UF_Gators_15
All I've heard about y we haven't gone after Birk is because we don't think he will be able to block in this division with all these big nose tackles, but apparently the Gayvens do! Gawd I try to be optimistic about this underachieving franchise but we can all agree that the Gayvens organization is run better than our...I don't know what to call it but they believe he can block in this division and I will make a wager with anyone that if he signs with the Gayvens(and its between them and Minny) then he will make the ProBowl for them and thus make us looking even stupider, especially after we don't get one in the draft mark my words, we'll find a way to go into the season with Crummey set to start, watch! The thing is Matt Birk is from the midwest so Cincinnati would offer him that same type of atmosphere that he is used to, plus he can mentor the other linemen with his wealth of knowledge. Matt Birk makes too much sense that's the problem, but just wait we will sign some back up that they swear has alot of potential.

Hopefully he will give us more then three sacks this year even though he led the team. I hoping it's just scheme and that we will get it fixed rather then his lack of ability unless he has someone else that's dominant playing with him. BlainThePain
The thing you have to look at now though is any "big" free agents will mess with the compensatory picks we will be getting next year. I think we all feel we could get a 3rd round pick for Housh, but if we sign Coles or Birk, that 3rd round pick becomes a 6th rounder. You are pretty much trading draft picks for any decent free agent you sign now.
ArmyBengal
It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with them thinking he can't play in the AFCN. It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that Birk is from St. Paul and has TOTAL control over everything he does in this situation. HE is the one choosing who what team he does or doesn't go to. He either wants to stay in Minnesota or go to a team of his choosing. Guess what team ISN'T on his list ?? I think it will only take one guess though... HairOnFire
Yeah, I loved Birk's remarks about never wanting to leave the Vikings and how he wanted to die in Minnesota. Stay or go it's the type of thing we all wish TJ could have said on his way out. Instead, he quietly douched his way out the door.
HAPPYJAQ
Birk's agent says it's down to the Vikings and the Ravens. Looks like the Vikes are not all that interested, so I'm betting he'll be a Ratbird.
walzav29
I'll guarantee he's better than Guichec. The Bengals need to be able to block those killer D's in the North. They need a vet desperately to make the line calls. Can't they just give him a little extra cash?

If he doesn't sign somewhere he can retire and not look back. He's going to do what he wants and once again, what he wants has NOTHING to do with Cincinnati...Time to accept drafting a Center within the first three rounds. I'm still hoping the top of the 2nd.

Mikey looked under the cushions of his couch and only came up with $0.85 and a few stale Cheetos. I don't think that'll cover it.
derekshank
So... other than the wishful thinking of fan on this forum, I haven't heard the Bengals mentioned at all when it comes to FA C's. Have any come to visit Cincy? Are any going to? Does the coaching staff feel like they have a Center on the roster, or are they really placing all their hopes on getting Mack, Wood, or Unger in the 2nd round? Why not bring in Duke Preston for an interview? He's 326 lbs which is about as big as you get at C, and he is very good in run blocking. It would be nice to once again free up the draft a little bit. I'm a little concerned about depending on any rookie to start at C in the AFCN.
Spor_tees
From what I read Birk is only considering the Ravens or the Vikings. I did also see a snipit that Ben Wilkerson er-upped with the Falcons and the coach made the comment about how much of a hard worker he is. Maybe Wilkerson was a guy the Bengals actually gave up on too early.

Other organizations offer to "meet up at Rally's."Some teams find a way. Other teams find a way to make excuses. If you are questioning the disproportionate venom from ex-Bengals compared to the rest of the NFL, then you must not have been paying very close attention over the years. Which is cool. Don't blame you one bit for that.

BlainThePain
I think we can count on two things to happen:1. Either they bring back Ghiaciuc or move Bobbie Williams to center and let Livings take over at right guard.2. They draft a center to replace Ghiaciuc or Williams
Whur CHad At?
Rather draft a center.
Clackwoods
Rather draft a center.Birk signed a three year deal to play for the Ravens. I have to believe we will be drafting a center considering we didn't even bring in any FA centers for visits.
ArmyBengal
A new WR, got our RB back, Crocker in the fold, a bunch of LB depth, but no o-line help...What the f*ck are they thinking ?? Why don't they spend some money ?? Why don't they make moves to improve this team ??
ShulaSteakhouse
Won't pay centers or guards more than $2.5mm or so a year here, and that's only one at a time typically.
