GoBengals! Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 Do you think the Bengals would actually try to pursue him? Too expensive? I bet Carson would love to have him under centerhttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3925457 Quote

I bet Carson would love to have him under centerhttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3925457If we don't get Jason Brown I would love to have him. The guy is a proven winner, coming from a proven offense and he still has a lot of time left in him. I am sure he could show Carson some things! Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Sign him no way we get Brown. Reports are that Ravens and Brown contract talks going well Quote
HAPPYJAQ Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Do you think the Bengals would actually try to pursue him? Too expensive? I bet Carson would love to have him under centerhttp://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3925457I know he's struggled against John Henderson and Haynesworth over the last few seasons and that's exactly the type of DT's/NT's he'll see in the AFC North, if he signs here. He would be an upgrade over Giachiuc but at this point of his career, I don't think he's the answer. We would still need to draft a C. If Brown falls through, I'd be OK with signing him and then drafting Unger or Wood in the 2nd. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I think that would be the idea. Bring Saturday in and draft a good center early. Sign him for a 3 yr deal. Soon as we win a Super Bowl, we can let him retire and our new center will take over Quote

Soon as we win a Super Bowl, we can let him retire and our new center will take overIf we were going to follow that plan we wouldn't draft a center this year. They aren't going to draft one for the sole purpose of having him ride the bench for three years. They might draft a project C next year in the later rounds if they want to follow that logic.! Quote
Kazkal Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Actually they could -They could play the young center and Guard well he develops and would allow us to put whit on the outside.-They Could take Someone like Eric Wood someone I remember them saying could play any position on the Oline as a Whitworth type pick...You don't need him starting now but he's too good to pass upHeck if we signed Jason Brown and Mack was sitting there at 38 I still wouldn't mind taking him play him at guard have a very viable center opition it's called "Depth" good teams have it. ArmyBengal Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I think minus a Jason Brown signing in free agency we still draft a center this year. Bring in someone like Birk or Saturday and you still need to have a youngster. By the looks of next years draft, I would FAR prefer a center in this draft as opposed to next years projected centers.I really want Brown, but don't think it will actually happen. Birk is getting a bunch of talk from the Vikings as they are going to let Sharper go and Birk has already said he would MUCH prefer to stay in Minnesota. With that being the case, I think Saturday and a center in the 2nd is the most likely scenario. Quote
Baraka Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 as happy said he'll have a hard time with the nt's in this division. but anything is better than guycheck.i think wood helped himself a lot this weekend and would be a good pick in the second or third. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 anything is better than guycheck.HuhFirst you say Jeff Saturday would not be an improvement over GuychickThen you say anyone would be an improvementGeez......pull your head out of your ass and decide where you stand Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 Bengals' don't pay Centers, you should know this by now - only QB's, RB's, WR's, OT's and DE's get paid here. The next tier down are CB's, DT's and LB's. Interior lineman are literally the bottom of the barrel for the Bengals. Even Marvin has only gotten one FA guard here worth a darn, and I don't think he's making more than $2.5 a year in salary tops (and is nothing special). The Bengals' do not value interior o-lineman under Mike Brown, and never have. He does not understand football well enough, and forces his cap philosophy, along with Katie, on everyone else.Expect another mediocre-to-bad Center in the 3rd or 4th round this year in the draft. I only say "bad-to-mediocre" because Alexander won't do much with them, never does, even though this is a deep draft for Centers....so there is at least is some hope for luck or an upgrade there at least. icehole3 Posted February 26, 2009 Report Posted February 26, 2009 sounds like Saturday would rather sign with the Steelers, oh wellhttp://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...s/s_613269.html Quote

HairOnFire Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 He stayed with the Colts....after using the Steelers for leverage. Well played, sir. Quote
agreen_112 Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I don't get it, they say Saturday signed a deal which will make him one of the highest paid centers in the NFL.I thought a week ago the Colts didn't have the money? How can the Steelers win a SB and still afford to pay a guy like Saturday? Why don't the Bengals do anything with their money? There's plenty of room under the cap right? http://broadband.zoomtown.com/news/read.ph...LARSDCCL1_UNEWS Quote
HairOnFire Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I thought a week ago the Colts didn't have the money? Yeah, but the salary cap was just bumped up to the tune of 3 to 4 million per team....allowing lots of teams to make new 11th hour offers to FA's they don't want to lose. Quote
