Did anyone see Carson Palmer...

???

I thought it was a very well done piece and showed a little bit of the ability of carson as well as his mentality coming off his first season in the NFL and how he is preparing for his first starting season.

Another point of that was K.Wash and CJ were shown talking about carson and they was all..."u just dont know, u ppl just dont know...we are back, watch out for us" Then they cut CJ off as he was about to cuss :)

I think our offense is gonna be wicked and our defense is gonna be "ok" but will force more TO's than last year, but will still get ran upon all game long. I see playoffs in 04 just cuz our offense is gonna be stellar i believe. Yes carson will have some TO's but so did kitna. As long as he gets TD's along with them we'll be fine.

See, that's the thing. If our offense is gonna be so good (and yes, I think it will be too) You don't have to be as good against the run...The best way to stop a team from running is to put points on the board and force the other team to pass and our pass defense should be heaps better than last year.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing about Palmer like he's the savior of Bengals football... he still hasn't proven ANYTHING!

Yes, yes, yes, I know, he could be great.. but I'm tired of hearing about players before they even earn their money on the field. I've seen it too many times in both college and the pros.

Well, whaddya expect? 1st overall pick, Heismann winner, you're going to get the buzz machine going no matter what. Two things I do like about how it's playing out are 1) CP appears to be keeping it real and not letting all the hype get to him, and 2) you don't hear coaching putting weight on his shoulders; no Coslet-esque "we'll go as far as he [Akili] will take us" type statements.

I realize that Joisey, you should know I'm not some uninformed idiot!

I'm really guarded from turning Palmer into a machine of abuse if his first 2-3 seasons are failures...

Tired?!?!?!?

How soon we all forget that the Bengals didn't even use to be a footnote on sports television's radar!

If you did not live in the 'Nati the most you could hope for sunday night was a full screen graphic of the score and a handful of statistics... Monday morning in the paper had one line with the score and no recap unless it was to talk about the other team!

Some people in the media actually have taken an interest in this team for this year. The Bengals are on everyone's radar and have become a fun team to cover and to watch. This team has deflected some of the rampaging criticism and horrible jokes that have plagued them for over a decade and I must admit it feels good to wear my old jerseys and show my pride for a organization that I have lived and mostly died with for 20 years. If someone wnats to talk up the players on the Bengals, I welcome that recognition for a team that has had many stars mosey through their career without any credit for showing up on sundays and playing their heart's out.

Some of you Ohio natives do not understand how truly lucky you have it. Want to see a game? Just drive there. Want to check out the latest merchandise without outrageous shipping costs, go to the mall or the stadium store. Want to have a drink and watch the game with the fellas who are rooting for your same team? Leave the house. I live just outside of Los Angeles, and even without a pro team in town to bring fans together for one common cause, I have to sit at any sports bar in the state and watch as the seas of Cowboys, Raiders, 49ers, Packers, Steelers, Lions, Patriots, and Falcons fans mob the places. I am embarrased at all of the bockering between Bengals fans that goes on in this site. Embrace that we all love this team and how exciting it is to be moving towards opening day. Take pride when you see your favorite players on television being interviewed as if they have an opinion that is newsworthy and respected. I can remember a day when people would tell me they couldn't name one player on the team and couldn't care less. - Ryan

i saw the segment. that's the second time they've shown it. it was on the other day. i thought that was a little strange.

I didn't get to see the segment, and as a rule, I respect your opinions so I'm really curious as to why your thought it was " strange " ????? It was an interesting choice of words.

Point #1 was one of the things that has been said of Palmer all along ..... that he won't let the job get bigger than him.

He doesn't seem to rattle too easily, and that could come in handy when he's getting his first whiffs of Ray Lewis' breath.

I also agree with LABengalsFan about not appreciating easy access to the games. I'm only in New York, so it's not as bad for me. But I can also remember the times I could've gone to a Reds or Bengals game and didn't while I was living in town. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got till it's gone ????

Bozo - As an avid Reds fan, as well as Bengal fan, what would you rather be at, a Reds or Bengals game?

Ooh. Tough Question! ;)

Tough question ...... easy answer.

My perfect scenario would be to watch the Reds sweep the Cubs from Tuesday to Friday, and then watch the Bengals crush the Browns ( the old ones or the new ones ) on Sunday.

The 2 experiences are so different, that it's hard to say. Can't imagine summer w/o baseball or fall w/o football.

I'd have to lean towards the Reds simply because I've been a fan and going to the games since about '54 or '55. That's 19 ..... not 18.

Conversely I've only been a Bengals fan since '68.

I'll leave a post in the GD forum ( so the mods don't get on me )

sorry, i wasn't very clear. the segment itself wasn't strange. just thought it was odd that sportscenter ran the same segment on different days.

Gotcha !

Thought it was odd that you'd have thought the segment was strange. Most of the times I take things too literally. B)

I'm going to have to disagree to this. I'm going to say that your Run Defense is still important. Take this scenario into mind:

In 1999, teams Defensive Coordinators were trying to rack their brains to come up with a Defensive Scheme to stop the Rams' Track Team. Well, the solution was to play keep away from Kurt Warner. The solution was CLOCK MANAGEMENT. Philosophy is "if you don't have the ball, you can't win the game". Thus, other teams would RUN THE BALL. If you have Offensive Drives that eat up the clock, then other teams' Offenses don't get to run up the score.

Same thing with the Bungles. If you still have some no-name named Shipp plowing through the Defense for 140 yards on the ground, then your Offense won't be on the field for very long. TOP becomes important when you have no run defense.

AND THAT'S WHAT IS GOING TO HURT THE BUNGLES THIS YEAR.

Also, Kirk does have a point about Carson Palmer. The guy is essentially a rookie having never taken a snap from center in a regular season game. This guy hasn't proven squat yet.

I hope what Marvin Lewis & Company has been saying about CP holds true in games though.

However, we all know that it's different from NOT GETTING HIT IN PRACTICE to being blindsided by a Joey Porter or a Ray Lewis.

i remember back in early october 2002 hoping the bengals would pick this kid in the 2nd or 3rd round. he wasn't on anyones raider at that time. next thing, boom, he's the #1 pick for a reason. think the kids smart. played through offensive coordinators and handled himself well. think he IS THE REAL DEAL. but i must agree with kirk & barb, (damn does that sting :o ) that untill he performs UNDER FIRE, the jury is still out. preseason will give an indication of sorts.

I didn't say a run defense wasn't important, only that the offense can help the defense by keeping the other teams offense off the field and putting points on the board. Not having a defense didn't seem to hurt those 99 Rams you mentioned...Hell the Eagles made it the the NFC championship game with no run defense, and the Chiefs had no defense full stop....

I really wish I had seen the ESPN piece. Any time a Bengal gets national exposure that's positive, it's a good thing.

What JDitty posted about what KWash and CJ said about CP is a prime example of why I'm so optimistic for what CP is going to do for this franchise ("You people just don't know.") I love hearing (reading) comments like that, and I'll never grow tired of it. It's comments like these that are the true testimony to a player's abilities. It's understandable for some of us to be cautious simply because he doesn't have any real experience, or because of past franchise QB failures yada yada... But it's the comments from the guys that see him perform every day, and KNOW what he can do that lead me to believe that he's the real thing...not the comments of doubters who ASSUME he's going to fail solely based on previous experiences that aren't even related to CP's individual talents. Maybe I'm just a blind optimist who wants to believe that we have an MVP caliber QB now...but I don't think so.

Here are a few more quotes to fuel our optimism.

Bob Bratkowski - "Guys would see him fire a pass and they'd look at each other and go, "Did you see that throw?'"

Big Willie - "He knows what he's doing. He's not like situations we had here in the past where people, coaches and personnel people were questioning if a guy knew what he was doing (referring to Akilli). I don't think it's the case with (Palmer)."

CJ - "What's amazing about Carson is that everything he throws is on the money. Accuracy is his bread and butter. Hey, it's going to be a long, long season for our opponents."
