DC_Bengals_Fan
That's exactly what they ARE doing....and they're doing it on both sides. In fact, Whitworth shifting to the right side, to line up outside of the ORT, has become almost as commonplace as Roland lining up as an extra OT on the left side. And in both examples you often see a TE, usually Coats, create an even greater overshift by lining up outside of the extra OT.No reason to stop there if we've already committed to the run. I want as many OT on the field as they can have without getting an illegal procedure, dammit! The only reason Coates should be out there is if they've pulled the WR off the field and they need an eligible number on the end of the line. Pidge
Just watching the Redskins game with Fred Davis blocking. Take as much time as you need Chase.

At least that blind squirrel just caught a nut, though (TD pass). Ya can't have a TE who can't block OR catch.Well, except Matt Schobel. Pidge
It's a little like watching us for the majority of last yr though isn't it? Just ugly all round.
NJ29
Coats did block extremely well Sunday. Not only was he lining up at tight end and in the slot, but they lined him up in the backfield as an H-back a few times. I remember one time specifically where he sealed Briggs and Ced ended up gaining ten yards or so. A couple of times they had both Coats and Jeremi lined up in the backfield with Cedric and overpowered them. I have to admit, I am wildly impressed with Brat's use of all these heavy lineups and unbalanced sets to create mismatches and overshifting by the defense, because not only are beating people up but it takes advantage of Ced being one of the most patience runners in the league. They're creating cutback lanes and Ced is using his vision really well. I absolutely love what Brat has been doing with the running game. agreen_112
For the record, Coats blocked like a beast today, which is why he continues to be on the active roster and starting. There it is. Simply put, Coats inability to catch half of the footballs thrown his direction is a big problem, but Coats ability as a blocker is a major reason for this teams success running the ball. And running the ball is job one.Hat goes off to Coats.. I never said that man couldn't block. Just don't throw him the damn ball lol.. If Coffman isn't ready, I trust the coaches. I mean, they're to the point now where they're platooning him and Foschi anyway.Really, at this point the question isn't whether Chase can block as well as Coats - it's whether he can catch in the endzone better than Foschi. I'd platoon an extra OL with our best redzone receiver (whether that's a a TE or WR) and use that instead of a TE, since we don't have one who can apparently both block AND catch. After Sunday, they don't need to change a damn thing. Do that every week. We won't need Coffman. I'd still like to see him on passing downs but I'm not even worried about it. Brat called a helluva game, that's why he's still the OC. The man has his genius moments, I'm not gonna lie.

He blocks well and has put himself in the position to succeed and if he could just hold on to the ball he would be good.Even though Brat called a good game this week, I dont think I can ever feel confident he can do it consistently. He is the major weak point in this team IMO. Maybe he can prove me wrong, but Im not holding my breath.
