QUOTE Jason Brown Suddenly in a BindFriday, February 27, 2009Posted By Mike Florio 4:10 PMThe good news for center/guard Jason Brown is that the St. Louis Rams are willing to pay him $7 million per year. The bad news for center/guard Jason Brown is that no one else is.A league source tells ProFootballTalk.com that Brown doesn't want to play for the Rams, and thus wants someone/anyone to step up and match the offer St. Louis has made to him.Per the source, Brown was hoping that the Ravens would match the number that the Rams put on the table. But the Ravens haven't, and apparently won't.Other teams are interested in Brown, but not at the same level that Rams have demonstrated. So Brown is in a bind. Does he take the money from a team for which he doesn't want to play? Or does he take less from someone else?http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/real_scou...denly_in_a_bind Quote
Kazkal Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 tyty...wow I can't believe not one other team willing to match....Mike Brown go get him!O_o Quote
BengalPimp Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I'd its a decent signing, may turn into a real bargain if he gets the playing time. Quote

Whur CHad At? Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 True...I dont see mikey doing anything Quote
volcom69 Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I cant see the bengals getting him, i think hes signing with the rams. If he dosnt want to play there he better get out now. Quote
HAPPYJAQ Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 it looks like he was using the rams as leverage to get what he wanted from the ravens, dolphins . . . bengals? If it's not the Rams, consider him a Dolphin. If the Bengals haven't put their bid in already, it's hard to imagine them getting him after tonight. We still need veterans at QB, WR, RB and probably a C/G type. The good news is that the Bengals are probably 20 million of so under the cap still. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 With the Crocker deal they are prob $26 under Quote
Esiason#7 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Very happy with the Crocker deal. Lets see if they can get TJ or maybe Ward in here....... Quote
cincy9275 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 espn is reporting it a done deal, brown is a ram. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 No real issues here with keeping him around, other than they should've made a real effort sign him during the season after his first few good games. Now he's making $3.5mm a year after a few good games? Is there a reason they didn't let him test the market? I can't imagine anyone would have offered him that much. Just more Bengal silliness I guess, but this move despite the cap hit, was expected. I'm not sure how a team improves from a putrid season by keeping the same guys and adding a couple of rookie starters from the draft every year. They do not have the Steelers' front office. Quote
DC_Bengals_Fan Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Very good signing. Getting Johnson and Crocker back adds a lot of toughness for the D, at fantastic value. The D is really shaping up next year. With a little D-line help things could get really interesting. Quote
georgeoberer Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 This was a good move and had to be done. He is a great leader and now we don't have to watch D jackson try to play. I agree though he would have never got that money on the market. I still like the signing though. Quote
Esiason#7 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 I don't know if anyone has seen it yet, but nfl.com reports Fitzpatrick has signed with the Bills. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 espn is reporting it a done deal, brown is a ram.The Bengals will not sign a "good" guard or center that costs anything, never do. They will draft a center, or a G/C fairly early. Alexander likes the kid from Oregon it seems, based on him singling him out in a local radio interview. One of his questions to lineman (he said he talked to all 60 of them) at the combine, was if they could name the 5 best NFL lineman at each position, he said 2 of them couldn't name a single person and he automatically disqualifies them based on that alone, more or less. Not so sure I'd do the same if they were that disinterested in the NFL, or just stupid, but what a relatively meaningless question when it comes to someone's ability. This is what you get when coaches have to scout as much as they do here - guys from Central Michigan taking busts from his former school and having to make decisions based on a single random question in "60" combine interviews. Gotta squeeze it all in as fast as you can! Quote

Gotta squeeze it all in as fast as you can!your preaching to the choir, i know how mike brown works. The "experts" are saying that Unger is the only 1st round C in the draft and the Colts signing Saturday back might've actually HELPED the Bengals. Some mocks were projecting Mack there and he could possibly be available in the 2nd round. Eric Wood is my pick as a guy that gives them the versatility that they love in the interior and a local product. He's a helluva player, too. I'd be happy with him in the 2nd and fully expect them to go C there, if they sign Benson or Ward. Quote
