BlainThePain
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playernews.aspx?sport=NFLThe Texans will host Cedric Benson for a free agent visit on Monday.Cincinnati has competition. This will be Benson's first visit; only the Bengals have showed interest in re-signing him to this point. The Texans could use him as a "change of pace" behind Steve Slaton, a role Benson has successfully played before in Chicago. A short-term contract offer may be forthcoming. HAPPYJAQ
A University of Texas legend going to play in Houston? If they offer anything reasonable, he's gone. WOW. We didn't sign a C and it looks like we are losing T.J....and possibly Ced, too. Not to mention we need a backup QB and could use another veteran CB. What are the Bengals doing? Slaton is small for a RB and has had some durability problems in the past. They would do best to use him similar to how Westbrook is used in Philly and let Ced play the Buckhalter role. Now that I think about it more, if it comes down to dollars and cents, he'll be a Bengal. Would Ced take less to play in his home state? membengal
Happy, after what Slaton did last year, no effin way the Texans view him as a back-up.
ArmyBengal
There was a blurb today about Benson being the backup behind Slaton and getting next to nothing in carries in that role.I think Benson will be in stripes.
Bearcat1975
I think Benson is like any other NFL player. The Cincinnati Bengals are an absolute last resort.Carson: (tosses the football to TJ) "Dude, we need you back in 2009. I need you as my go to guy. You have got to come back to the Bengals next season. I think we can really put it all together again this season. With you, me, Chad, and Chris, we could be something really special again, I can just feel it."TJ: (tosses the football back) "Carson, I love you man, you know that. And I am sorry that the Bengals locked you in longterm, back when things were a little more optimistic. I feel for you and Chad, and I wish nothing but the best for both of you. You two are like family to me. But this is reality. I finally have a way out and I am taking it."

The Bengals would feature Benson, but their offer may be less substantial.Source: Houston Chronicle

Baraka
yeah this could get ugly really quick, i'm not ready to jump off the bridge, but no center, no tackle, no back-up qb and most mind numbing no running back, i mean we don't have a single running back that could even be considered useful. for a team that's trying to focus on the run you would think a running back would be kind of high on the list of things to secure.i don't see any way they are going to spend to the cap this year. not that it's surprising.again i'm not losing it here but the way the team is handling this off season is just curious, are they waiting on tj to make a decision, if so, it's a total hamstring to us filling the holes we have. Benson wants to get paid like a starting RB when quite honestly he has yet to prove he has staying power. At this point I start to think more and more that the Bengals are going to draft a RB early in this up coming draft. As of late, there have been too many RB's hat have come out of the top 3 rounds of the draft and made an impact right away. Just last year you had Forte, Felix Jones and Slaton. Mendenhall and McFadden might have done well also if not for injury. Why overpay for a guy like Benson when you can get a guy that is going to play for A LOT less in the second or third round of the draft? Don't get me wrong I would like to have Benson back simply because of the experience and his ability to pick up the blitz, but I can see where the front office might be coming from on this one. Baraka
i think you're probably right regarding drafting a back early, but at the expense of what, a center, a pass rusher? i would be okay with it if we take one after the second round, but most of the backs projected to be available there are more of the complimentary type. jennings from liberty looks like he's the only one that could be a true bell cow oh and maybe andre brown.edit: i'd be happy with either one of them, for what it's worth
HairOnFire
If that's the best offer Benson can get, and he really has no interest in staying in Cincy, he'll delay signing with any team for months.

volcom69
Looks like Benson likes it in Texas and has a good chance of signing with them, grr so why not losing every free agent i sure hope they decide to make some moves soon. Who knows what will happen but it seems like nobody wants to play for this team.

The following starting RB's are around his size and they seem to be doing fine:Deangelo Williams 5-9, 217Thomas Jones 5-10, 215Steve Slaton 5-9, 203 ******************************Chris Johnson 5-11, 200 (To fast to compare)Frank Gore 5-9, 217Marshawn Lynch 5-11, 215Brian Westbrook 5-10, 203 ***************************Maurice Jones Drew 5-7, 208Willie Parker 5-10, 209Warrick Dunn 5-9, 187Joseph Addai 5-11, 214Darren McFadden 6-2, 210 There are some more, but I figured I made my point. A lot of these guys are great NFL running backs and they are all around the same size. Their are two guys on the list that are actually smaller all around than Ringer. Everyone that is within ten pounds of his weight is taller than him. That means that he has a low center and he is stocked. He was a bell cow at Michigan State and I watched him play almost every weekend. I would be ecstatic with him in the third round!
Clackwoods
Dude, Fu** Cedric Benson. I just read this garbage that he said:Benson said when asked why he preferred the Texans. “Also, there’s the Super Bowl. I had an opportunity to go to one (with Chicago), and I’d like to go back and win.”Like the Houston Texans have a better shot at the Superbowl than we do? Draft Crabtree, trade Chad and draft Moreno!NEXT question please.....
