BlainThePain
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2009/profiles/cli...layers-analysisAnalysisPositives: Wide-chested with strong builds in the upper and lower body. ... Good, not great, first step off the ball. ... Has very good straight-line speed to chase down backs down the line and from behind. ... When lined up in a three-technique, he shows a real burst off the ball and a nice spin move off either shoulder. ... Works hard as a pass rusher if he sees even a slight opening. ... Has a strong punch but needs to use it more often. ... Has the strength to hold off linemen with one shoulder and stay upright when slanting or in the three-technique spot.Negatives: Short and a bit smaller than scouts prefer for nose tackle, but adequate for a three-technique. ... Can be engulfed and pushed back by larger guards. ... Stays upright against double teams, but usually only gets off to make tackles five or six yards downfield. ... Gets a little push into the pocket, but usually gets stopped by a good anchor when bull-rushing. ... Must improve his hand technique to get off blocks inside. ... Does not hustle or chase as much as you'd think given his athleticism. ... Will whiff in the backfield but has good change-of-direction skills to recover. ... Six of his seven sacks in 2008 came against Arkansas State and UAB, two squads without a lot of cachet with scouts. ... Medical report on his severely sprained left ankle is important in determining his final grade.

derekshank
He's listed as a DT... but he's only 280? Sounds like a DE on rushing downs to me.
Dadraftnick
This is a joke pick.A pick like this comes from not knowing who is left on the board.7 sacks ?They should have went to Jeremiah JohnsonRB Willie VanSteegDEC J Spillman SP J Hill RBBrandon Swain DE

BlainThePain
He's listed as a DT... but he's only 280? Sounds like a DE on rushing downs to me.Jay Ratliff was a 280-290 pound DE that got drafted late and turned into a NT that got 7.5 sacks last season. I think he's depth this year that could turn into a pass rushing DT down the road.
Dadraftnick
I know that they wanted DE Nick Reed in this spot .They had him in for a visit and liked him He was taken just before their pick.
georgeoberer
HE plays the three-technique which tells me they do plan on playing with four LBs on the field at times.

If he beats out anybody, it's going to be Fanene.Ya,Be interesting to see what they do since they already have clear a spot from last years ends for Michael Johnson...So Fanene or Rucker will more then likely be getting axed unless they go with 9 Dlinemen....which could be case if they want Johnson to be a Pass Rush Specialist and even get looks at SLB. redsbengalsbucks
Maybe his work ethic will help Shirley pick up his game in practice. Seems like he could end up a decent backup.

In. sane. 4.8 in the 40. Jumps through the roof. He's raw as can be, but at his size, and with that athleticism, he is the kind of guy at DT that, four or five years from now, can be an impact player. DTs are notoriously slow developers oftentimes, anyway.I think it's a wonderful flyer at that spot in the draft, and he would be a great development/practice squad candidate. Watch and see. Watch and see.I agree with this. The Bengals have lacked penetrators at the DT position on passing downs who can get int the QBs face. QBs just step up in the pocket to avoid our DEs when they come off the edge. We signed Tank Johnson to help this proble. After developing a little, I think McDonald can fill that role. He was rated #1 among DTs in initial quickness getting off the line and in pursuit/tackling. He may not be an every down guy, but he could excel as a situational player. From the War Room:Clinton McDonaldDT, Memphis Position rank: 11 Initial quickness: 1Pass rush: 8Pursuit/tackling: 1Run/pass recognition: 4Versus the run: 11War Room analysisStrengths: Shows explosiveness off the snap and shoots gaps to disrupt plays in the backfield. Changes directions well and shows sideline-to-sideline range. Chases down plays from behind. Shows good leadership skills and great motor. Excels at splitting double-teamsBottom line: A two-time team captain, McDonald was an important cog on the Tigers' defensive line and plays with a never-say-die attitude. However, he is a classic defensive tackle/end 'tweener prospect who will struggle to become an every-down player in the NFL. His versatility to play on special teams and as a fullback in short-yardage situations because of his quickness make McDonald worth a late-round pick. Sounds like a guy who might answer my prayers by finally pushing Jonathan Fanene to the curb.
HAPPYJAQ
I'm really interested in seeing what he can do. Here's a nice read on him.http://www.arkansasleader.com/2009/04/spor...ns-big-day.html
Baraka
i think it's possible he will be in at de when they show 3-4 looks. if you look at the roster we now have the type of players that a team needs to run that formation, unlike in the past. Here's a nice read on him.http://www.arkansasleader.com/2009/04/spor...ns-big-day.htmlWow, yet another draft pick with a chip on his shoulder after going later in the draft then he expected and wanting to prove people wrong. Sounds like we got a whole draft full of those guys. I hope they all get good and pissed off, ready to come out and kick the crap out of someone. Hopefully that someone isn't at a club or somewhere else that would get them arrested !!! I mean on the field !!!
