the hell cares about style of play???

What I am concerned with is the ability to sustain drives and to score TDs frequently enough to win an NFL championship.

As far as I know, there is no rule that says if you are a dominant running team that you have to settle for field goals and are forbidden to score touchdowns. You act like we have to make a choice between being a running team and being able to score points. Guess what, you can do both. And you have to in order to win the superbowl. Right now, we are not.

oK, whatever. you evade the points and prove time again you are a worthless rubber-necker providing drive-by observations: "They need to score more".

you are a waste of time.

Perhaps the following article will help explain where all of the sniping is coming from....

Being cautious on Palmer, others in rankings

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 | Feedback | Print Entry

There are so many bad teams in the NFL, squads that can't defend the pass, the run or just about anything that it's actually forced me to adjust my fantasy football thinking just a bit. Take Carson Palmer, for example. In Week 12 against the awful Cleveland Browns Palmer was a huge fantasy disappointment, throwing for a mere 110 yards, though he did find the time to complete a touchdown pass. This week Palmer's Cincinnati Bengals face the Detroit Lions. They're pretty bad, too, but what if Palmer doesn't need to throw the ball again?

That's the risk in fantasy football, that an owner overreacts to what appears to be a cake matchup and makes a lineup decision they wouldn't normally make. I did rank Palmer in the top 10 at quarterback this week, but more because I couldn't find 10 quarterbacks I really liked, whether due to matchup or their performance trend. I mean, Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner didn't even play in Week 13, and while I suspect that changes this week, they were the two quarterbacks I ranked after Palmer. I'm not all that enamored about any of them this week.

This is why Aaron Rodgers is such a joy to own. The matchup doesn't matter. He never pulls a Palmer and fails to take advantage of a bad defense. He puts up numbers all the time. Sure, Ryan Grant is a nice player and the Green Bay Packers can run the ball, but couldn't you just see Palmer handing off to Cedric Benson, Larry Johnson and Bernard Scott so much that the Bengals cruise to a boring 21-6 win this week? I could. And that never happens with Rodgers.

Ah yes. I forget that half of the fans of the NFL care as much as about their fantasy team as they do about whichever NFL team they've pledged their allegiance to.

If you are a Bengal fan that has $100 riding on your fantasy team, and you thought Palmer was a good sleeper QB to take, this offense probably drives you crazy. For my part, I like it when the Bengals get W's a lot more than losing a 49-41 game. Sure, a game like that is great for fantasy... but I just prefer when they win. Does that make me a purist?

Check out skyline's link to Marvin Lewis mic'd up. You'll hear him say "Brat, let's just keep running the ball. They can't stop us running the ball downhill." They are doing that just fine without Palmer putting up '05 style video game numbers. So, to the disgust of many fantasy nerds, I predict that the Bengals will fail to put up 45 points on Detroit this week. And I won't be the least bit surprised if they dominate the TOP with 40+ minutes and win a 17-6 type game again. And you know what? I'll take it. Every damn time.

Scoring points gets you to the SB - you are not going to stop Manning or Drew Brees from scoring points no matter how good you are on defense, you have to keep up!

What? That's completely false.

Remember the crazy 2004 Colts offense? Three 1,000 yard receivers?

Held to 3 points in the playoffs by New England.

The Colts again in 2005?

Held to 18 points by Pittsburgh in the playoffs.

Remember the crazy 2007 Patriots offense?

Held to 14 points by the Giants in the Superbowl.

Great offense doesn't just automatically trump great defense. That's nonsense. Frankly, Bengals fans should know that as well as anyone.

Anyone who plays fantasy football and is more than about 12 years old is a loser who has serious issues.

Anyone who belittles other people because of something they enjoy doing and is named JoePong is a loser who has serious issues.

He's being a little extreme and probably either just looking for a reaction or being sarcastic but I also HATE fantasy football. Been there, done that. It's pretty gay and a waste of time.

I don't play fantasy football anymore, but it's definately a way to keep you involved in all the games as opposed to just your own teams games.

As for it being gay, I'll leave that judgment to you since you're the resident gay expert.

And speaking of fantasy football, does anyone else watch the FX series "The League"?

It's pretty funny. Best, the character on the show who best represents Joe Pong's description is a lonely loser who on occasion has been known to drop a...."Child, please"....into the conversation.

Of course this immediately prompts one of the so-called cool characters on the show to turn to the balding loser guy and ask..."Did you just go Ocho Cinco on us?"
