PhunkE1
Okay, so even with last Sunday's victory I think everyone would agree we will have a top 5 pick in next years draft. With TJ more than likely gone, and Caldwell and Simpson showing absolutely nothing, I think it's become obvious that if he's there Michael Crabtree will be our pick. I'm not saying that I agree with this, in fact I totally disagree. I think O-line should be our #1 priority, with the D-line a close 2nd, but the freakish ability of this kid will be too much for Mikey boy to pass on.Thoughts? Then O-LIIIINE!!Screw whats his name, he is inconsistent and injury prone. Laurinitis is a savage freak. If we don't take Oher with our pick we should take him or Moreno. WE WILL NOT TAKE a WR! We took two last year, why would we do that? I am under the assumption that we are going to Franchise TJ anyways, there is no way we let one of the best WR's in the league leave for nothing, especially since we were horrible at the trade deadline and we could have gotten something out of him. UF_Gators_15
I disagree with everyone here, I would be ecstatic if we got Michael Crabtree! This kid is a stud, period. If any of you watch our game vs. the Texans then you saw what Andre Johnson did to us...Crabtree is his clone. I'm not saying that if we went somewhere else like O-Line(which we desperately need the next great young LT, but I think Center is our biggest need on the O-Line. P.S. move Andrew "Slugga" Whitworth to RT and draft Herman Johnson out of LSU for LG) I know our D-Line has been bad in terms of sacks and pressures but I like how they've been playing since Pat Sims has begun terrorizing opposing OLineman, I would welcome more depth but I think there are bigger fish to fry. I would love Crabtree, or Brandon Spikes, or Rey Rey Maualuga, or James Laurinaitis, or although I love Chinny and think Marvin White has been solid I would love to have a specimen at safety in Taylor Mays outta USC, the kid is 6'3 235lbs and runs a 4.35, big hitter! ArmyBengal
I love all the "it's obvious we will pick _______" threads and thoughts. Fact of the matter is we have many holes and the Bengals have attempted to fill those with past drafts and free agency. Think what you will of the outcome of those, but the attempt has been there. I think the chances of us taking Crabtree fall somewhere between, I hope is doesn't happen and it shouldn't happen. That being said, we will probably draft him or Beanie Wells. It's not to say they wouldn't be good picks, but rather there are greater needs to fill. If we end up in the top 5 and can't find a trading partner to move down in order to pick up more picks, we should take the most dominant OT on the board at the time of our pick. Should be either Smith or Oher with other teams also needing QB's (Detroit, Kansas City)... It's the only pick I would be really comfortable taking that high and paying that much... BengalPappaw
I would not be disappointed with Michael Crabtree -- not my first choice , but better than several others.BUT, I think I've seen the most obvious Mikee boy's choice. Great athlete. Highly rated by Mel Kiper. Moves great. Physical freak. 6-7 260# DE. Looks like Tarzan -- plays like Jane. Reminds me of "Big Daddy" i.e. the best looking athlete standing by the pile and watching the action -- his name-- Michael JOHNSON from Georgia Tech. I have watched him in several games I was hoping that he would finally have the "light go on". In each game he will make one GREAT play -- BUT he doesn't consistently put pressure on the QB. I wish that Johnson had Brian Orakpo's desire or Orakpo had Johnson athletic ability. My fear is that the Bengals will draft Johnson and he will break our hearts one more time because he just will NOT be the spectacular DE that we need.My draft hopes are: Oher OT (or Orakpo DE) in Round 1; Jonathon Luigs, C ( or Alex Mack C, if he slips that far) in 2nd Round; and Ron Brace, DT in Round 3I really like Ron Brace, Boston College and would love to see him in the rotation with Peko and Sims. P.S. Hint: btw it was b/c our WR play with them not having practice and the timing was horrible with Carson so maybe its not so much the O-Line fault, maybe the ball should've already been outta Carson's hand but he had to hold it b/c the receivers weren't where they were supposed to be. Is that a possibility? And I was just pointing out how what specimen's these players were and that I wouldn't be mad with whoever we went with since we have so many holes, and the safety position was just mentioned b/c Taylor Mays is a beast and it would b nice to have a gamechanger back there. Stumbling back on topic, this Crabtree - he plays for Texas Tech right? Never seen him play, College football is near impossible to watch over here unless I stump up another $20 a month. DesperateDerelict
To add my two cents:1) Michael Crabtree is a GREAT college player, but unless he consistently runs a 4.4, (which he won't - nowhere close) I think he'll turn into another Mike Williams - easily covered by NFL CBs. Gimme Harvin, Maclin, or Bey - assuming Simpson & Caldwell are both busts.2) I would love to see Oher in stripes, but we have SO MANY dire needs, trading down (as often as possible) would be my preference. Eugene Monroe (UVa), Andre Smith (Alabama), and Ciron Black (LSU) are all 1st round LTs. 3) Alex Mack is the best looking center prospect since Jeff Faine , and won't make it out of the 1st round. There are 3 SEC centers (Luigs, McNeil, and Caldwell) that will be there top of the 3rd.4) Duke Robinson (G-Oklahoma) will probably end up being the best NFL Lineman in this draft (IMHO).5) There isn't a huge need for RB's among NFL teams right now - I see alot of talent slipping into the middle rounds (Ringer, Davis, Scott, Spiller, & the real McCoy). 6) Marvin is still looking for his "Ray Lewis" here, and probably is leaning towards Rey Maualuga or James Laurinaitis in the 1st, or Ellerbe (GA), Spikes (UF), Holtzclaw (E.Mich), Micah Johnson (UK), or Beckwith (LSU) in the 2nd or 3rd.7) The most dominant defensive player in college today has to be Terrence Cody (DT, Alabama). He has been a man among boys, and is NFL ready now. If anyone wants to "quick fix" the Bengal's D, he's the man - and my pick (top of the 2nd??).However, all of this is moot. Mikey needs to sell SLA's now - so he will choose Beanie Wells, thinking this will both improve his team and please his fan base.Wrong again, Mike! Mark it down, Crabtree will run a 4.4 at the combine. He is uncoverable. Did anyone see the Texas Tech vs. Texas game on ESPN?2. I would love Michael Oher or Eugene Monroe at LT for us but while Andre Smith has the potential to be the best outta all of them with his size and skill, he has problems maintaining his weight and I would draft him without thinking if he fell to the second round but I'm not drafting a possible bust in the first round. I will pass on Ciron Black, I've seen my Gators wreak havoc on LSU...and he's nothing special.3. I would love to get Alex Mack, hell I'll take Luigs too, but lets face it boyz for some reason our retarded coaches love Gay-chick.4. I must admit I don't know much about Duke Robinson, but I imagine he's a 6'3 335lbs road grader, right or no? If you could tell me some stuff that make you think he will be the best lineman in the draft.5. I agree with you that tons of talent at RB will be available on the second day of the draft, I say we sign Cedric and draft CJ Spiller, he's a beastly speed demon, with great hands and kick return ability and would make a great 1 2 punch.6. I may be biased but I want Brandon Spikes as our MLB, Dhani is solid and want him around.7. Cody has weight problems as well but he has been the most dominant DT in a while, if we could get him in the 3rd or 4th round I would scoop him in a second. Just wanted to pass along a little local scuttlebutt about Mays. On more than one occasion I've heard local announcers, players, and USC coaches literally gush about the way Mays is put together. In fact, Mays is often called the most physically impressive athlete to ever play at USC.
