B.J. Raji

Recommended Posts

I've been wanting him to be the pick since I saw him DESTROY Alex Mack and Max Unger at the Senior Bowl practices. Marvin had to take note of that. He is unstoppable one-on-one and imagine how much better he'd make our DE's and LB's? Raji and Peko with Sims and Shirley in on passing downs would be fun to watch. He seems like a bright and intelligent kid and very hungry to prove himself. He's another guy that is a competitor. Raji's a safe pick and what I like most is that he has a lot of respect for the Bengals coaching staff already, saying in an interview how they made him a better player in that week of practice in Mobile.

Bengal Heaven for me would be to draft him and have him practice against new Bengal Jason Brown in the Summer.

Rather take a Defensive End which would let Geathers go back to the pass specialist roll or maybe even marvins "joker" DE/LB....I would not mind Raji I just think end would directly effect the passrush more then he would...

The thing with that is, the Bengals would still need to draft a DE that is a solid run-stopper and it looks like most of the DE"s in this draft are the pash rusher types. No real two way players are there and I think Orakpo and even Brown and Everett are projected as OLBs/Nickel DE's. Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech has a real chance to move up tomorrow, maybe more than anybody in the draft. As far as the Bengals current roster goes, Frostee looks to be the best run defender amongst the DE's and I'd be happy with him at one spot on 1st and 2nd down and Odom/Geathers at the other.

Geathers is an enigma. Lately, he hasn't been generating a whole helluva lot of pressure on 3rd downs, but he can't play inside and Brandon Johnson and Rivers are the Nickel LB's. That's why Raji makes more sense because if he can occupy two blockers that leaves either Odom or Geathers one-on-one against a T or TE.

What's not to like about him ?? I mean outside the fact there are at least three other positions of greater need and two of those could be taken at #6... It's a real shame our o-line has deteriorated the way it has or Raji would be pretty easy to consider. Most really love what they see out of him, but still see #6 as "to high" for him...

Yeah, I'll admit it is a little high as he doesn't give you enough rushing the passer. I really, really don't want Andre Smith and it's an even bigger reach for Oher. They're saying that Jenkins is more of a safety type, so you really can't consider a CB at #6. It's rich for the Centers, too. To me, there's only 5 Super Blue Chippers in the draft in Bradford, Monroe, Jason Smith, Curry and Crabtree and we're sitting at #6.

It always seems like we're a pick or two late every year.

Let's hope one of the guys today has an unbelievable Combine and shoots up into Top 5 consideration.

Raji is one of the guys I would like. I wouldn't have a big issue on drafting him at all. I would still rather have Maualuga, I don't really give a s$%^ what the draft "experts" are saying, him paired with Rivers would do more for this defense than anyone else. Rivers and Maualuga would set the tone just likeLewis and Boulware did for the Ravens. This is not just about one good player but increasing the production of your last two draft picks immensely.

Guys I am ok with at #6:

Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Brian Orakpo, DE/OLB, Texas (has to be the leader in the clubhouse with Lewis' Boulware comment)

Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC

Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest

Considering that we are sitting at #6 and it is a mortal lock that someone in the top 5 will likely take a QB (Stafford or Sanchez) and it is very likely that Seattle will take Crabtree (even after his stress fracture) we will likely have our pick of one of these guys and I wouldn't have a problem with any of them. I still remain committed to the fact that when everything is said and done Maualuga best fits what Lewis wants to do on defense and given that he has such great chemistry with Rivers I really think that thats the way the draft will fall out.

Andre Smith has gone into the "don't touch with a ten foot pole" pile BTW he is a selfish player (as evidenced by his interaction with an agent that cost his team a bowl win) and now you add dumber than a box of rocks along with that. Listen, if you can't trust a guy to show up for the job interview you can't hire him because you won't be able to trust him with anything else. I wouldn't want him in the second round and I would have to think long and hard before pulling the trigger in the third which is a moot point because someone will take a flier on him before that.

Good Post.

Sadly, I believe that Andre Smith will still be a Top 15 pick. He is still one of the most talented players in the draft and somebody will gamble that they can coach him up and get the most out of him.

I just don't want it to be the Bengals, but I think they've taken him off the board.

The key to the draft will be what Seattle does in FA. If they sign a big WR FA, then they might allow them to go OT in the 1st and Crabtree drops to the Bengals. If they take Crabtree, then Monroe or Jason Smith (depending on what OT the Rams take) will drop to the Bengals. I think Orakpo might even go to Cleveland if Curry isn't there. Cleveland won't draft an OT, WR or QB. We need to hope Jenkins shows good at the Combine, so Cleveland can consider him and give us more options at #6.

My Top 3 guys as of now:

Jason Smith

B.J. Raji-great team player

Rey Maulaluga- Marvin's guy

I like the first 2 a lot and I'm starting to like the pash rushers, namely Orakpo and Maybin. Maybin is going to be one of the best in the league in a year or two. He reminds me of a smaller Shawne Merriman, with his explosiveness.

As far as Orakpo, I can almost see the "Orange and Rak Attack" T-shirts. He's impressive, in a Greg Lloyd/Joey Porter kinda way. We haven't had a defensive player like that since Takeo and it sounded like Marvin was about to bust when he was talking about how Pollack was supposed to be the "defense's Carson Palmer" and his Peter Boulware. He's been looking for a pass rusher since he got here.

Yeah I like Orakpo a lot, and he would be the strongest among all Olb. in this years draft. I think if he is there you pull the trigger on him. He is fast 4.63 in the 40, and is an amazing athlete. If they don't take this position in the first I want Barwin in the second who also looked good at the combine.
