agreen_112 Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 We have good safeties and Roy Williams is VERY suspect in coverage but would you sign the guy.. Do you think the Bengals should make an offer??
derekshank Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 We have good safeties and Roy Williams is VERY suspect in coverage but would you sign the guy.. Do you think the Bengals should make an offer??He's a LB in a safety's body. The Bengals already have a younger version of what Roy does is Marvin White. He's the kind of guy that can hit hard and make WR's afraid to come across the middle. I like that attribute, but the Bengals don't need any more safeties that can't cover.

We're starting to get it (attitude) but sign a guy like R. Williams and he will raise the bar tremendously.
Wraith Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 And you combine the fact that Roy Williams was a Pro Bowler under Zimmer when the Zimmer was the DC for the Cowboys also makes it intriguing....if he would sign for the vet. minimum I say lets do it but more than that , we have bigger fish to fry, we still need to find a Center somewhere.
TJJackson Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 We were well below NFL average on horsecollar tackle penalties last year, so signing him should help us build up on this stat
kentjett Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 How big is he? Could he be that specialty linebacker that Marvins been looking for.
skyline Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Not a chance. Chris Crocker is the only free agent safety we'll be signing this year.
Pidge Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 He's not very suspect in coverage at all. He is completely worthless. Total garbage. He is also not a LBer at the NFL level. At this point I'd be surprised if he plays another meaningful down in the NFL. Even being signed by another team is an outside bet to my mind at this point. The Zimmer thing is very tenuous. That was a few yrs ago and with a completely different cast.We have Marvin White who is young and actually better than TRRW at this point in that he is marginally more effective in coverage but has time to improve. A guy with an upside vs. a guy a couple of yrs on the downward slope isn't even a discussion. So shut up everyone.

Just wanted to say that I was the first to post interest in Roy after his release.. Now where's my damn cookie!Anywho, great signing. We were one or two players away from being a great defense.. I think we're now +3 players after signing Tank and Roy and drafting Rey Rey and Micheal Johnson.
redsbengalsbucks Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Ehh, cant get excited about singing somebody elses washed-up player. Hopefully he is a perfect fit to Zimmer's scheme and becomes a pro-bowl player again, other than that he might not even make the team. At least it is a cheap/short contract with no downfalls if he does not cut it.
whizzo Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 he's 28, he's been to FIVE pro bowls (how many current bengals can say that? about two or three), and he had his best days under our current D coordinator. what's with the pessimism?

His best days were under Zimmer, but they were also a few years ago. I cant say as I am pessimistic, more so I am not excited or dumbfounded by the move. This move will only upset me if it precludes singing a vet CB to bolster the depth of the secondary.
