Play action,post pattern. Six points.

Dream on, homeboy. This ain't your Playstation 2. This isn't Madden 2005 where you can trade for Joe Montana, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, and Mark Clayton all in their primes. You can't hit the "X" button for an audible. This is the REAL NFL. Somebody wake up BungleBoy.

I'll say this too--Carson's first offensive drive will be 3 and out.

You know.. I'm expecting one extreme or another. As Barb pointed out, Palmer could go 3 and out... or... Palmer could throw an 80 yard pass for touchdown on the first play. I don't think it will be a sustained driver however...

I'm just curious Barb, Did you vote run or pass?

Billy,

I picked run!!! It's smart. Let the boy (Palmer) get comfortable with the offense in real game situations before you turn him loose.

What if you come out throwing and he gets intercepted right away??? Then his confidence is blown--AND MAY NOT EVER GET IT BACK.

Let him work up to those 10-yard outs or the hook patterns--then if he feels comfortable with that, then let him throw that 5-yard out-and-up or the Fly Pattern.

Well Barb it may not be "smart" if the Jets defense is sitting on the run with 8 in the box! The man has a cannon for an arm. That's an awesome weapon that needs to be broken in A.S.A.P., if nothing more than giving him confidence to use it! :player:

I voted run because:

1. Marvin Lewis is a realist, he knows Carson is going to be nervous with the thought of the whole weight of the future of the franchise on his shoulders.

2. To test out the effectiveness of Rudi early and often (in regards to future plays as well of course...) to make sure he wasn't a fluke, and if he was to get Perry going as soon as possible.

3. You run to open up the pass. :player:

Bunch right, slant and go route from CJ... It seems to me that Marvin will want to do something crazy to start the season off, like a 40 yard bomb to somebody. If it isn't caught, the opposition at least knows we mean business. And if it IS caught...

Secondaries beware...

Man...wouldn't that be sweet? The Jet's come up crowding the line, Carson recognizes the defense, Audibles out of the running play and hits Chad or Peter on a quick slant over the middle for at least a first down, if not a big gain!

Talk about shutting up alot of folks reak quick! :player:

Yes, it would. Here's an even sweeter one:

I-Formation, Tight-Right, Warrick-Right, Chad Split Left.

8 Jet Defenders are crowding the line anticipating handoff to Rudi through the 2-Gap (I'm a defensive player).

Palmer checks off--calls play that sends CJ on a 5-yard slant (decoy); Warrick the same (hot read). Palmer hits Warrick on the slant for a 7-yard gain.

Why this is sweet???

1. Palmer completes his 1st pass for a nice gain (thus gaining confidence)

2. Warrick doesn't drop the bullet of a pass

Yeah, didn't he do that the first time against the Jets?

Throw two straight interceptions for TD's?

Barbarian's right....

if his confidence is blown from one interception (even if its his first pass in the nfl), then he's not the guy we want playing for us anyway.

i say let him jump in and get his feet wet. if we're going to treat him so carefully, then the jets can play for the run, and then palmer is left with extra pressure on long 3rd downs, etc.

im not so concerned about the first play, but i hope they mix it up well and aren't afraid to turn palmer loose. i'd hate to see them try to ease him in with an overload of running and tiny passes. the preseason is the time he should be getting himself adapted. by the time the regular season hits he should be off and running. he'll make a ton of mistakes, but hopefully it will have a great upside as well.

Great point skyline! I don't think interceptions are going to rattle Palmer that much. They're gonna happen. We all know it, so why not let Carson "light 'em up" the best he can from the get go!

Warrick got Bengaled, the same way Akili Smith or Reinard Wilson was... It's hard to judge any pre-marvin players because they were soooo poorly coached and soooo poorly disciplined with NO talent around them and virtually no chance of winning... Warrick never HAS earned his paycheck, but I wouldn't necisarily say its entirely his fault. He may be a bust, but it's different when you're Bengaled.

I agree...the Jets will probably be thinking run and will put 8 in the box to eventually force Palmer into throwing it. What you have to do is showcase the arm strength and make the defense respect the passing game, which they aren't going to do with an unproven QB until he shows them something. We have one of the best receiving corps in the NFL and if you don't let Johnson, Washinton, and maybe even Patrick Johnson instead of P-Dub, run loose on the first play then the Jets won't respect the pass.

I won't be foolish enough to think that Palmer will throw a TD on his first ever NFL pass, but I think that he could have a nice completion...and at the very least have the Jets DB's attention.

I'm not positive...but I seem to remember Klingler's 1st play was a bomb that was completed, but did it go for a TD or was the receiver caught?
